what's your DPI / font size?
also installed any mods like dual status bar or similar?
smallest width is 392dp, font size is default
no mods, it's a fresh vanilla install, the issue also affects the setup menus

I tried LineageOS 19.1 May 14 build after, it doesn't have this issue

A little note... When switching to another user (Guest or another), after returning to the Owner, the settings for the icon set, icon shape and sim-cards settings (mobile Internet, etc.) are reset.

Hi, I need some urgent help is possible. I installed the recent update and noticed I'd lost root. The Magisk app said Magisk wasn't flashed. So I just went into fastboot to re-flash the magisk img file, rebooted and the phone went straight to CrDroid Recovery. I rebooted the system and it goes straight back to recovery each time. I can't make any progress and as CrDroid doesn't have backups, I don't know what to do.

EDIT: I ended up re-flashing CrDroid, rebooted and then I was then given a message that the data was corrupted and needed to be formatted. I let it do that and then the phone loaded up into the rom with all my data wiped.

So I'm back in, but I've lost everything, which is obviously annoying. From all this I have two questions:

1. What should I have done to avoid this happening? It was my understanding that OTA updating CrDroid wouldn't affect root, as I'm using the CrDroid recovery. If this happens again, what steps should I take?

2. How can I make backups of my phone now that I'm not using TWRP? I don't feel safe not having backups.

Hi
See whether I am doing the right steps for my Installation:

1. Boot up to recovery (TWRP latest version)
2. Under wipe - format dalvik, cache, system and data. Format data
3. Reboot to recovery and Flash Rom (Vanilla or Gapps)
4. Install DFE and Reboot to system
5. Reboot to recovery to install Magisk after the 1st boot.

Question.
1. How to install Magisk properly in order to get root? Appreciate your advice on this.

Thanking you in advance -:) -:)

Hi
Thank you for quick reply on Magisk issue.

Btw, if it possible to boot up from Recovery then to Flash Magisk Canary (or Magisk-v23.0) and reboot to system? Instead of doing the sideload and of course to rename the magisk file based on your advice.

Thank you
Yes, rename the magisk apk file to a zip file and flash in recovery. Use lygisk if you lose root during ota updates.

Anyone? I'm very hesitant to flash further updates without a backup.

Use lygisk beta.. https://github.com/programminghoch10/Lygisk

It's a fork of magisk which survives updates on lineage, crdroid is based on lineage so it will work also.

Thanks, I'll check it out 👍

Do you know if there's any way to make a TWRP style backup? Or should I just reflash TWRP?

The only reason I'm using Crdroid recovery is because people in this thread have been suggesting it, as well as saying that it supports OTA and maintains root with encryption active. I'm trying to get some definitive info which might help other people in the future.

If your encrypted Twrp won't be able to make a back up, stick to crdroid recovery if your encrypted or flash dfe (disable force encryption) if you want to use Twrp. You'll have to flash this everytime after each ota update. You can backup data yourself, and use swift backup or migrate apps available on the play store.

so to avoid problems with decrypted roms and encrypted data in every rom and avoid bootlopp it's best to use crdroid recovery? no need to use DFE in OTA updates?

If you want to have decrypted data and stay in TWRP you must always -manually- flash the updates and always along with DFE. Never use OTA.

If you want to stay encrypted you need to use crDroid Recovery and OTA will work just fine.

However crDroid recovery only works with crDroid ROM. LineageOS ROM have LineageOS recovery and Pixel Experience have PE recovery. All of them can handle OTA updates in their encrypted ROMs.

I have 2 bugs:

1 - In Crdroid Settings->Navigation->actions, the split screen action doesn't work, for instance setting the long press action of the recents button to split screen, then long pressing the recents button does nothing.

2 - the recents menu sometimes scrolls very quickly to the leftmost app, I don't know what causes this
I've discovered that bug number 2 is caused by crDroid home launcher. Switching to Nova launcher resolved the issue.
Edit: nevermind it happened in nova too, but it's more rare

how to update for OTA?
You need to be encrypted, have crDroid recovery and just go to updater and click to download and install the update. Will automatically do the restart to recovery, flash the build and reboot back to system.
You can find here how to clean install the rom.

What are the benefits of encryption? I don't use any kind of security lock on my phone so is it even worth me being encrypted? I'm degoogled and no sensitive data is synced to my phone.

Check here the DFE and Encryption Guide.
If you don't have any kind of security lockscreen not even fingerprint or something then I guess you don't care so if you want go decrypted.

By video calls do you mean ViLTE ? Or Duo, WA etc.?
Video calls via apps like Signal, Whatsapp, Zoom etc. Basically, any time that the phone is in loudspeaker mode, whether via video call or voice call with loudspeaker active.
