About Carbon

CarbonRom is an aftermarket firmware based on the Android Open Source Project. We are dedicated to fast, stable, and feature-filled roms, honesty and communication with our users, and openness with our code. We like frequent builds, with the very latest and greatest hardware support and fixes. We strive to not only provide you with the best rom we can build, but also to give back to the Android community and our fellow developers. For us, this is about creating something we can be proud of and hope you will enjoy.

Please feel free to look at, build, and use our code on CarbonDev GitHub.

We would like to thank CyanogenMod for their device trees, framework/settings mods and their code that was incorporated into this project. We also extend our gratitude to the devs whose code that we have incorporated. Proper authorship has been maintained and can be viewed on our repository.

Special thanks also go to Slim Rom for some of their features, PA, AOKP, and anyone else we may have borrowed commits from that hasn't been mentioned here. If you feel you have been unfairly left out, please - let us know.

While we make every effort to test these builds as much as possible, we are not responsible for anything that may happen to your device, family, pets, or perception of reality. We ask that you do your part to know your device and know how to recover from problems before you flash! If you have questions, ask your fellow users or ask us in #teamcarbon on freenode IRC.

Features
Simply stated, we can't really list features here. There are too many and they change too frequently, and we now support a truly insane number of devices. Chances are, if you like a feature, we have it already. Seriously.

Download Carbon

All Carbon downloads and further information such as features, changelog, and FAQ can be found on our goo.im page.

Both nightly and release builds are available. Please note that nightlies are for development purposes. This means that they may not work properly, may not flash, may not build for days at a time, and will probably eat your cat. If you flash these, know what you're doing, have backups, and don't complain when something happens. It's on you!

Support

We spend an astonishing amount of time developing this software. We can't spend much time on XDA as a result, so if you need support, please try the following:

1) Search. Search, search, search. Yes, you. I don't care how unique or important your question is, it's very likely someone has adressed it already. Especially if you're even close to new at this.

2) Read our FAQ, which can be found on our goo.im page linked above. It's new, but expanding fast. Just like us!

3) Ask a question in your device forum. Someone will no doubt try to help you. Warning: this help may come in the form of telling you it's a dumb question that has been asked before. See step 1 - such are the perils of asking questions when you haven't done the research yourself. Android is about helping yourself.

4) Join our G+ Community: http://community.carbon-rom.com This is where we spend the bulk of our time and the best way to reach us and other community members. We update and frequent this community far more than XDA, simply due to time constraints and the convenience of G+.

5) Ask a question on our IRC channel. Connect to #teamcarbon on irc.freenode.net or click here. You'll find several other Carbon fans and usually one or more devs as well. Please be polite.

Whenever I start a GPS app phone soft reboots.
Great ROM, reminds me of Codename Android for the GNex but have to revert to my nandoid because of the GPS bug. Hope it'll be fixed soon.

Edit: Got it fixed, I had to disable and re-enable the Location access.

Edit2: Still have GPS soft reboots, looks like it's a CM issue: http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/31539/. Not yet fixed.

Don't know why this wasn't tested before. I told nocoast about the issue before he made the build to test it before and to revert that patch if gps didn't work. Sorry about that I will try to get a new build out after work today if no one else does before I get home.

    Update

Hey guys, about our communication with the community. I dont post updates to xda personally because I am a one man PR team. I can not go through 55+ threads and give you guys an update every time something new happens. We have a new website if you didn't know, carbon-rom.com. That is where I am mostly posting updates about our work, and also in the G+ community I have commented numerous times on the 4.4 posts with status updates on our 4.4 rom. So if you want the information, it is out there if you are not lazy and expect it to be spoon-fed to you. I am not a dev but all I can say is our devs are busting their butts every single day to get 4.4 working smoothly. But we learned that it is better to stay slow and ensure every single feature works correctly before just slapping out a rom for you guys. We want a stable, smooth, fast and feature-filled rom which takes time since we started completely from scratch with 4.4. Enjoy your 4.3 Carbon nightlies, or use another rom for now that is on 4.4 that you enjoy. Don't worry you wont hurt our feelings. Its your device, you can do whatever you like with it. Once we release 4.4 we will be glad to have you back if you decide to roam around for a while.

TL;DR We are working on 4.4 every day. It's built from scratch so it will take a while. For communication from the team, check out our site carbon-rom.com, or the G+ community, both of which are in my sig. Happy Holidays :)

Hola everybody! So we decided to make an actual CarbonDev account and post useful information about the rom through this account instead of our personal accounts, you know, so we seem professional and whatnot. We are also in the process of changing the OP's to this account so they don't say 1.6 anymore lol. We have contacted xda and are waiting for that to get done, all in good time. We hope this change will make everything a bit easier for you, our precious users, but also for us in a logistical sense. We try to do everything possible to make Carbon user friendly and to meet the needs of the majority and hopefully this will help us maintain that goal. Anyways, back to work! Peace.

And yes we do know of the bugs existence ;) We removed it a while ago but it seems to have snuck its way back in. We'll bust out the Raid and suffocate this bug once again.

Guys I am your maintainer and also official Carbon Rom Develpoper !
If you have any questions please ask me :)

If it's omni's OpenDelta, then it just sucks that carbon adds copycrap rights by adding its name to the delta module. Even omni uses it as OpenDelta, and not as OmniDelta

It is based on omni's OpenDelta, but it works with Carbon, and not omni. Thus, Carbon Delta. Additionally, it's branded as Carbon Delta to provide consistency with the other Carbon components, like Carbon Fibers and Carbon Wallpapers, as well as Dark Carbon.

If you have an issue with our adding "copycrap rights" to something we've modified and release the source to, as required by and in the spirit of the original license (GPLv3), then feel free to write the EFF and don't use our implementation of OpenDelta. Nobody involved in the Carbon Delta project has ever claimed ownership of it, and it's been attributed in every possible place to the Omni team, specifically Chainfire, as the base.

Perhaps you should direct some of your frustration at the GPL itself for allowing such uses, rather than the people who use the license as it was intended, in good faith and spirit?

This will be the last full ROM I post on the thread most likely. If you save the zip file in the root of your internal storage, it'll pick up auto-updates when they're released as I get around to them. I'm releasing this only as a test of the automatic update system. It is NOT a general use, official Carbon release.

There's a small bonus, though - when we enable nightly builds for mako, this build (and its subsequent updates) should (emphasis: should) automagically migrate to the NIGHTLY branch so you don't have to worry about downloading and reflashing.

Yes, there's a SystemUI force close upon boot for some people. Tap the "OK" button and it won't bother you until you reboot once more. I'm working on fixing it. Everything else should behave itself. There's a couple placeholder graphics here and there, and some incomplete functionality in Carbon Fibers. It's not finished, nor up to the level of polish the Carbon Team believes is necessary for a general release. The standard disclaimer applies - neither I, nor Team Carbon, are responsible if this build bricks your phone, kills your cat, impregnates your daughter, or steals your car after replacing your new PS4 with a 3DO. You have been warned.
