I understand how much hard work you guys are all putting in to develop these little things for everyone else to use. However, I am very new to this and hesitant to ever do any coding like is listed to push these boot.img into the hardware. Is there a flashable .zip file that we could compile so that it would be easier for everyone to use?

What is the difference ? to install a custom recovery you must do the same thing with fastboot,

On Android TV boxes, i think that fastboot is more simple than custom recovery to flash firmwares.

When you need to flash custom mods or SuperSu for the first time TWRP is more useful.

when you install a custom recovery you must type:

fastboot flash recovery your_recovery.img

To install this complete firmaware instead you must type:

fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot -w
fastboot reboot


If you want upgrade only the boot image you must type:

fastboot flash boot boot.img

and reinstall SuperSu with Twrp recovery. ( in Android 6 )

more simple that this there is only the app FlashFire ( you can install everything from inside Android if you have root ) that unfortunally in x86 devices not work, but work well on arm / arm64 devices at least i tested it on Shield TV and Galaxy S6

P.S.
The procedure that i suggest is the same published by Google when you install also a stock firmware on Nexus devices.

I'd like to comment on Netflix. Yes it is a shame that Netflix has such a harsh stance, however as has been said a million times, it is NOT Netflix that imposes the restrictions, it is the content owners who own all the programs that imposes the limits onto Netflix. So it is the entire world that makes this restriction and has nothing at all to do with Netflix. If you upload a TV Show to Youtube or a new Movie I can guarantee that Youtube will remove it. In Netflix's business they have the right to upload 480p content to all devices, but only a few get HD because the content providers allow it on those devices ONLY because those devices such as the TAB S 8.4 has paid for it directly.

What we need is a developer willing to build a custom Netflix app (probably impossible now) that can remove that restriction. Netflix is the #1 most important streaming company to me, and if it didn't exist I wouldn't even be bothering with streaming at all. I must have 1080p Netflix, but I hate using my PC or the idea of buying a much more expensive device such as the SHIELD TV. lol

Edit: Does this ROM have Netflix HD built in, or where does one find it? Or do we just pull it from the stock ROM and sideload it here?

lol its more typing commands than coding.. the coding is already done for you...

in order to use a flashable zip, you still need to unlock the BL and install a custom recovery.. at least thats what i did with mine

Any Solution on Amazon Video App Closing

Yeah, I don't know é hat could be the problem, tested with a 16 and didn't have any problems either. I'll try straight with the USB cable using the ps4 controller and see what happens. Other than that, no problems on my end. Been using the whole day yesterday with kodi. Not sure if it's an app problem, but amazon video keeps force closing when running on the background. It works when I actually use it, so I'm keeping it greenified for now. Thanks once again, rom rocks

It just happensconfused right before it starts to play to actual video. Until I click "Play Video", everything seems fine without problem using this app with this ROM. Is there any possible solution? With Amazon Video working, I think I finally find the best streaming/full android device for me. Please HELP!

Sure that you can have Netflix in HD with this firmware.
Install the Android TV version from apkmirror.com and after you can cast also from your phone or use directly the TV app. You can have it in full screen forever, if you set the Netflix app in immersive mode with the AppSettings xposed module or also in other way.

I know what you write, for this reason i think that sellers of movies and songs are the ruin of IT.
In this way you can't buy your preferred hardware that is also cheaper. You must be only a monkey in the hands of this big companies.

I share this thing because I did not know and was new for me. But i know that many others users already know.
I shared the same post also on Shield TV thread, but today i tested also on Nexus Player.

When you have installed the last version of PopconTime, that work very well on Nexus Player ( i tested the community edition mobile x86 version ), and you download a generic LEGAL video torrent from your Chrome browser, the app work also with the external torrent that you have downloaded. You can click on the torrent file from es file explorer and the torrent open in the PopCornTime app. So you can watch also others video torrents not incluse in the list of the app. Because many movies in the list are illegals and i do not use it.

This is very useful for users that not speak English as main language so can watch also others torrents in the original language.

Sorry if you don't like this post, but i must test everything on Nexus Player to understand if things works or not.
My main purpose is development and i'm against piracy.

If you need the apk that work very well on Nexus Player but is listed as incomatible in google play you can download the apk of vpn.ht from here:

To fix the rotation problem you can use the app settings module or an app from google play.

