Introduction:
Welcome to PhotonAOSP! Photon AOSP is a lightweight, performance/feature packed AOSP based ROM for the Nexus family of devices. The goal of this ROM and Project PhotonAOSP as a whole is to take AOSP and modify it with useful and important features that everyone loves and uses daily. Note that this ROM will never have as many features as BlissPOP, PureNexus, Pac-man ROM, etc. but will only contain necessary features such as ones found in Omnirom, Chroma, etc. PhotonAOSP delivers (and will always continue to do so) the latest AOSP source code with Google's latest security patches.

Instructions for Installation:
  1. Download latest ROM build
  2. Reboot into TWRP
  3. Make backup (optional)
  4. Wipe Data/Cache/System and Factory reset (if coming from another ROM)
  5. Wipe Cache (if updating from a previous build of PhotonAOSP)

So this isn't CM based at all then from what I have read I think. I love CM options but I'm in a poor signal area and the CM kernels or whatever mess with data reception. Thanks

This ROM is completely AOSP based....NOT CM BASED AT ALL...But still contains some great features (many of which are found in CM) like cLock, volume rocker wake, etc. But since it uses the AOSP kernel you should get great reception. Also the ROM supports WiFi calling, Band 12 LTE on t-mobile, and full VoLTE!

Well don't know what it is then but every phone I have had and I've had many doesn't run as well on CM. Again I'm in a poor signal area maybe that has something to do with it. Not that it means that much but even in strong signal area download speeds are less.

Were any of the other devices Nexus devices? If not the degradation in signal was due to non open source ril.

The CM kernel for now is the same one used on AOSP. Later down the line they may go the caf route, which is what they did for the N5. In fact, if you go on the CM download page you can find two Nexus 5 downloads: hammerhead and hammerheadcaf, the first works with AOSP kernel, the second doesn't.

Not really, kernel has almost nothing to do with reception or data
Ya like I said not sure why but has just been my experience. I'm on Verizon to so maybe that's a factor. I can't wait for Fi to get here if it ever does so I can just try GSM to see if it makes any difference.
Do we need to flash vendor?

No. Vendor is already symlinked in rom...Just flash rom and gapps
