Lollirock 1.6rc works perfectly!

Before i will publish on first page, i need your approval.

Nexus Player LolliRock v.1.6 AOSP Android 5.1 - Release candidate 1

Download:
http://goo.gl/qzbUOn

Instructions:
Make sure you have installed at least on time the stock 5.1 firmware so you have the new bootloader.
Put the device in bootloader mode:

1) fastboot flash boot boot.img
2) fastboot flash system system.img
3) fastboot -w

To root download this file http://download.chainfire.eu/631/CF-R and extract the file root.img
4) fastboot boot root.img
I installed stock Lollipop 5.1 Saturday & ran it for a day, then installed your new Lollirock 1.6 release candidate. I find Lollirock 1.6 rc to work perfectly and better than Nexus Player's new stock ROM. I have tested it with Google apps Maps, Chrome, GMail, Play Music, You Tube, Keep, New & Weather, People, Play Newsstand and Settings and had zero problems.
I've also tested the new rom with after-market apps Puffin, Solitaire, TwitPro, UI Tuner, Accuweather, Hulu, Epson print enabler and ES File Explorer and had no crashes or slow frame rates or other unengineered results.
However, some aftermarket apps, TWiT Pro and AccuWeather, ID the Nexus Player as an Android TV device even though the ROM is of an Android tablet or phone and they limit functionality. Is there a line hidden in ROM that could be changed to make the Nexus Player appear to be a Chromebox or tablet or hi-rez phone?
FlashFox installs but fails to run with a very considerate and informative message (thankyou, FlashFox writers) saying that FlashFox doesn't support Intel chips.
Finally, some apps, Crackle & Next Issue, are blocked from installing by the Play Store app, presumably because of a misidentification.
Lollirock 1.6 is a great ROM, better than even the latest stock Android TV one. THANKS!

Editted to add:
I forget to mention that I've casted to the LolliRock'n Nexus Player since upgrading to 1.6 several times and for a duration of 30 minutes to an hour each time. It connected quickly, quality of the picture was fantastic, syncing of sound & picture was perfect and I experienced no crashes. GREAT!

fugu and nexus player fields in build.prop can show your device as Android TV for some apps. But i think that changing this can help. But i suggest to write to developer and exaplain that is not necessary base the app behaviour on build.prop, a good app use only the android sdk and not this bad check.

Thanks for your accurate test. This is what mean collaboration. Many thanks also to all others testers.

no, if you have problems, a factory reset solve. Without the command fastboot -w that purge old data i'm not sure about the process, some old data can create problems, solvable with a fresh install or factory reset or with the command fastboot -w in the installation process as i wrote in the readme.
I did a full wipe after install. Will look into it tonight

I'm guessing hbo go will still not work with this rom? No way to trick it into thinking the system is stock?
I'm not familiar with HBO go in particular, though I've found that some apps look for certain things to determine if a device is rooted. In fact, the check is sometimes very primitive, like testing some system properties for the string "test-keys" (I've encountered this with a local app here).

I've found an HBO relevant post from way back, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36720865&postcount=29

Lollirock doesnt come 'rooted', nor with busybox, so it would be easy for you to test the test-keys bit. One way would be:

adb root
adb remount
adb pull /system/build.prop
#edit build prop, changing all instances of "test-keys" to "release-keys"
adb push build.prop /system/
adb shell chmod 644 /system/build.prop
adb reboot

Keep us updated..

With the stock firmware update 5.1, Google has removed the compatibility to thousands of apps that you could manually sideload in the Nexus Player. In fact, the menu of classic applications is no longer accessible and in this way, in one fell swoop, broke compatibility with the classic Android world. I think this move ruin still more Android TV. Long life to the full versions of Android as LolliRock and attention to buy other Android TV devices, if you are not already sure that you can change the firmware with a full version of Android.

Android TV, the crap OS that ruine Android. Bad move dear Google, bad move.

Android in TV should be full Android in TV and not a crap subspecie of Android.

I had BBC iPlayer sideloaded, but could not access the standard menus after the 5.1 update. Quite a shame. The whole reason I bought the NP was to watch UK television. It worked perfect being rooted using droidmote (to access all those now nonexistent menus). Now have to wait for official UK apps for the NP. My NP is now reduced to a casting device.

That is terrible news, but to clarify this does not affect your 1.6 release does it? As I understand 1.6 uses 5.1 full android and has access to all the play store has to offer.

Thanks for keeping the Nexus Player alive for us.

Sure is not valid for LolliRock. LolliRock is full Android. Android TV instead from 5.1 becomes more and more an abortion.

Sorry for the use of inappropriate language, but I get very nervous when these companies use these petty tricks to force users to do what they want. Only to protect their economic interests.

Agreed, and thanks for the confirmation.

That is correct. Everything that has worked with 5.02, works with 5.1 as well.

He also added support for menu button for regular android TV users, through server side, on his app.

Note 4 ?

Is there a way when casting on Lollirock to get it to cast in fullscreen?

P.S. Lollirock 1.6 is working great--so much better performance than stock. Thank you zulu99!

Hi Zulu, will there be any changes in 1.6 final? Or is this test version likely to just become final? Thanks!
I'm working on bluetooth audio, but do not expect much, because what we did on the audio is already a miracle. In fact, the audio HAL of Nexus Player is very limited, is already a miracle that with LolliRock we can change volume, mute, use usb audio from webcam for voice search on google now and make voice / video call with skype / hangout.

If someone wants to help on the bluetooth audio, I gladly accept help.

Tried pairing Red Samurai Android bluetooth gamepad with 1.6 Lollirock--won't pair: "can't communicate with GS gamepad."
