Do we even need a user switcher?

Chances are people own their own phones and do not share. Granted its a nice feature but to me it seems useless.
I've been tearing my hair out with AOSP/CM10 builds with camera FC'ing when face recognition detects, managed to find ICJ 3.4 works and im sticking with that for the time being. I'm following though and keeping a VERY close eye on this thread!

If you dont want it just dont add a second user... it will only show when there are two users so no real issue

As for the need of multiple accounts on a phone I guess thats everyones own decision... I share a family gmail account and rather have a second user so i have only that calendar, contacts, gmail etc then having it merged with my own account

I second that. Having a Guest account is useful as well, so wife/kid is not deleting contacts,mail,apps,buying apps,etc. when they want to play a game. If you use slide or even pattern unlock, layout is perfect as well.

I admire your'e skills but after installing 4.2 on my Nexus 7 32gb I couldn't wait to go back to 4.1.2 . multi user is rubbish and the mess it makes of your file system with its 0 drive duplicating folders drove me mad.

I'm sure pabx and rogro already know, but 4.2.1 is on AOSP now with calendar fixed :)

Just did a full clean reinstall of mine (previously dirty install over CM10) and fixed up my last couple of niggles. Really recommend the clean install to anyone now... try restoring stuff as little as possible.

Yeah I know ;) Something that could easily be fixed in a custom build anyway.

Just as a general awareness thing... getting quite alot of wake time/battery drain from location services.

It's only anecdotal, but i normally leave GPS on at all times and have never experienced drain like this... currently my largest usage item. Not sure if there's any particular logs etc that may help, but let me know if there is.

You can try it out by installing the camera apk and gallery from 4.2 onto a Sense rom. It has to be a Sense rom, it doesn't work with CM10 or AOKP or AOSP for some reason...

Google Maps has been a major Battery Hog for me (keeping the phone awake for more than 40 minutes) - but i guess that's just the 'initial location bootstrap': Google Now & Co needs to re-learn my home + work adress.

what should I do if I have tried your 4.2
now I'm going back to jb/sense and that thing you posted on op, but I deleted /sdcard/0 and lost some of the .xx files and it's still MTP

What are .xx files? 4.1.2 supports MTP and MassStorage, but you have to enable MassStorage (-> notification dropdown -> select notification)

    Installation instructions
    • BACKUP YOUR DATA (using CWM)
    • Verify that your backup is complete - a backup of your sdcard may also be a good idea (see below)
    • Verify that you are running hboot 1.26 or newer (hboot 1.39 is recommended)
    • Download the ZIP and the boot.img (see Downloads)
    • Copy the .zip to your sdcard and reboot into fastboot
    • fastboot flash boot boot.img, then boot into recovery
    • WIPE your phone (this is not optional)
    • Install the .zip and reboot

    Upgrading
    You can always upgrade to a newer version without wiping any data, formatting system or wiping the cache.
    But keep in mind that you must always flash boot.img + re-flash gapps after upgrading

    I can not upgrade my hboot to 1.3x, help!

    You can still run RC13:
    This was the last release using Linux 2.6 and will therefore work on older hboot versions. RC13 is stable enough for everyday-use.


    What kernel should i use?

    Use the stock kernel from boot.img - there is nothing wrong with it. Using a different boot.img or/and kernel will just break stuff.

    Using this ROM for 2 weeks now. Love it, but like with all AOSP roms I'm not happy with the camera so I decided to actually help the community instead of the usual whining.

    I've attached a pimped Camera (which is included in the Gallery, therefore the complete Gallery2.apk has to be replaced) which includes this new features:

    -Included all native camera scene modes that our HOX Camera is capable of
    -HDR Quick Toggle (which is nothing else than background-hdr scene mode)
    -Added more exposure settings (max camera value is 12, min is -12, therefore +3 = 12, +2 = 8, +1 = 4, 0 = 0, -1 = -4, -2 = -8, -3 = -12)
    -Added 6MP wide picture size (3264x1840)

    Pab we might wanna give WiFi tethering as a (early) Christmas present ;)

    to fix:

    in netd / SoftapController.cpp:

    just return 0 in
    int SoftapController::fwReloadSoftap(int argc, char *argv[])

    and use hostapd from android 4.1 ( i just copied the entire wpa_supplicant_8 folder from 4.1, but only copied hostapd after compiling ) as atleast wpa_driver_ap_params has changed and therefor hostapd_drv_set_ap(hapd, &params) in beacon.c fails.

    Have done some basic testing using phone + tablet and connection seems to be fine ( tested Open and WPA2 PSK ).
