What is precisely this cifsManager app that you are try to using ? The link.
CIFSmanager is the main app I am trying to use: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ws.plattner.cifsmanager

I have also tried Mount Manager which appears to be more user friendly with its GUI : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.twimager.cifsmanager

I have saved the associated modules locally (cifs.ko , mdv.ko , nls_utf8.ko) , Mount Manager has an issue loading the modules even tho it can browse to the module location and list them as available.

If you or anyone else has a suggestion for an app that works with LolliRock I can use to mount a network drive I would appreciate it. I want to be able to have my Nexus Player apps to see the mount within the app (example: MAME emulator to see the path/mount of where I have all of my ROMS stored on my network drive or my media player to see the path/mount of all of my videos/music on my network drive)

Any help would be appreciated :)

Both apps require root and are very old. Last update in 2011. Root apps for Lollipop should be updated.

You don't need external modules, all modules are already in the kernel. Infact es file explorer work.

To understand if is a problem of the old app, you can try to mount manually with terminal emulator your folders. If you need extra commands you can install busybox from google play.

You should be able to do manually what the app do in graphical way.

UPDATE
Try to install busybox from google play and retry with your apps. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox

Do I need to sideload that version of busybox? I am unable to install it from Google Play - it shows as incompatible and will not directly let me install.
I was able to install this busybox: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.busybox.installer
I also installed a busybox checker to confirm installation of busybox and it indicated busybox was installed and running.

I know I can use ES File explorer to access the network location but ES Explorer does not (from what I learned/know) have the ability to mount folders. I need to be able to mount the folders so other programs can see the location.
I am not very experienced with manually using terminal emulator to mount folders so I'll have to do some reading up on the internet to see how I do this. Thanks for the advice. I have some reading to do.

I see you mention kernel modifications in your OP, but I don't see any link to your sources as required by the GPL?
The kernel is pure AOSP, i enabled only modules, that every one can enable and compile.
I shared device tree in previous posts and i will share all that users want because i not sell this work, is a super free work.
My hours free for the community.

But i have a suggestion for you, instead of complain for Gpl with a little developer, why you not complain with thousand of big company that steal the work of others and do not share anything. Or better, you can help us to improve this firmware.

Android, an open source OS without root, with locked bootloader and with thousand of propretary precompiled binary.
Maybe this not violate GPL but for sure obliges users to the will of a few.

If you need a step by step guide to compile the kernel from aosp, let me know. I will post to you the right Google link and my suggestions.

Kernel source Code:
https://android.googlesource.com/kernel/x86_64/

Download the apk of Busybox and sideload it
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox

You can download the apk from:
http://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/

I suggest to use rotation locker, longpress on landscape, otherwise bysybox installation go in portrait. In the busybox installation gui click on install.

I watch live TV from antenna without problems. And i can also record and replay. The stream should be DVB-T mpeg2 ts

Android in Tv and TV in Android but without limitations of AndroidTV :)

I am able to now create the network mount using cifsManager but the directory/folder appears empty.

I came across this article the seems to identify the issue I am having exactly with Lollipop & cifsManager, this guy is using a Nexus phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/fix-empty-app-mounted-directories-t2995645

Wanted to know if you can look at the above link and offer your thoughts??

almost there! :)
I know you're trying to have a go at it with cifs, old school, but just so you know, stick mount from chainfire works just fine on 5.1, and in combination with folder mount for transferring files to external works great.

I often wonder how it would be to have lollirock on nvidia shield upcoming android TV, as it would be a perfect marriage between hardware, software and price.
In the mean time nexus player with lollirock > nvidia shield with plain android tv

Note 4 ?

You are my idol.
But i suggest to put the > character in bold, red and with big font size. Like this > ;)

My work is just an example to show how Android is better than Android TV. And for now there are no doubts.

Android TV style launcher for easier use from the couch?

Is there anything that will make this a little more remote control friendly? I currently have an Intel NUC connected to my TV and hate the fact that I have to bust out my Dinovo Mini or keyboard and mouse to do any actual work on it. I may be crucified for this, but I really do like the remote control and UI that comes stock on the Nexus Player.

The best OS for TV is Android, Windows is for desktop at least for me.

But also with Windows you can use DroidMote like in Android and you will forget your hardware mouse / keyboard.
But the special thing is that you can use also all real multi-touch functionality.
In others words real multi-touch without touch-screen

I understand what you are sating, but I am looking for more of a launcher/skin change that is more remote control friendly, like the stock UI or even Windows "Metro". Does anything like this exist?

Hi, there are two apps I would recommend, the first is a free app by chainfire https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.tv.sideloadlauncher&hl=en it's not super pretty but it gets the job done. If your looking for something a little more elegant and don't mind paying a little Simple TV Launcher is a great alternative https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lepidusdevelopment.simpletvlauncher&hl=en. I think both can be installed without side loading, but don't quote me. Hope this helps!

Thank you for trying to help, but here is why there is no helping him or others like him.
It is not just about launcher. If it were, original TV launcher from first page would have been enough, but it's not. Kevin's idea is to have full stock android, that looks like android TV, and has full use of bundled remote, and does not want to fall back to mouse/keyboard.
Here's the thing. Apps are not remote friendly. Which is why they were rebuilt essspecially for Android TV, and most will not run under android even of sideloaded. Some like plex automatically recognize if it was launched with android TV launcher or Android, and respond accordingly. That is the only app that I've seen that behaves like that, others are separate, and they either don't run, or take over. Play store is the example of app that takes over, as it has same signature, but seems to be the dominant one so it's very hard getting mainstream android back. YouTube and Netflix is example of app that just does not run at all.

There's tons of other examples but I think I made my point, as it is virtually impossible to marry these 2 interfaces.
So actually best advice for those that want android TV setup, is to go back to android TV, no matter how rude that may sound, it's not.
Droid mote is sound alternative, but I have feeling people that are asking this will settle for nothing else but full android TV and it's remote. And I get where they are coming from, having kids that find remote easier to use and loving search function on remote, yet when I keep telling them, 'oh you can't do that' , or 'you can't do that either', because of android TV constraints, they (actually older daughter and wife, as the little one is still little clueless toddler) ask for me to load lollirock back. Got some beautiful live wallpapers (not all work) and all is fine in household.

Original remote is somewhere in the basement now.

My opinion (which nobody asked for, but I'm giving out for free today!) is to update the OP with this:

The remote that came with the Nexus Player will pair and very minimally work with this ROM, however it is not supported so please refrain from asking questions in this thread about it. I recommend using DroidMote or a keyboard/mouse for realistic functionality.

Make it big and bold and colorful and impossible to miss...

I appreciate your comments and input on this matter. I have been a cord cutter now for 8+ years, using OTA antenna programming and everything from Netflix and Hulu to Torrents and Usenet. I've been rooting and roming Android devices since the original VZW Droid 1. I now have a family and am trying to keep everything as simplistic and user friendly as possible. I also just do not have the time and energy I used to have to tinker, even though I do miss it at times I am just at that point now that I just want stuff to work. I will be keeping my finger on the pulse of this project as it continues to grow, and would love to visit it later on if it meets my needs.

I actually misunderstood your first post. Apologies.
Now teach me. You said that you already can see, browse and use you hard drive in es. I personally just use samba shares with either es, to manipulate every single file and folder I chose to share, or kodi/plex for just media. With access to a pc folders as well as hard drive attached to router.
What would be the benefit of cifs mounting just one folder in nexus player?
