No no! Zenfone 5 is ze620kl, 5z is zs620kl. Completely different devices.

You need to flash persist.img from fastboot. Use this in fastboot mode in active slot:

fastboot flash persist persist.img

Was able to find the raw ROM for 5z from other thread and used the persist.img from there. FP issue is now resolved.

Glad you're able to solve the fp issue.
Flash the kernel in the same slot as rom slot using twrp. Note that you'll lose your root after flashing kernel, so you'll have to flash magisk/superSU again to regain root.

Did you dirty flash or clean flash the latest update? Because hotspot works fine for me.
