there is no bug with Quick Step recents on 20200617 build. It is working for me and it is switchable to AOSP style in crDroid settings
Well, then there might be something wrong with my device.
I am trying to pinpoint what though. The ROM was installed using TWRP 3.2.1-8 Nfound, Universal Bootstack v2, gapps stock from yesterday. Phone has been (afaik) completely wiped. I have one concern though.
Every ROM guide prompts to wipe cache, system, vendor & data to ensure no shenanigans.
I've never seen a vendor option in TWRP's menu, but since I used OKI's tool to split a 512MB vendor partition at the end of the "SYSTEM" partition, I always thought that wiping the system partition also wipes the vendor. Is this true or have I been
But seeing as the phone became more and more unstable the more flashes I've done, I can't help but wonder if there's something that remains unwiped and is getting dirty flashed over causing some issues.
Today for example, besides the "Recents" issue I also get an unending "Camera has stopped" pop up, although the app works if I open it. I get the notification even after a reboot and it's just popping up constantly.

Any ideas of what could cause this?
I'm thinking either pure bad luck or some corrupted zips on the SD card. I'll download fresh copies see how that goes, but in the meantime I'd appreciate some guidance from someone who maybe encountered the same issues.

Just use this TWRP_3.2.1-8_axon7-TREBLE, wipe system, vendor, data, cache/dalvik and start clean and fresh ;)

Note: also try to put vendor partition in data, take 800mb. I've been using it all the time. When tried on system 512mb I encountered some bootloops and booting into fastboot, and forced to resize, so never going to use that as a starter anymore...just saying...

Ah I see, so I was actually using the wrong recovery and not wiping the vendor at all, right? So that's what may have caused my issues.
I'll try right away, thanks for the prompt answer.

LATER EDIT: I've tried with the treble recovery, same symptoms after restart.
One pecuiliar note. Pixel Launcher appears as an update in store but when attempting to do so, I receive an error.

I'll now try to reposition the vendor partition as you advised, maybe it solves something.
I'm also starting to think gapps might do something?

LATER LATER EDIT: I've managed to find the culprit, or at least the solution.
I used Titanium backup and deleted Pixelbridge and after a reboot, Pixel launcher came back and along with it the quickstep recents style. Gee this was a rollercoaster. Also, the camera no longer stops so hooray here as well? Although it's to early to celebrate.
But what a weird clash this was...

I have two little annoyances I would like to fix, maybe somebody else has encountered these?
Almost every time I leave the phone on charge overnight, it's frozen in the morning, red charging light stays on even when it's unplugged. I have to hard-reset.

Other one is, often, launching some from a notification (happened w/google photos this morning) launches a black screen. I can task-switch and it shows the window title but inside is all black. If I then go and launch google photos from the app drawer, it still comes up blank black. I have to kill the app then launch again.
Any suggestions?

I have the second issue and its a serious problem for me when I want to quickly reply to something or view a news article, etc. What could be done to resolve it?

I have not tested this yet but I was thinking that maybe messing around with crdroid theme settings might be related. I'm gonna see about disabling as much of that as possible.

tried a few times t install crdroid but no success

Hello all,
I have tried to install crdroid on my old Axon 7 with no success. After following the steps and trying to restart it will not turn back on.
Would anyone be able to write specifics about steps to successfully install this rom?
Thank you in advance.

It took me a lot of trial and error to unbrick the the Axon 7 because TWRP was hanging when it would load, hold all three buttons until it powers up...just keep trying as it can be very frustrating.

Thanks for the response. I was able to get back to oreo stock (Nougat edl) then install oreo stock from sd card . I would like to try this rom but I don't seem to make it work.
Thanks

Oh well that is your problem as ZTE's stock Oreo rom is a buggy mess and it's missing components that causes issues with flashing custom roms from what I have read and it corrupted my bootloader. Downgrade to ZTE's stock android 7 then try going custom rom. The Axon7 Toolkit can help you with that if you run into issues, it uses the XiaoMi recovery tool to achieve this.

Install twrp-3.3.1-0-ailsa_ii.img as your TWRP version using the Axon7 Toolkit, in the Axon7 Toolkit find where the TWRP .img file is (its an older version) and replace it with twrp-3.3.1-0-ailsa_ii.img (you will have to rename this .img file to the old version file name since the tool is hard-coded to the older TWRP file name. (If I did not do this step the old TWRP it installs bricked my phone as it would hang at start up.)

Once you boot into TWRP and run format to wipe the encrypted file system else you will be prompted for a password you do not have. Then go back and wipe each partition.
Next install in order:

1) vendor_creation_tool.zip (this will reboot the phone and perform its tasks then you can get back into normal TWRP for the next steps)
2) A2017U_OreoModem.zip
3) A2017x_LineageOS15.1_UniversalBootstack_v2_by_DrakenFX.zip < this will downgrade TWRP but don't worry about it you can boot back into TWRP later to re-install twrp-3.3.1-0-ailsa_ii.img)
4) crDroidAndroid-9.0-20200617-axon7-v5.12.zip
5) Magisk-v20.4.zip (optional)
6) open_gapps-arm64-9.0-stock-20200621.zip

Nope, it didnt work. after 5 tries the phone keeps telling me the device is corrupted. And it keeps restarting
Took me well over 30 tries, custom roming the axon 7 is like no other device. It is a find skill you need to keep re-trying until it works...I only pulled it off after I got my new phone and was willing to take bigger risks on it.

Never buy a ZTE phone again :)

First of all, thank you @raystef66 for this ROM.

I have had several tries (and lost hours) to finally installing the latest version of this ROM. Mostly there was the same problem as for some other guys "Error 7".
For me I was going the steps as described from @DonCatoli ... (for me it was for the A2017G)

0) Install TWRP 3.4.0-0 using fastboot (use 'the internet' on how to use fastboot)
1) Wipe cache, system, data, dalvik
2) vendor_creation_tool.zip, install in TWRP to get the vendor
3) ZTE_A2017GV1.3.0B04_BootStack_by_raystef66.zip, install in TWRP for the bootstack + modem!
4) crDroidAndroid-9.0, install the ROM in TWRP
5) OpenGapps, download your preference one and install in TWRP
6) Magisk v19.3, install in TWRP
7) Wipe dalvik & ART cache
8) Reboot and Setup your Phone

Hope this will help someone else to save some time :p

Hello, Smart Charging feature is broken on this release for me, it worked before on May SP. Not a big problem but just reporting. I don't use ZTE Axon 7 anymore, I just wanted to help.

Random MAC address on wifi on/off

Hi all,

I installed this yesterday and the MAC address changes every time I re-enable Wifi (Preview of a v10 feature?)...

I however didn't find any option to disable the MAC randomizer for eg my home network.

Any help would be really appreciated, re-configuring my router 3x a day isn't fun... :)

Thanks all!

Working fine on latest 06.17 build - checked on clean flash.

Checked myself on a clean 6.17 build and MAC stays fixed after reboot or by enable/disabling it.
