I got no problem with GPS and sideload update.

Yeah that's weird, I just did another clean flash and we will see what happens.

But maybe it is time for a new phone, which is really unfortunate since I really love this phone and also since I will have to start scraping money together again.

My SIM is using stable 4G service. After installing LineageOS, I also configured to choose 4G priority. When I install another ROM, 4G works fine again; but I reinstalled LineageOS, it can only use 3G (even though I have configured to select 4G).

Hi! Thanks for the 18.1 ROM. I tried the latest version (20210819) on a new A5 with a newly installed battery and I encountered a battery drain.

What I tested:
- clean install, no additional apps installed
- no SIM card
- AOD deactivated

For comparison I flashed stock ROM and I had 27% drain over 40 hours (white picture). On LOS the battery never lasts longer than 35-40 hours without any usage (black picture). ADB root and TOP reported no system load -> seems like a hardware drain. The app usage tool reported that Bluetooth uses a lot of battery, so I disabled it but it changed nothing.

What can I provide for debugging? Does this happen to other people as well? Is this maybe happening only without SIM card inserted? I have no spare card to test.

Is it me or %50 brightness on stock rom a lot brighter than %50 on LOS.

Also why this doesn't have Blue Light filter? It's the only thing I'd love to have right now. I used to set it on the stock rom so it actives automatically after 19:00

Yeah I noticed the same brightness isn't linear on lineage. Live display settings is blue light filter.

My friend who is using the latest LOS has timeable blue light filter under display settings.

Now, yes he has a different phone, I am new to this rom stuff so I don't know if different phones' LOS roms have the same feature or not. I guess they can most likely differ in features.

Just asking because I really like that feature and LiveDisplay is not cutting it. I even kind of dislike LiveDisplay.

You can set time frames when live display activates and you can choose hue and how much percentage to remove the blue light filter.

As it turns out the loud speaker on my a5 was shot, so I replaced it and the distortion is gone, apparently the overall volume is just not very loud. With headphones in, the volume is somewhat comparable to the s8.

No. Not related to the rom. My A7 is still locked and stock and I've seen this quite bad recently. You can't have 100% always perfect something that has many factors to it.

After a clean flash - again and recalibrating the GPS with the figure 8 motion as directed by google maps it seems to be working ok now.

Youtube is still stuttering but no idea why this is the case.

    Good job but I have this issue.
    Installing "lineage-18.1-20220602-nightly-a5y17lte-signed.zip" shows this fingerprint:
    "Target: samsung/a7y17ltesk..."
    and after the installation it is so in build.prop.
    It should be "a5y17ltexx" and I think that it could be relationed with magisk not working.

    Hi,
    FE is kind of a joke I made. It means Fan Edition and what makes it special is that is has DotOS quick settings panel and a custom bootanimation.
    A5 being A7 in settings has no consequences whatsoever as the kernel gets patched correctly anyway.

    In practice, the end user does not notice the problems, so also not whether his data is possibly insecure... How is data protection guaranteed?

    Both ROMs LOS18-Official and LOS19-Preview are since many months together in one thread, an overview is very difficult or even impossible, since in the posts often the reference is missing.
    Wouldn't a separation be recommendable? The situation would be much more transparent and everyone would know the risks of using LOS19-Preview...

    How to install
    1. Make sure you had Samsung's Oreo firmware bootloader and modem before installing this.
    2. Make sure you are using the latest official TWRP version.
    3. Download the lineage build and optionally google apps.
    4. In TWRP format data (if you still have stock rom encryption).
    5. In TWRP wipe data and cache.
    6. Flash LineageOS.
    7. Optional: Flash Google apps (rightafter).
    8. Reboot.

    LineageOS updater will handle updates automatically (OTA).
    If you're flashing manually, it's okay to dirty flash.

    Like each year so far, it's time for Lineage 19 preview builds to be released, based on Android 12L.

    Firstly, bear in mind that Lineage 19 is known to be in an early state as a rom at this point and issues aren't to be unexpected. I've however managed to get most of the standard lineage features working (kudos to lineage team). And device-wise, although there is still a lot of work that needs to be done under the hood, all of the phone functions should be working as before.

    Important! If you are using TWRP you need to be on version 3.6.0 or higher to flash this. Older versions do not work and will splash loop.

    Help my sim doesn't work
    Please read the installation instructions more carefully. Oreo firmware bootloader and modem is a must.
    You can find the collection along with the guide in THIS xda thread.

    I'm sometimes having crackling sound when listening to music
    Turn off 'ok google now' functionality in google app settings. If you have troubles finding it you can as well go to settings>apps, find app called 'google' and disable microphone permission.

    Does this rom support VoLTE?
    No. And it likely won't in the near future. Samsung's exynos VoLTE implementation is proprietary and non-standard. It is not possible on AOSP based roms for the time being.

    My camera flash doesn't work
    This is an issue with the camera app. Just tap to focus anywhere and it will start working.

    My device fails to encrypt
    1. You were likely using older TWRP, update to the latest version
    2. Backup your data somewhere (external sd, pc...)
    3. In TWRP Advanced -> Format data.

    My hardware keys light up whenever I touch the screen
    Navigate to Settings->System->Buttons->Backlight and tick 'Illuminate buttons only when pressed'. You might want to reduce time on the scaler to 1 second, too.

    How to switch to full screen gestures
    1. Navigate to Settings->System->Buttons->Backlight and tick 'Enable on-screen nav bar'.
    2. Navigate to Settings->System->Gestures->System navigation and tick 'Gesture navigation'.

    This one is huge. The changelog list is big and I've probably fixed more bugs in the previous 7 days than I did in the past 6 months.
    Lineage 17.1 for this device is getting better and a lot of bugs are squashed now. We can now declare this a beta!

    All the changes for this build are now properly sorted and merged-in. You can easily find everything at github.com/LineageOS, build the rom yourselves and contribute with new code, if you are able to.

    Also I've just updated my sources so you can fully build the rom again.

    I've tested some roms like PixelExperience today on my device. It's not bad with the added 'google' feel to it. Later I might test RR and others.
    All that I'm asking from both developers and users is please be clear that these roms are based on LineageOS. Meaning that most of the hard work that actually got them to work was done here, on LineageOS. And unfortunately most of the issues they are facing as well :p Work was done by RaymanFX, forkbomb, and in the latest days by me. Not respecting this makes me less motivated to keep working on the device.
