  • Download the provided lineage recovery! ( Others will not work! And encryption only works properly with the provided lineage recovery! )
  • Flash recovery with Odin/Heimdall or whatever way
  • go to Wipe > format data/factory reset - This will wipe your INTERNAL storage, so please back up your important files before doing this!
  • Go to Apply update > install it
  • It will say that signature verification is failed, just choose install anyway
  • OPTIONAL: Install gapps
  • Enjoy!
But i realy recommend beyond!

For those of you who want 120Hz refresh rate, I found a way.
I used this app (needs root):

Then found com.sec.settings and expanded the group, then found (use the search) "Settings$HighRefreshRatesSettingsActivity"

If you long press that activity, you can create a shortcut tile in your apps tray.

Enjoy

(BTW I have zero affiliation to that app developer, so all credits to them)

I have a problem with my S20+ it's the SM-G985F , the camera doesn't work. I get a message saying Warning , camera failed. I tried reflashing 3 times and I even tried with the Thunderstorm kernel and it's always the same outcome.

Edit: I reflashed my phone back to original software and then back to only BR, nothing else alongside it and I found out that after I flash Thunderstorm kernel, the camera goes bad. Is there a way to fix this? I really want to keep the kernel because battery life is so much better and the phone feels a bit more snappier.

Did you pay for his latest kernel or use the free one?

Free one is one version old, so not compatible with BR4.5, wrong bootloader.

Check out his the telegram on OP, or find his GitHub and build the kernel for your firmware if you're capable.
(Maybe check the build.prop edits, some of them aren't relevant since 3G was new...)

No, I didn't pay for his kernel. I didn't even know that you can buy it, I saw some complaints on his posts about buying it and I was like "Well, it's on xda sooooo ????" .

Well, I'll buy it because I can't build my own firmware. Maybe I'll give it a try.

Thank you for your answer!

No problem.

Yes, some people complain about charging money for open source software, but I don't mind. I bought it. I like the tweaks, ...most of them anyway.

Two more questions.

When I send the money, when I put that I send 2 euros, it says that the recipient gets 1,95 usd. Is it alright if I send it like this?

And I have to put my username in the "What's this payment for?" thing?

Ummm. I changed it so that the recipient received the right amount.
And yeah, he messaged me on PayPal after because he couldn't find me in the telegram group, because my privacy settings were too high.
I recommend joining the telegram group first if you haven't already. He is in that group, and I'm sure he would be happy to advise you about payment.

Is there a chance the cable got bumped while the transfer was happening?
Download the Samsung smartswitch PC app just incase you soft brick it. (Instructions on this site somewhere).
It shouldn't take that long.
Also, get rid of that ODIN, and use one from this post:
Hope it helps

Around the world
Honestly, I'd recommend going to 4.5 as the first step of troubleshooting.
What baseband are you on?
Also, start with a good backup. I recommend swift. Apparently titanium is outdated, and apks often don't reinstall right. But I haven't used it.
Thanks, I'll have to wait for next week to do upgrade. BasebanD is FVDB. For backup i have titanium & swift, swift works ok-ish but doesnt restore some apps so I have to combine titanium, swift and manual backup.

Why are you using Titanium Backup...uggghhhh, that horrible kludgy thing has been borking backups since Android was invented. The first paid app i ever regretted buying. I went on to use MyBackup Pro for years without issues.

Heres something free that actually works (for almost everyone, and for me for years now)

and heres how i use it for ease of use and sanity purposes

Note: Migrate requires root (Magisk) to backup and restore, as it backs up apps AND app data (oh and permissions, call logs/SMS etc)

Initial Setup (only needed once)

  1. Install (if you dont have them already):

Migrate Main app (v4.0 - NG): (Note: Play Store has v5, which is buggy at time of writing, as in its never created a working backup for me as of 13/01/2023)
    Migrate Flasher module (v3.0)
    Migrate Helper Module
    : (v4.0)
Note: ALL the above files are now attached to this post as the Play and other links show later versions which have issues and are very much beta, and so the previous versions have become hard to find easily
  1. Then open MyAPK, locate and backup to /sdcard/Migrate (this only needs to be done once, to backup the files):

    Migrate Flasher Module
    Migrate Helper Module
Note: You dont need to keep a copy of the main Migrate app, because that will be included of course in your backup

Backup process:

  1. Create a backup in Migrate
  2. Copy the /sdcard/Migrate folder off device for extra safe keeping, in case you HAVE to format /data when installing new ROM

Restore process (after creating a backup each time):

  1. Flash ROM as per usual
  2. Install Magisk
  3. If you did have to format data during ROM flash, copy the Migrate folder back to /sdcard
  4. Go to /sdcard/Migrate folder and install:

