Okay. As long as it serves you good.

Yes, I use a Kindle Fire HD7 as it is. I have a Sony Xperia M (Rooted and tweaked) and a Lumia 625. Yes, I wrote those comments after using Kindle Fire HD 7. Been using it for a year now.

I am using the nightlies. Tried 12.1 but it was too unstable for the device. Maybe the hardware is too old. CM11 is slick.....

I didn't find CM11 slick at all. It was extremely laggy, and when my wife played Hay-Day or Pyramid Solitaire on it the graphics were very jerky and sluggish. She finally got so frustrated she quit using the device for anything except to read her ebooks. So I switched to Omni-ROM 5.1-20150318 and it was like buying a new device. Very smooth and her games run great on it.

We gave CM11 nine months of updates before finally giving up on it.

Yeah stock CM11 with or without the overclocking kernel (mine is stable at 1.7ghz) is the smoothest/fastest combo I've found. It feels like a device that came out in 2013 or 2014. All CM12 based roms have been worse for performance and more buggy. I'd only use CM12 if you want the lollipop changes, not for its performance.

Coulda swore i use the oc kernel on this before. Can you tell me exactly which one you're using? The thread is a bit confusing as far as download links. It also touches on needing to switch to f2fs and that it'll wipe EVERYTHING. I just want to flash it in recovery and at most do a full wipe (everything but internal) if that's possible.
Im actually using CM11 right now. Can i just flash the oc kernel in recovery?

This is the kernel for any CM11 based rom. If you want to change the data partition to F2FS it'll wipe all your data. I think you can flash this and it'll work for EXT4, and you'll be able to overclock, but I'm not entirely sure.

That's the one I just tried. First I tried to flash it over cm then I did a full wipe but nothing worked. Every time I try to flash it just goes right back to twrp screen.
I am using the latest nightly build. Maybe it doesn't work anymore?

This should be the file you're using Bootimg_ext4orf2fs_CM11_Overclock_20140712 - Copy.zip

I'm using it with the latest nightly. My steps are something like this:
1. Assuming not formatted to F2FS: Wipe > Advanced Wipe > Select Data and Repair or Change File System > format to F2FS and reboot back to recovery
2. Wipe > Format Data and reboot back to recovery
3. Transfer files to tablet and install the rom, then kernel, then gapps. Then wipe dalvik cache when it's finished.

Works every time for me.

Thanks for taking the time. That will (correct me if I'm wrong) wipe all data from sdcard in step 1 or 2?
I was hoping I wouldn't need to do that. Its not the work so much as it is the time. I got a lot of stuff I want to keep. Its easy to move it and move it back but it takes some time. So I guess then question now is it worth it for the increase in performance?
Im just looking for feedback if anyone has some. I used the oc kernel on lollipop and my kindle became even more prone to freezes and random reboots. But lp ROMs never ran well for me. KK seems to be a lot more stable. Thanks again.

I wouldn't worry about it then. This is still the smoothest/fastest rom without the kernel.

As for lollipop kernels, the weird thing is that when I tried an overclock kernel for it, it only got somewhat stable around 1.5ghz instead of 1.7ghz. It shows how much more stable using CM11 is.

Hey thanks again for the help. I decided to just go ahead and install the kernel. It was easy importing my data since the mount option in twrp was working. For some reason I don't think worked last time and moving things was kind of a hassle.
This tablet is running great with the latest nightly and the oc kernel!

So I'm hoping for a little more help. The above guide worked perfectly the first time. Then there was an update to CM 12 so I wanted to try it out--not for me.
So now I want to go back to f2fs. I repeat the steps above and the rom flashes fine but i can't get the kernel to flash. It just boots me right back to twrp screen. I'm not sure what info to provide. There's no error. Any help is appreciated!

***Actually there is an error. When I attempted to format data in step 2 I get "E: Unknown MTP message type: 1" Hope that helps. And of course after rebooting it lets me flash the rom but not the kernel.

