Does not show how is going the process of encryption

I tried to do data encryption (in Security).

My first attempt failed.
After I pressed the start of the encryption, the tablet started to encryption, but after a few seconds the tablet restarted itself.
After that, the tablet hung on the MI inscription on a black screen.
Since it was not clear what was happening, after 10 minutes I tried to turn off the tablet, but to no avail ...
I had to reinstall the system again via TWRP.

I made another attempt.
But this time the process went the same, but I didn't do anything on the tablet for longer.
In about 3 hours, the tablet was still in a state of MI inscription on a black screen.
However, this time I was able to restart the tablet and it asked for my password ...
Now in Securty it shows that the tablet is encrypted.

So the problem is that: It does not show how the encryption process is going.
Therefore, I cannot know if encryption is complete or not.

Normally it should be displayed on the screen at what level the encryption process has reached, until it reaches 100%.
Otherwise it is a big risk that you need to reinstall the system ...

This was discussed on page 7 here. Problem appears to be with TWRP. Use TWRP for Mokee (clover). Link: last post p7. PW

Just read through this entire thread and it looks like this ROM is coming together really nicely! I'm hoping to make the switch over from Havoc soon. Two questions based on what I've seen referenced in the thread so far:

1. Are people still seeing big slowdowns on 5Ghz WiFi?
2. Is it possible to use Android 10 native gestures with third party launchers yet? I use Niagra currently and would love to be able to use the new native gestures instead of falling back to FNG.

Same problem here, used Mokee TWRP and F2fs format, but encountered similar issues as described above by vjurea, however encryption works!
Thanks for confirming it works. Any issues now? Could you see activity using Mokee TWRP, or did you need to wait with nothing appearing to happen?

Also, did you temporarily unroot to encrypt? Apparently you will otherwise encounter problems, but I'm not sure which. ( https://www.howtogeek.com/141953/how-to-encrypt-your-android-phone-and-why-you-might-want-to/ ) PW

When I started the encryption, the encryption screen shows up for a couple of seconds, then it reboots and the Mi screen shows up and stays there. No indication that anything is happening. When I force reboot after a while (60 min?), however, the device starts fine asking for the encryption code before completing the reboot and shows to be encrypted in the end. Device was not rooted and works fine after encryption as well. No noticeable difference.

Thx, pndwal, you think, that could fix the encryption issue? Someone encrypted the pad with normal behaviour (normal encryption screen throughout the process)? I can confirm that my device shows as not certified.

I'm using this rom for about a week, I had no problems, I have a 4 pad LTE and the sim (in Italy) works perfectly. I await the gestures and facial recognition that are very useful in everyday use. Thank you for your work.

I doubt it has anything to do with encryption, but not sure. No Google certification will prevent certain apps loading, etc.

I read earlier Google has a web page to apply to certify devices for those running custom ROMs (ie. add such devices to a white list) to allow gapps to run on them. This was after they started actively blocking GApps (as they are proprietary) on such uncertified (normally Chinese) devices. Policy may well have changed since then, and the method to fix I cited was new to me.

Some History (for interests sake):

Certification requirement is understandable with recent proliferation of Chinese devices that were being marketed with side loaded GApps, (or with instructions on how to load them after purchase) which are proprietary and closed source software (of course, any manufacturer is free to load base Android Apache licenced OS), and Google has been been generous to development & custom OS community by providing ways to load proprietary Google Apps on the very uncertified devices on which OEMs had been unscrupulously circumventing Google policy to save money.

I think Google realises the beneficial relationship they have with the development community, and that they very nearly shot themselves in the foot when they first issued a cease-and-desist to Steve Kondik (aka CyanogenMod) for bundling GApps in CM. He concluded CM was then 'dead', but Google clarified that GApps could still be sideloaded by END USER ONLY, be packaged SEPARATELY to custom ROM, and as long as these existed as separate download to be flashed discretely, could be hosted for said purpose by likes of OpenGApps.Org. This meant Kondik still had a job and CM had a new lease of life, and Kondik's baby eventually sired the Lineage OS we know and love today.

Google could very easily have killed all that, and also have said 'Tough Luck' to anyone looking for alternative (custom) ways to put Google Apps on uncertified devices, but they didn't, and this, short of publishing their proprietary source code (like any company would do that!), is, to a very large degree, what makes Android the more versatile, desirable, customisable, and attractive phone OS that it is. Kudos to Google for their discretion and understanding of the importance of this relationship.

Anyway, did you have any issues with encryption since setup process? PW

@rcstar6696, you may know / wish to know this:

And now, XDA Recognized Contributor @AndyYan has released an unofficial LineageOS 17 GSI.

https://www.xda-developers.com/unof...i-released-project-treble-compatible-devices/

https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...lopment/gsi-lineageos-17-0-gsi-archs-t4004673

This unofficial LineageOS 17 GSI offers a more customized and user-friendly version of the Android 10 GSI released last month. This new GSI should boot on any Android device that supports Project Treble, which means most devices that launched with Android 8.0+. (Read Mi Tab 8 (/plus), etc).

I guess it may help with this project. PW

Screen always on

Hi there,
Thanks so much for this ROM - it's really great! I've been having one issue though I hoped you could help with. When I set my screen lock to "none" (i.e. no security) the screen keeps waking up as soon as it sleeps. It means the battery is drained really quickly. Wondering if anyone has a fix for this?
Cheers,
Luke

I'm running this with SELinux enforcing enabled, and it seems just as stable so far!

Also, voice calls (W/ speaker, headset, BT) incl. VoLTE are working in LOS 17.0 'out of the box'. I'm impressed! PW

You can use an app named "shelter" to create a work profile, then you are able to use "dual apps"

Hi,
I'm interested!
Could you share how you enforced selinux?
SELinuxModeChanger on FDroid. (Simple boot up state toggler, although Google don't like it!)

Avoid the side-loaded SELinux mode Magisk modules unless you're sure what they do. One or two mess up many settings, and these are still broken after removal of systemless module. - Guess that's why topjohnwu removed them from repository. PW

dual app in this rom???
Don't think so but 'Shelter' is apparently on FDroid too. PW
