Your post is ridiculous. Do you know why ?
Because this is the stock firmware, the same android tv that you have but with full google play, normal system ui and normal settings.
The others additions in kernel and the fact that you can have audio unlocked and webcam don't make any difference in the video part or in all others parts of firmware.

You can run all normal android apps or if you want also android tv apps , so 0 differences in the firmware. This is the stock firmware without imposed limitations :)

Before write reflect.

P.S.
I use Netflix daily with no problems. I prefer the normal version, but you can use also the Leanback version.
@zulu99: I installed first Lollirock 2.1, then 5.1.1 Stock and finally reverted back to 5.0 due to the missing menu issue in 5.1+. I did see a marked difference in quality when using the Netflix app on stock vs. your ROM. Don't know what is going on there but I'm projecting on an 82" screen and quality is definitely not at my usual 1080P. Annoyed though that when using 5.0 stock for menu completeness purposes, no Dolby Digital 5.1 option appears in Netflix despite running their latest version. Stock even has something built-in to prevent you from installing Blackmart.

What I found would be a nice addition to your ROM is adding Settings Menu support for Google Cast and Daydream functionality. I wanted 2.1 to not go to sleep ever, Daydream using Google+ photos and function exactly like a Chromecast adapter would but couldn't do so with your ROM while under stock it is not an issue.

I tried this rom out about 2 weeks ago.

Personally I think the Nexus player strock rom is perfect except for the lack of NTFS. After going back to it and seeing the play store only allowing for apps which work on the tv it was refreshing.

I wish someone would release a modified stock rom which adds root and NTFS support.
Well, you can root the stock rom and use stickmount for ntfs support. but the only thing i'm not able to do with the stock rom is to activate to volume control. this is the main reason for me not to use the stock. it's ridiciolous that android doesnt let you control the volume...

How do I get apps to work in leanback mode? I tried the shortcut method but not all the apps show the leanback launcher method. For example, I downloaded YouTube and it doesn't show up the leanback shortcut. Any ideas?

Does multiuser support work with this rom? I assume so, but wondering how the unlock works, and also assuming the np remote is probably not going to work for that. A mouse is needed? Or can the np tablet/phone app work for unlocking?

You can create the shortcut of leanback launcher and start it like a normal app instead of a standard launcher.

But i also understand, that normal apps are better than leanback apps. No exception.

If you want, this leanback launcher version have also mouse support:

Normal Netflix app is not 1080p because Netflix limit it but i not know the reason.
The leanback version instead, that you can find in apkmirror website is 1080p

Maybe is just a question of build.prop or because for Netflix all nexus player users must use the leanback version. In others word is not a firmware problem and you can still watch at 1080p if you use the leanback version.

You can set when the display go in sleep from android settings. I set it to 30 minutes of inactivity. But you can also remove the sleep from developer settings. Stay awake.

This firmware is full widevine enabled and very secure for DRM apps ( you can't record videos with drm ), so you can complain with Netflix if create problems to users in this way, without any valid reason.

Or find a better video services. Many users use kodi and addons for this reason.

@zulu99, can I use a VPN with your 6.0 ROM? My ISP always seems to throttle Netflix and Youtube streams, but when I connect my VPN I get the full 1080p streams almost instantly, but only when using my VPN (Private Internet Access). So I am always forced to use my Desktop computer for streaming to the TV.

I also wanted to know why you used the MRA58K and not the newest MRA58N? I know its only a security update, but still curious why. Thanks for your great work. :good:

You can use vpn, but i not tested. Let me know if there are problems but i don't think

About version, because is just a security update. When others more important things will be corrected, and there are many important things to correct for Nexus Player in AOSP, i will update. This firmware is not perfect, but the problems are on AOSP and are about graphical operations / video decode. On the stock firmware is the same.

About security update, we have root, we are more secure :) Despite what Google say.
With root we can remove the infection if we get one because we can see all process, we can kill and delete everything.

We are Android users, not Iphone users. :)

There are 2 apps of Netflix on Play Store:
Netflix and Netflix for Android Tv

"Netflix for Android Tv" is for leanback launcher
and probably you are using "standard" Netflix app with Google Now Launcher...

Use Leanback launcher and Install Netflix app and check if works well, then you could do a shorcut on Google Now Launcher as Zulu teached us.

PLEASE, let me know if Netflix works @ 1080p with 5.1
Thanks !

ps.
I'm a minix user and I just bought a Nexus Player only for Netflix (1080p + 5.1) :D

and what exactly is that for?
it says "This zip will enable the play/pause button on the nexus remote to be used as the contextual menu button in Kodi. It also optimizes the streaming settings for a device with 1GB of RAM to prevent playback interuptions and allow continuous streaming. If you have your own advancedsettings.xml you may not want to flash this."

I have no idea what advancedsettings.xml is so I probably don't have it...or at least I don't think I do. But that would seem like I would need that. I use kodi a lot but it does buffer a lot...

Im attempting to do what was mentioned a few posts up(netflix leanback) but im not sure how. I installed leanback through chrome browser but it only has 5 apps on home and select button doesn't work. Luckily seetings was still in my recents.
Does this need to be flashed with another gapps package? I still want full android i think, but trying to get leanback Netflix with HD. Watched the video but it appears to just be a demo with no instructions or download links. Thanks.
Btw--think that advanced settings zip will modify your cache (fix buffering) but also put a new keymap that probably assign context menu to a key. I used keymap editor to make the back button stop video but its not working for context menu. If anyone has a keymap that does both please share.

Edit-nevermind. Found it myself...

http://kodi.wiki/view/Alternative_keymaps_for_Nexus_Player_remote

Anyone who doesnt know. Just copy the text to a blank document with whatever text editor you have. Save as a. xml file then put it in your keymaps folder. Restart kodi and youll have a more functional remote.
