By removing un-needed code from ui and launcher
By including unthemed apps to decrease gpu processing
By tweaks for performance and battery saving
By selecting the best kernel for rom
By adding smoother scrolling tweaks and other tweaks in prop.

yes. As long as you have root and custom recovery. Just full wipe. Wipe data. Format system. Cache and dalvik. Then install the rom. First boot will take time.

Unfortunately. You cant. That is a limitation for the time being. In jelly bean it has been replaced with only mtp to browse sd cards.
But if you mean external usb drive then check your otg cable first and it should mount on /storage/usb0

There are large files I need to copy to the internal drive. When I try to copy them they fail half way. If I use the kernel that can not be named, then I can copy them by mounting USB in recovery. But I don't want to use the kernel that can not be named, I want to use hydracore kernel. With hydracore however, the internal drive can not be opened by mounting USB in recovery. The drive shows up on my pc but can not be opened.

For the time being use airdroid app from market to tranfer large files from/to pc.
Try out maxfu 7.6.2 oc kernel. It is best kernel for our rom.

Tried airdroid but it kept telling me that my pc and phone were not on the same network which they absolutely were ... I'll keep trying.

Tried the new kernel and it is very smooth.

seriously guys, thats the best rom ive ever tried...im on hydracore 4.3b and its simply amazing...
gonna wait till the jb version is 100% optimised

No. You will have to give up speed and get a jb leak.