Teamviewer Quicksupport Addon

Hey!

I just installed this ROM and I think this is the best out there for the NP.

I'm having an issue with teamviewer Quicksupport ADDONs. I mean, the Teamviewer Quicksupport app installs fine but the Remote Control ADD-ON (although its being offered to be supported and installed) wouldn't install.

Everytime the Quicksupport app prompts me that there is a compatible plugin available, it will attempt to install but it will so "No matching Activity found" - I checked the installed Apps and it was never installed.

I even tried going to the playstore and install the addon manually (assuming its the Quicksupport addon for INTEL) with no luck.

Is this a known issue with the Nexus Player and Teamviewer Quicksupport?

If yes, is there an app I can use to mirror the NP to an android phone or tablet (mirror) because I would rather use that as a remote instead of bluetooth keyboard (mouse) combo or even droidmote. I have a nexus 7 (1st gen) laying around here and I want to use that as a main mirror remote.

For the second question, mirror your tablet to Nexus Player / Chromecast and you have the same solution. But you will understand also why is not an usable solution. Or if you like you have solved your problem

I want create an US account to test, But to create an US account you must have a credit card from an US bank that i not have at moment.

Just an info for Android TV users.

I see some Android TV fans that try to modify standard apk with leanback banner and publish many modified apk to sideload to Android TV.

Apart that also if you sideload, the app can't work well in most case because the default dpi of Android TV show the app with bad resolution and others problems like option menu, status bar etc. etc.

If you not know, when you change the signature from the apk, the app can't be automatically updated from Google Play, so you must create another apk to have the app updated. This cause that you have always an old version or the app became old in short time.

If you need to sideload an apk, i suggest at least one with the original signature.

The fact that an user change the original signature of an apk and publish it, is legal only if the original developer not complain. So take care to do this.

Instead an apk with the original signature is legit.

So, my suggestion is to not lose time with this modified apk. If you need the original version, is better if you download it from apkpure.com

In full Android instead you can download and update directly from Google Play. In case some free apk show as not compatible you can download it from apkpure.com

If an user use Android TV as it was invented, all ok not problem, but if an user try to transform Android TV in full Android with sideload he lose only time.

Android TV is a player for movies and songs, full Android instead is a real Android OS where you can watch movies, listen songs and all others millions things that Android can offer and multi touch is not a problem but something that help you in interaction if you use the right input device.

Amazon Video works great on my Galaxy S3 phone (AICP, running 6.0.1). I think Amazon looks to see if it's a competing device (Nexus Player, Shield TV) and doesn't allow it to work unless you spoof it somehow.

Quick Update for your question:

=> I can't cast Amazon Video(From My phone) to Nexus.
As far as I know, there is no feature on Amazon Video App.
Other apps(ex: YouTube) can cast a video to Nexus Player without any problem as you already know.

=> I can't watch directly from Chrome Browser.
In somehow, Amazon.com website knows this is the Non-PC/Computer device types and re-direct to Amazon Video App download Page.

I will keep update as soon as I could try previous apps links I found and mentioned to you.

Tested all apks from links. None of them worked. Either same symptom(just can't play)
or not possible to install the apk at the beginning.

I not update when there are only security patches because we have root, with root if something happen, we can see the preces, kill and delete. We have the same permissions of the system. Security patches are useful for users that are guests inside their OS

I am not referring to the security patches that were included in MMB29T, but the fix to the critical bug that plagued the nexus player for months described in that issue report. It took Google a long time to acknowledge it, but they finally confirmed a fix in reply 41 of that issue that was said to come out in an OTA early in January due to Google not releasing things over the holidays. Reply 55 confirmed that the latest build resolves the issue as well as this discussion on reddit which links to the exact code change. I can confirm that the latest v1.2 of this rom exhibits this video range issue simply by using google cast and it would greatly benefit from being updated with this change.

That patch is one of the biggest complaints with the Nexus Players software and affects thousands of users. http://www.androidauthority.com/nexus-display-bug-colors-660093 and it isn't a security patch, its a video patch so that colors are more accurate, especially blacks which are super important. This patch for 6.0 is the reason I waited until now to purchase the NP, which finally comes in the mail today, yay, lol. The latest software finally fixes the washed out colors.
