Where are you from? On what rom did you have good signal? Did you wipe all as said?

Thanks, I'll have to look into the splash not showing thing.

For the swype error, I think I have fixed the 3 zips, so download it again please. Same link.
I am from brazil and using jboogie Orange Rom I have a good signal reception. Im gonna download the swype keyboard :)

Could u try flashing freq_F_PL_342_131-900-2100-signed.zip from http://modmymobile.com/forums/639-m...ma-850-900-1700-1900-2100mhz.html#post4059261.

On my phone i cant connect to phone operator (no signal) and the boot animation does not show up.

EDIT: Erro to install Swype-OEM-Defy_JORLA_U3_6.14.5-signed.zip. Update script erro.
Same advice, look at http://modmymobile.com/forums/639-m...ma-850-900-1700-1900-2100mhz.html#post4059261.

Until I fix that, To install manually my boot logo, please run:

Code:
adb shell
su
flash_image logo /system/media/logo.img
reboot

First of all, check in which case you are:
Case 1:
If you come from a US T-Mobile Defy with the 3.6.90 update
If you have already flashed a non-downgrabable sbf (2.51 or 3.4.2).
Case 2: If you are not in case 1.
Ok I am so stupid. :( Received my Defy today and in all enthousiasm I jumped into flashing a custom rom. But despite reading for days I still manage to brick my phone. What happened is that I swapped case 1 and 2 which means while heaving a 2.51 rom out-of-the-box I flashed the Chinese 2.2 rom. Now the phone won't even turn on any more. Also when I try to charge it the screen stays black and nothing happens. Guess this is a true brick then... :(

hey, i was in the total same situation, (i AM) if you find anything out, please let me know.

also created a thread here:

maybe at least some of the tipps work for you.

i already requested a repair ticket from my reseller and prepared the phone yesterday. im worried to say, nothing helped recognize the phone in rsd lite again.

all the best && and in german people say,
"at least: share bad-luck is better than bad luck alone"
sry mate. :=/

Thanks! I'm downloading the official 2.51 rom now since indeed rsdlite still detects the phone. Hopefully it works.

Does someone however have a fast mirror? Here it still takes 3 hours from now and I fear the battery will be dead by then...

Ok I think I am extremely lucky because I managed to revive the phone with the official 2.51 rom. The screen remained black but rsdlite still detected the phone and right in the beginning of the flash process first the led switched on and a few seconds later the screen came on to. This already seemed promising and when it finally booted I actually cheered. :p

Funny thing is, first it didn't have motoblur and now it does. Bought it in Thailand and must be the same official blurless rom that someone else reported here (don't remember who). Unfortunately I cannot make a nand backup of it anymore...

Now on to acquiring root but this time with a little bit more patience. :D

Flash boot&devtree (fixes cam flash) ** (case 2 ONLY, I think)
Had to do this anyway to get out of the boot loop. Now it's booting just fine so at least with a 2.51 rom you also have to flash the boot_devtree.sbf.

Ok here is something weird. This rom is working great except the phone does not find the gsm network. When I search manually it only finds 2 out of 3 available networks and my network is the one he doesn't find. Could this be a radio problem? It has nothing to do with UMTS/3G because it's all GSM. UMTS is unavailable where I live. Checked with another phone and that one finds all 3.

Ok I found out that my home network AIS broadcasts on 900 MHz while the other two use 1800 MHz. So the Defy seems unable to find GSM 900 networks. Any idea what is going on here?

Thanks, instructions updated to take that into account.

I would try to flash a 3g fix (although your problem isn't really 3g if i understand correctly). The fixes includes gsm files too.

Tried the UK 3G fix (freq_F_UK_342_117-900-2100-signed.zip) but it had no effect. I disabled UMTS but still the same problem. Everytime I do a manual search for networks it finds only the twoo 1800 MHz networks. Cannot find anything even remotely similar to my problem out there. I'll try another sim card tomorrow, one for a 1800 MHz network, and see if that works.

I try one more thing now before I go to bed and that is flashing the Chinese 3G fix as mine actually came from there according to the label.

*edit*

Woohoo that last one actually worked. Sweet! :) After many hours of tweaking and trying I finally have a fully functional phone. Thanks everyone for all the help!

*edit 2*

Well again something weird has happened. After applaying the black bar patch a lot of processes in Android give an error. Have to start all over I'm afraid. But at least it's not a brick. :p
