Or you could add that app to the ROM?
Hey, very good idea! I'll try and see if it works out when the June security patch is merged

Edit:
Could someone who has used this camera let me know.... Is this it?
https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.simplemobiletools.camera/

Edit II:
And also, assuming it works out with adding the other camera app. Do you guys want me to keep snap cam included in the ROM or no?

Yes, it's the right one. :good:

I think the simple cam is only able to take 4:3 Photos. The snap cam has more settings. But I don't know if it makes a difference with this hardware.

Thank you. Yeah I'll probably just keep snap cam in after thinking about it. Doesn't really hurt anything as I see it. Unless enough ppl are opposed for some reason.

This is really a great work spookcity138. :good: Thanks for all your efforts regarding this awesome LineageOS 16.0 build! :)

The only thing which I am missing is the broken NFC function. Can someone confirm that the S5 mini uses the Samsung S3FWRN5 NFC chip? According to my docs it should use this NFC controller with NFC ROM version "sec_s3fwrn5_firmware V1.1.9".

For comparison, the Galaxy Note 4 phone models uses that same Samsung NFC solution but their chip contains a newer NFC ROM "sec_s3fwrn5_firmware V1.2.4". Interestingly, the LineageOS 16.0 builds for the Note 4 are supporting the NFC function. (Source: https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/development/exynos-lineageos-15-1-beta-t3937956)

So the cause of the broken NFC function in that LineageOS 16.0 build here may be due to the different S3FWRN5 NFC chip ROM version or the Android Kernel.

Thanks to the work by @mongo0 NFC will be built and enabled on the next release. I think it works OK, but have not tested. It is probably the best it will ever work in any case.

Well, seems to work just fine for others. Also, not much I can do with the little info you provided, sorry.
Provide a log or something if you expect me to even attempt to look into this.

yes this is the the chip (S3FWRN5).
Maybe you can provide a link for firmware v. 1.2.4 ? although the note 4 has a different chipset.

There is also the file 'sec_s3fwrn5_rfreg.bin' which is probably needed but if I set the correct path, nfc stopped working.

Hi mongo0, at first, many thanks also to you for your GREAT efforts regarding this really nice LineageOS 16 build. :good:

NFC firmware update files are unfortunately hard to find. Usually these are not shipped separately. These are near always part of a regular stock ROM update. Our Samsung S5 Mini G800F/M/Y strangely never ever get any newer NFC firmware version.

The other S5 Mini models (with different SoC), like the G800A, get with Lollipop 5.1.1 also a newer NFC firmware V1.2.4 (original firmware was V1.1.9). However, because the G800A is so rare (in Europe and elsewhere other except the US), I was not able to find a stock ROM.

But I was able to locate some stock ROM images for the Samsung Galaxy E7. They were originally at NFC firmware V1.2.3 but get later version V1.2.4. https://www.theandroidsoul.com/galaxy-e7-stock-firmware/amp/#jump-model-no-sm-e700f

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha seem the better NFC source for our phone. It has the S3FWRN5 NFC chip with firmware V1.1.14. So this means that the corresponding bin file belongs to the V.1.1.x branch. That one may be more compliant to ours S3FWRN5 firmware V1.1.9 than the mentioned file of the Samsung Galaxy E7.

A LineageOS build with working NFC is avaiable here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...icial-t3530994

So this is what I can say. Maybe it is possible to get LineageOS 16 to work also with an older NFC firmware. I would look at other S3FWRN5 NFC based LineageOS 16 phone builds and check how they get it worked. ;)

thanks, I've been trying to contribute something to this projeect :)

I also had the same idea, but afaik this chip was not widely used (s4 mini?) and all these devices never made it to lineage 16....

@mongo0
It seems that the sec_s3fwrn5_rfreg.bin file is NOT universal applicable on every S3FWRN5 chip firmware version. After intensive googling, I would try to get the sec_s3fwrn5_rfreg.bin of the SM-G850F (Samsung Galaxy Alpha). It has the S3FWRN5 NFC chip with firmware V1.1.14. So this means that the corresponding bin file belongs to the V.1.1.x branch. And that may be more compliant to ours S3FWRN5 firmware V1.1.9 than the above mentioned bin file of the Samsung Galaxy E7. ;)

An older LineageOS build with working NFC is avaiable here:

thanks for doing the research.!!My googling turned up a 'sec_s3fwrn5s_rfreg_for_old_hw.bin' as well. However it didn't work any better...
anyhow, I already made a patch which should fix things for nfc.

Is there any chance to fix the camera issue in a few releases ?
This and the missing encryption a the main reasons why I'm still on LOS 14.
Anyway, the rest is working really good as far a I could test, thanks a lot for your hard work for such an old device .. :):):)
You can make a "dirty" flash, if you still on LOS 14 with enabled encryption. Only the encryption process not works, but if it is already encrypted, it works.

Encryption works, when its already encrypted. I do it in LineageOS 14, after i upgraded to 15 and 16. Its still work. Only the encryption "process" is not working, when you try to encrypt. If encryption is important, clean the phone, install LineageOS 14, encrypt it, after sucessfull encryption upgrade to 15 and 16 without erase the data partition.

Thanks, good advice :)

Another thing: Can anybody confirm that in spookcity's version from 11th june the video recording is working also in '3rd party' apps, I mean not only in the newly integrated simple camera ?

Thanks in advance for any feedback ..
