Edit: I should probably add that this was originally the T-Mo variant, but I converted it to global. And I hope this isn't an issue since I have an older version of this ROM working.
I have an inquiry about this. What steps did you do exactly when converting? Because I also have the t-mo variant and had converted (as it's a necessary step for all t-mo variants to not have problems with the roms).

Basically, the MSM "rebrand" started me off at Android 9.x, I then OTA updated to 10.3.x, then it OTA updated to I believe it was 11.0.5.x or 11.0.6.x (I did this like two months ago). Then followed the guides to start flashing the ROMS (I used the PE guide because it seemed the most thorough - also following the "copy-partitions" step).

I've had great success since. I'm curious what you did. I wonder if maybe you didn't update far enough and is why the devs having you update the modem manually (though I'm unaware of how to extract it from the .ops file - the .bin files in the custom roms the payload dumper works, but I can't seem to get the payload dumper to extract a .ops file otherwise I would suggest that).

Latest crDroid 8.8 doesn't (at this time of writing) pass SafetyNet CTS due to outdated PixelPropUtils fingerprint.
So, in order to pass CTS for now, simply use below info.

In order to pass SafetyNet CTS (until we get PixelPropUtils proper fingerprint after Pixels get it from Google), you'll need the following:
Install Magisk
Install MagiskHidePropsConf module
Install a Terminal app (using Terminal Emulator here but any other should work also)

Now after all are installed, open terminal app and type following:
Code:
su
props
5
n
type: ro.build.version.security_patch
press enter
value: 2022-07-05
press enter
y

Reboot and CTS should now pass

Is carrier search generally working or am I not the only one for whom it doesn't work?

When I click on manual selection it says "network not found". If this is a known bug, is there any way to override the automatic selection, as it selected a network I cannot use.

Found this in the logs:
08-14 23:55:49.475 D/QtiCarrierConfigHelper(2710): WARNING, no carrier configs on phone Id: 1

This could be a dumb question but have you checked the APN? Maybe it's misconfigured?

Looks like 8.8 broke my modem again, 8.7 was solid and had no crashes. Promptly after flashing 8.8 and GAPPS I got crashes. Trying to flash my modem img to see if it helps. Seems that things still break during this flash, had to remove and install several apps again to get them to work. Google discover images broke, Google Voice and more. Will report back to let you know.

I never configured APN apart from the autoconfig, but in every other country internet works correctly, just that my provider has some roaming issues with the specific carrier in my current country.
Can you check if manual carrier selection works for you?
When I try to disable the "Automatically select network" option under "Settings > Network & internet > SIMS" I get an error saying "Couldn't find networks. Try again".

But I only have access to 1 carrier so I'm not sure if that is why it is throwing that error - it would make sense. So, I'm not sure if I can check what you're asking, sorry.