OFFICIAL CyanogenMod 11.0 for the Kindle Fire HD 7"

*** USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! WHILE I TRY MY BEST TO PROVIDE WORKING KERNELS/ROMS, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF THIS SOFTWARE OR ANYTHING I'VE WORKED ON SUDDENLY FRIES YOUR DEVICE. ***

BEFORE YOU BEGIN MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A 2ND-BOOTLOADER AND TWRP 2.7.0.0 INSTALLED CORRECTLY AND CAN SEE THE BLUE LOGO DURING BOOTUP:

    Mirror 2: Download (Crackflasher)

PLEASE BE SURE TO WIPE SYSTEM & DATA/CACHE (FACTORY RESET) BEFORE UPGRADING TO ANDROID 4.4.
(It's the "Wipe" button and then "System" and then "Factory Reset" button in TWRP -- this does NOT clear your sdcard space)

    CHANGES (always includes CM changes):
    • [04/14] Kernel cleanup including bugfix for app-asec related APP crashes
    • [04/14] Partition mount flag cleanup
    • [03/25] Bugfix for streaming video where stream dies every 4-5mins (specifically Google Play Movies)

    • [11/25] First CM11.0 build
    • [11/15] SElinux now included in the kernel and set to permissive. I don't recommend turning it to enforcing as I'm still debugging the "deny" messages.
    • [08/12] All new "from source" sensor driver[/B]
    • [08/12] Temp. disable light sensor (due to recode of sensor driver)
    • [07/31] First CM10.2 build

As you some of you may have noticed: I have a new job working with Linaro Mobile Group beginning 9/1/2014.

This is a HUGE change in my professional career, and I want to be 100% focused on my current duties.

This means, that I will be ending my support for the Kindle Fire devices as official CM maintainer.

Over the next few weeks, I'll be working with CM to get a replacement dev to step in and continue updates / tweaks to the device.

    For more information:
    https://plus.google.com/111109372727398356624/posts/AtoJ3xLj35b

Lastly, ending my support for the Kindles was a VERY difficult choice. My TODO list is long and extensive with plans for updates well into next year ... To not get around to really polishing many of these builds makes me a bit sad.

BUT, this is where YOU (the community) can step in and make a difference. Continue to push these devices onward. I wish you all well.

    KNOWN ISSUES:
    • When plugged into some chargers, touchscreen shows ghost touch info
    • Bluetooth tether (to say a phone for internet) doesn't seem to be working correctly
    • Accelerometer can stop working occasionally. Needs debugging. (this seems better lately)
    • Ambient light sensor needs to be re-coded as an IIO driver
    • Headphones / BT audio route testing (plugging / unplugging can cause stuck audio)
    • Fix USB OTG support in the kernel
    • Better HDMI support for more resolutions
    • No Amazon Prime Video support
    • No Dolby audio support
    • "Cast Screen" does not function correctly under Settings -> Display
    • [FIXED-2014-05-20] Audio HAL cleanup and use system/media audio-route sources
    • [FIXED-2014-05-20] More camera tweaks
    • [FIXED-2014-05-13] Hardware Decoder/Encoder support update to KK-based sources
    • [FIXED-2014-05-13] Camera could use a small update for better handling
    • [FIXED-2014-05-02] Audio low latency issues when cover is closed or 2 apps play audio at once (stuttering)
    • [FIXED-2014-04-18] VPN has issues, needs debugging
    • [FIXED-2014-04-15] Possible other game issues, but I need more examples of games that don't run

    Hi Guys,

I'm nearly finished debugging the KFire HD 7" CM12.0 build. It's pretty close.

For those that are interested (and daring), I've pushed all of my work up to the CyanogenMod trees and you can run test builds of your own. Use at your own risk currently.

    Happy Holidays

If you haven't seen the posting... the Kindle Fire HD's were accepted into CM's official repos and will begin receiving nightly updates once a repo name change happens. Probably another day or 2.

Also, the first CM nightly will contain a bugfix for the apps which crash due to large libraries in /mnt/asec.

Previously, users were reinstalling the app w/ TitaniumBackup to fix this issue.

This affected many many apps and was in general a real hassle.
