Gonna give this a try this weekend! Curious if anyone has successfully backed-up and restored apps/data when upgrading? I'm on stang5litre right now, so I definitely will be resetting the phone as part of the install. (I think Odin'ing back to stock will take care of that.)

Thinking I ought to be able to 1) flash eng bootloader, install TiBu, backup stuff; 2) follow OP to upgrade to oreo, except don't flash the stock bootloader at the end; 3) install TiBu, restore stuff; 4) flash stock bootloader

Any reason that wouldn't work? Or has anyone come up with a better way to backup/restore?
Just backup to samsung or google first and you'll be fine. It worked for me.

I am just being too lazy but actually I was going to do something very similar to what you did! This is awesome! Let me know if you need any help.

Well not lazy. I've been completely rebuilding my 17R3 and still got to put new fans in.

Remove it through Safestrap using uninstaller.

Priorities man you got them i have a mere elitebook 8770w but i basically use it for android related purposes almost exclusively unironically running windows on legacy boot whilst having linux on a separate hard drive running uefi boot haha
I'd love help enabling outdoor mode and download booster in secsettings so i can run it native. General brainstorming what other jar mods can be done and has dex been achieved on s7 yet? Oh and if can you can help unlocking the bootloader that'd be great lol
In all seriousness, the only reason I was able to achieve secure flag disable was because of smalipatcher I still need to learn how to get into deodexed files and edit things myself

Well I did pull the trigger yesterday, and everything is working great. Feels like a new phone! I did take the advice to just backup app data via Google. That got *most* of the apps (and fortunately all of the ones I cared about). Some apps and app data did not move over, and had to be set up again. But overall it wasn't too bad. Now we'll see how the battery life is. But the performance is great. And some of the weird behavior I had on my previous rom is gone. So loving it so far! :D

Haha yep you're right about thst...
I think I want to tinker with forcing bootloader to make this easier and also make a good Gear Pay cloak patch...
But World Cup and I got the fans now to do.
Then got to put shocks and replace tie rods on my car haha. My screen is warm and it starts to really bother my thumb after a while so I am sending it to Samsung for a week.

I only learned how to root earlier this year because i got an s8 so i was messing with the s7.. never rooted s8 but got interested in the s7 again after s8 got oreo update OTA which caused bootloop (disabled updates with adhell so it hasn't updated at all since original OTA but my sdk license expires on the 12th of this month) had to factory reset... my s7 got boring so i traded my s8 to my wife for her s6 (g920i) and between everything I learned a lot but I've only had the time do do all this because of what I do for work (security) I sit for 12 hours a day 7 days a week, week on week off. I'm like 50 feet away from the cell phone tower and since i have unlimited data I download most of my files via mobile hotspot to my laptop whilst at work including both CRF1 files from OP just now. I'm back to the S7 now because of oreo and only keeping up with it because of safestrap and samsung pay(which i only started using since safestrap) otherwise I'd trade it for a G930F (local carrier used to sell international models until s8) to flash into twrp, infinity and beyond

I have a deodexed A8 rom on the s6 so for practice I was able to add outdoor mode to SecSettings but it didn't work when i tried to flash it in a zip, I had to use root explorer to merge it and i also failed to add advanced power menu(no bootloop or crash after even force replacing the files). However, I don't really care about actually getting those features on the s6 nougat, I want them on my s7 oreo. I deodexed the SecSettings decomplied modded and recompiled the file and remembering that OP told me after looking at my file that my services.jar mod that it uses a dummy file for odex so i figured i could just do the same thing with SecSettings. I just need to know the "rules" of this thing. I made a an empty file called SecSettings.odex and put it into the zip to flash. Didn't work, no bootloop. Then I pushed it into the system in eng boot mode no luck, Tried again this time with first # rm SecSettings.apk and # rm SecSettings.odex Settings crash toast notification, factory reset still settings crash toast. Basically, I want to know what I am doing wrong, do I need to sign the apk, what keys are used for what, zipalign. Dummy odex, what about the vdex file, what do I do about them. Or does the apk have to be re-odexed again?

Of course I have a lot of questions but if I knew at least a few more rules I could figure some things out at least. Don't really need to to the "why it works" (that will come with time after applying it) just that it does. Like grammar in any given language, that's just how it is. One doesn't need to think about using a verb or a noun, one just uses them. One day I will hopefully actually give back to our community instead of just take. i'm transferring most likely by the end of the month and wont have as much time as I do now.
@jrkruse again thank you you just downloaded your new files gunna flash here in a few mins

To upgrade from previous we have to wipe or can we just flash with odin? What are the benefits from the previous oreo version?

It's great to see SafeStrap for the S7 and the ability to quickly root/unroot.

Is it likely the ROM slots feature will be made functional on the S7?
I see ROM slots work on the S8, But is the S7 root similar enough that this feature can be brought to the S7 SafeStrap? Or are there major obstacles on the S7 that are likely to prevent it ever working for this phone? I'm sorry if this sounds like a feature request, but I'm really just evaluating whether to buy the S7 or S8. If somebody is working on it and I purchase an S7, I will be glad to help.

I will post update later today to fix this
I'm having another issue I can't hear WhatsApp caller voice but he can hear mine. tried listening through loudspeaker and bottom speaker no luck.It works fine when I make calls with Samsung's phone app I also tried this with fb messenger app doesn't work either. I think problem is with third party apps. Same goes to my att s7 edge on CRF1. I reverted back to CRE5 on Verizon s7 flat and the issue is no more.... don't know if anyone else have this problem.
