Is there anyway to use the leanback launcher as an app on this? Cause that would just seal the whole deal with this device hahaha.
sure that you can you can find many my videos that show how you can create a shortcut of Leanback launcher with the app QuickShortcutMaker.

But i think is completely unuseful because every normal app is 10000 times better than the leanback version. Many more options, faster, with no limits and you can use also a mouse, therefore you can use also a browser and many others useful normal apps + the standard google play app with all apps inside.

FIX + Suggestion

To fix the webcam in hangouts, edit the build.prop and change:

ro.camera.number=2
ro.camera.0.devname=/dev/video0
ro.camera.0.facing=back
ro.camera.0.orientation=0
ro.camera.1.devname=/dev/video0
ro.camera.1.facing=front
ro.camera.1.orientation=0

in -------------------->

ro.camera.number=1
ro.camera.0.devname=/dev/video0
ro.camera.0.facing=back
ro.camera.0.orientation=0

Is implied that you must start the device with the camera connected to have the webcam working.

Another useful suggestion to have a very fast firmware is to set in developer options the 3 Animations scale to 0.5 and reboot. ( you need to do this only one time )

I installed this v1.2 rom and have the following issue: on my LG plasma tv it is overscan, so some of the UI it is not visible, like chrome browser setting button on the top right. The tv is quite old, it doesn't have any settings to handle this. The display was correct when it was on the original AndroidTV rom.

Is there anything I could do?

I am able to adjust the overscanning using adb command however the other 2 main apps I use (Plex, itv) now don't play video in full screen :(
Developers must do a lot of hard work to have an app updated for every new version of Android. As developer of DroidMote, i do that as soon is possible so my users can always enjoy all the last functionalities of the last OS.
Unfortunately this is not true for all apps, but fortunately there are many valid alterernative in Google Play and you can also complain with the developer of your app via email or with comments in Google Play.

I was using my Nexus Player on a LG TV in a hotel last weekend and noticed this same issue, but Plex stuff looked OK, I am not sure if any of it was cut off or not. At home I have a Philips TV and it centers perfectly on the screen., strange that some TVs handle that stuff differently.

Many TV, ( all my TV at least ) have a button on the remote or in setting menu to adapt automatically the image to screen or 16:9, 4:3, zoom etc. Is a TV function. In Samsung tv is called "fit to screen" and you can access it via TV remote with the button P.SIZE

@zulu99 - this ROM was the reason I got a Nexus Player! Thanks!

A few hiccups:
- I get a lot of FCs while trying to download. This happens if I'm downloading from Browser or downloading from Google Drive.
- remote microphone does not work. No "OK Google" support from what I've seen.
- Any chance you could add 'reboot' or have a power menu available? When I'm editing build.prop I hate having to unplug the NP and would like it to shut down naturally.
- The battery bar, cast screen, etc - all superfluous, and we probably don't need it.
- I've had some trouble using my USB drive to be added to the space of the NP itself. It keeps being detected as a flash drive again.

Did I install a file with a bad checksum, or are these issues you're aware of?

Also, I'm getting a lot of files in the Play Store that say 'Unsupported Device' as well, so I'm having to sideload. Any workaround (e.g. call the NP another Android device with the same CPU/GPU/RAM)? Do you know if I can install Microsoft Office?

Thanks. Sorry so many issues.

- For download FC, grant read/write permissions to your app. Example Chrome browser request this persmission when you try download the first time. This is Android 6, don't forget app permissions. Go in android settings -> your app -> permissions and grant all to be sure that the app work correctly.

- To make voice search you can use an usb mic, example the mic of your webcam. I can suggest also the droidmote mic button so you can write text with your voice in every app.

- To reboot i use the app Material Power Menu https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.naman14.powermenu Apart this, If you long press the power button (i use droidmote, but is valid for all remote ) you have the power menu to power off the device.

- the battery icon is removed from status bar by me and this is sufficient. The cast button is very useful because if an user want, can cast the entire screen to a chromecast device in another room and control it with droidmote for example.

- If you have problem with usb drives, format it at low level. I use the windows tool diskpart ( list disk, select disc x, clean ) After Android can recognize it if if previously created problems.

- For app not compatible, apart that the nexus player is an x86 device, Is a classic of all devices. No one device have all apps compatible in google play also if the app can work. This are stupid restriction of google play. made by google or from the developer. You can use apkmirror.com or apkpure.com to download every FREE app that you want. apkpure.com is a new service very useful and contain all FREE app and games. But with Google Play app, you can have 80% of all apps free and paid.

p.s.
For a previous question:
Yes Chromecast functionalities work well for all apps. Apps wih DRM and apps without drm.

For new users:

It is understood that to have Netflix in full HD you must install the Android TV version from apkmirror.com and cast from your phone. or use direcly the Android TV version.
( i cast because i hate directional key and the fact the searches are horrible in Android tv version )

Unfortunately Netflix is the only app that add restrictions to the normal app ( video no HD but SD ). Is not question of the firmware but a bad Netflix policy.

To have Chromecast functionalities in full screen i use the xposed framework module App Settings.
With App Settings you can set for every single app many options, like DPI, Full Screen, orientation and more.

With App settings set the Google Cast Receiver in full screen.

I think it is due to the TV is 1080i, because it is fine when I hooked the Nexus Player into a LED display which I am almost sure it is 1080p.

In the end I reset the overscan setting back to default, because with it the video played full screen, even though some of the app margin is hidden. Well I just need to guest where to click.

I can't switch the NP to MTP for file transferring when connected to a PC. Neither the pull-down menu nor the Developer's Options would allow it and it stays at the charging option. Does anyone know why? Thanks.

In android 6 you need to swipe down the status bar and select mtp file transfer in usb settings.
It work for me.
Try to reinstall the drivers of NP on your pc

Thanks for your advice. I did flash the rom on the same PC, which tells me it might not be the drivers. The PC recognized the NP, just that I couldn't switch to MTP from the swipe down menu and made it stick. The select menu would flash and disappear as soon as I selected MTP. Very strange. But I will try again with updated drivers to see if it helps.
