Anyone having camera issues, use this .apk file instead:

Vanir Camera2.apk

I extracted this from the 2/3/2014 build of Vanir ROM and then swapped out the one that came with Carbon ROM, in the zip file itself. Just drag and drop in the location system/app, choose "yes" to replace the existing camera2.apk file. Did a clean install of the latest Carbon nightly to test, had no freezes or crashes when switching every possible combo I could think of-front camera, rear camera, video. Took multiple pics and shot several seconds of video every time I switched, no problems. Hope this helps!

I came from the S2 or epic touch, flashing aosp rom then you needed an ics modem and gapps. I dont see nothen in theop ? Running moar rom now with MK3.
Flashing GApps is S.O.P. for AOSP based ROM's. I like the Paranoid Android 0-Day GApps, link is in my signature line. Tons of other options available for GApps though, I also like the ones from @BaNkS. Your modem is up to you, that will stay until you change it, that is basically a matter of which one gives you the best signal/data in your area of the world.

Also be aware, Carbon team recommends flashing the ROM and GApps in the same session before booting into system. My normal procedure is to do two separate sessions, while letting the ROM "settle" before flashing GApps, but the initial setup on Carbon involves getting your Google stuff set up as well, so I follow their recommendation when flashing Carbon. Please see my post a few back as well about how to replace the camera .apk file so that you have a working camera. And finally, if you aren't using it, I strongly recommend using Philz Touch recovery, link for that is also in my signature line. Feel free to PM me or post with any other questions/concerns!

Yes and yes. Every ROM contains a kernel, it is like the engine in a car-nothing will happen without it. You won't want to go back to TW once you try Carbon though! You can also flash custom kernels if you want. The one that comes with Carbon is very nice, but the dkp kernel from @decimalman is awesome!

Every time I to install this ROM with TWRP I get an "assert error". This happens with the nightlies as well as the Jellybean.

Anyone else get this error? I even looked online and tried to delete the first statement in the Script file.

Give Philz Touch recovery a try instead, it is the best one for flashing KitKat ROMs.

I updated TWRP to the latest version and had zero issues flashing this. Just a FYI.

Data & LTE works great for me. On MK3 as well.

I continued having the same issue even with this camera. It has been fixed upstream in CM11. The 2-13 build of CM11 has fixed it for me. I'm sure that will probably make its way into Carbon soon. There must be some slight internal differences between our phones for some of us to have that issue and others not.
