@jrkruse, @gadget! Thanks for the response. I've successfully upgraded to Oreo and believe I have successfully flashed the AP_SM_G930_OREO_ENG_BOOT.tar.

I'm getting lost on the Install Instructions. It's like there are steps missing and I know it jumps from 1. & 2. to 6. but I just figured 3. - 5. were just unnecessary.

Are there updated instructions somewhere? Generally I reference the initial post because that's what gets updated with the current situation/instructions/methods.

Where and how do I do Install Instruction "2. Run xxx_FlashSystem.cmd"?

I've tried booting normally and tried putting phone into Recovery. Had the phone plugged into Windows and then I run or "Run as Administrator" the "xxx_FlashSystem", but nothing happens with the phone. Isn't it supposed to automatically reboot when finished?

Am I suppose to load certain files onto the phone then run xxx_FlashSystem from the phone?

What am I missing here?

Just follow the instructions as they say.

Make sure you have the proper samsung drivers installed. The phone should be at the home screen when yo urun xxx_flashsystem.cmd. It will reboot to recovery where you wipe data.

See my post here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77503705&postcount=279

You can't directly run the cmd file in Windows 10. Right click CMD-HERE.EXE, then Run As Administrator, then type 'xxx_FlashSystem.cmd'

Seems like most people on XDA are still running Windows 7 :)

If you flash one of the google mods make sure to set default dialer in settings/apps to google dialer
If Gboard dont show update the app in playstore or apk mirror then in playstore uninstall the update then it will work

Extreme Aroma based debloater for S8/S7/S9 devices by OrelMadK

This aroma debloater probably one of the best I have seen by @orelta

So i'm curious, at what point do i flash one of these?
Normally you want to debloat BEFORE your first boot, that way the apps don't have a chance to sink into the system.

But Safestrap seems to only be accessible AFTER the first boot up, so this leaves me worried that i'll be getting all sorts of error messages popping up about apps that get removed.

I flashed this and it's working great except for two issues.

First, whenever I disable wifi my SD card is unmounted and the phone reboots.

Secondly, double clicking the home button does not work as a camera shortcut.

Any ideas how to fix these problems? The crashing wifi toggle is especially problematic. Thanks.

Did you try to factory reset. Usually fixes my sd card mount issue. I have to click like 3 times to pull camera up

On the other hand this is an awesome set up so i can't really complain. Any thoughts?

Thanks OP for all the time and effort!!!!

I've been running this ROM, unrooted & unmodded, for nearly 2 months, and once per week I get 30-40% battery drain overnight in Airplane mode. Betterbatterystats shows phone is held awake the entire night when it happens, but doesn't point to any apps as the culprit. I'm running 100% the same apps as I was on stock Verizon ROM.

Anyone experiencing something like this?

EDIT: turns out Stock Oreo ROM has the same issue when put in Airplane Mode overnight. Had to downgrade to Nougat.

This is for All Carriers.
You Do Not Need To Be Rooted To Install This Rom
You Must Be On Stock Verizon Oreo Firmware Before Starting
This Takes Some Patience To Install

What Is Safestrap

Safestrap is a Bootstrap / Recovery for locked bootloader phones. Safestrap is now based on TWRP Recovery (a touch based recovery) and you can perform .zip installs, backups and restores here.

My Verizon S7 is current on Nougat and rooted. I followed steps 1-4 in the Pre-Install Instructions but I got the "Complete(Write) operation failed" error message on Odin. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your help.

I've tried the unrooting process but I keep failing safteynet on 'CTS profile match'. It does disable root as far as I can tell. I rerooted just so I could try a second time and still fail safteynet. The only other things I've done is install the google package and the adblock host file. What should I do?

Well after trying again last night I decided to download everything again and check things out.
The Verizon zip was identical to what I had downloaded (I did check the MD5 and it was correct). but the FF_ADB_G930_CRE5.zip file was missing the entire system folder and all the files in that folder!
I started over and was able to get it booted normally and then I booted into safestrap without any problems.

So if I'm understanding this correctly Safestrap is only temporary, you flash in Odin, do whatever you need to do then flash back and boot normally?
That's still leaps and bounds from what we had before.
Now hopefully someone will get this baby rooted. :)

Thank you for all you do!

Safestrap is installed in the system but the only way to enter safetrap is with a permissive kernel and the only permissive stock kernel made for the s7 was from the Marshmallow Combo firmware. So basically you have to flash the bootloaders and boot.img from the Marshmallow combo firmware to enter safestrap then to exit safestrap you have to flash back the regular bootloaders and boot.img and recovery.img but in doing this it screws up dmverity so we have to do a little trick by getting the recovery to bootloop which erases the dmverity key. All this is accomplished with a special recovery that allows for insecure adb. Which allows me to push the modified cache images required to make the stock recovery bootloop. I discovered this back in the day from from flashing the leaked nougat coming from oreo . Then @me2151 found a little different approach for the note8 when oreo came out and this made me revisit the procedure I used back on Nougat coming from Marshmallow. So drop him a thanks also as I didnt think it would no longer work on S7 and if he wouldnt have discovered his method on the note 8. I probably would not have went back and tried on S7
    4
I reuploaded the ODIN_ADB_G930_CRE5.zip because I realized secure folder was not working. So the best way to fix this with out loosing data is to reflash the AP file from the odin cre5 frimware when done flashing reboot back to download and start the install process again. This time during the process step 14 choose the xx_AddCacheWipeCache.cmd instead of xx_AddCache WipeData.cmd. this will keep your data. I also disabled hotspot provision check