    Migrate Helper Module
    Migrate Flasher Module

  5. Run Migrate Flasher Module after install, and flash zips (make sure to select all, scroll to check you have selected all)
  6. At completion it will ask you to open Migrate Helper Module, which will be already installed, open it and flash the apps you want to restore
  7. Finalize/Uninstall
  8. Device will reboot

Setup ROM settings as usual

Re-login into apps that need logging in

Life is easy

Note:

Not every app will seamlessly make the migration and run like it did pre migration....case in point, i never tick the data column (centre column) for Samsung Wear, Health or Health Monitor, or my banking apps - i log in to all again after migration. After a while you will figure out which apps to untick data on and just login to those once migrated - it will save you having to clear data on them post migration. Migrate remembers which apps you have selected and or not selected, and which columns you have selected between backups. So make sure if youre doing a backup to check you have ticked any new apps since last backup.

ok am I being thick?

I've read through the majority of comments and might have missed something so apologies..

When I tried to flash I get "please update your firmware to at least G98xyXXSEFVE6 before flashing"

I've flashed "SM-G981B_BTE_G981BXXSEFVE6_fac" stock rom beforehand.
I don't get it lol

I last installed a custom rom about 10 years ago. I followed the instructions but it has become such a hassle to install. It would be helpful if ALL the download links are in the same place, there is a section to download the ROM and Recovery but when yo read instructions you see there is additional items to download. The Tar file that I created isnt working when I use Odin, which brings me to another issue, the slot mentioned in the instructions is nowhere to be found on Odin so where do I put the Tar file? I have failed but I have come to far to quit so I will keep looing around for a video that will explain in in dumb dumb language.

    select your model ->

then choose between europe and americas

    1678913262579.png

    download the twrp .img file

    1678913424347.png

excract the file and rename it to recovery.img

    1678913458343.png

-> Download and extract the vbmeta file

-> Select both files: recovery.img and vbmeta.img and create a new file using 7zip

you need to deinstall your magisk first. flash magisk zip via twrp. after that install the apk. i had the same problem. dont worry your moduls dont get deinstalled. I used Magisk 25.2 original - zip and apk.

    Magisk 25.2 .zip - https://www.mediafire.com/file/yy7i38rubgb6alr/Magisk-v25.2.zip/file
    Magisk 25.2 apk - https://www.mediafire.com/file/hnbskzpy6byae4c/Magisk-25.2%2825200%29.apk/file

    Thx
I fixed it, it was Magisk Canary casing the problem, I properly installed Magisk again and used regular Magisk app and all went fine afterwards.

    Thanks for the job.

I followed the instructions and it was updated without problems.

I installed magisk afterwards from twrp.

    Installation procedure

IS MANDATORY TO BE ON ANDROID 13 HWAK/HWB1 FW BEFORE FLASHING BR 61 !!!

Dirty flash of BR 6.1 over any Android 12 BR will brick your device !!!

    0) Backup ALL your important files to PC, ext drives, etc

    1) Download and copy the latest BR ROM zip into your external storage or USB stick if you're on stock fw encrypted

    2) Download HWB1 stock FW for your phone model using Frija or Samfw and unpack it on your PC

    3) Boot in download mode (Vol Up + Vol Down + plug the USB cable connected already to PC) and load up Odin on PC
Don't use USB adapters otherwise you might get issues flashing FW in Odin
Turn off Auto Reboot in Odin

    4) Select files BL, AP, CP & HOME_CSC (keep data)
    **do not start flash yet

    5) Download latest compatible TWRP for your specific device from the official TWRP xda thread (link above), rename it to recovery.img. Download the patched vbmeta.img file from below. Using 7Zip app add the 2 files (recovery.img and vbmeta.img) into a .tar file.

    6) Add the above twrp + vbmeta patched.tar file into the USERDATA slot in Odin

    7) Uncheck the auto reboot option in Odin and start the flashing

    8) When flashing completes (keep usb plugged in !!!), hold Vol Down + Power buttons and then as soon as the screen goes black hold Vol Up + Power buttons to boot to recovery
*be warned first time you boot into recovery it will initialize and then reboot so just keep the buttons Vol Up + Power buttons pressed longer
**if you boot in stock FW, your data will be encrypted and you'll need to wipe your data before flashing BR 3.x

    9) When boot in TWRP, wipe your data if you're encrypted, flash BR 5.x zip and then reboot to system

    10) After the first boot, install Magisk Manager if necessary; when you'll start Magisk Manager for the first time, reply with YES (agree to reboot) after MM have setup your root environment
*after reboot, go to Magisk Manager settings and toggle On Zygisk

    10) Enjoy....

    1. Backup to PC all your important files: documents, pictures, contacts, SMS, etc. BEFORE starting to flash anything
    2. If you have issues booting the ROM, try the clean flash
    3. To boot into TWRP you need to use a USB cable connected to PC (same for DL mode) or a USB stick
