Can we just not be afraid to try this ROM out?

Sent from my MB886 CM10.2/4.3.1
It isn't that afraid to try, but instead I'm searching for a new rom to use with those issues away.

Is it me or this rom doesn't vibrates when pressing the softkeys?
Also i've found that the volume on this rom is WAY to high even on 1.

This ROM is based off of another ROM. http://www.linuxmobile.org/atrix/atrix if the feature is listed there and is working, it will work.
I believe I have a previous version of this rom. Can I just update this with a dirty update or should I do a full wipe.
The version currently linked in my OP --- CM10 4.1.2 SuperLite V8 --- is the original version, though as I mentioned earlier, I am working on a modest update to SuperLite as time permits.

SuperLite is partially based on epinter’s CM10, but is primarily based on vincom’s SuperLite V8 for the SGS2 Skyrocket (please refer to my OP).

Since this is a ROM port across manufacturers (Samsung to Motorola), it was necessary to use key files from a stable CM10 build, and epinter's CM10 was the best choice for me.

Please refer to my OP for a summary of known problems.

A ROM port across manufacturers is a tedious (and sometimes dirty) process which may cause features that did work on the original platform (Samsung SGS2) to not work on the target platform (Atrix 4G).

Here is the link to vincom’s SuperLite ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886009

And here is a guide to porting ROMs: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1908008

I hope this clarifies ;)

I'm trying this rom, and iniatilly I can say that looks really good, but I have a question, don't know if somebody has asked before, but I can't install Whatsapp plus, after uninstalling Whatsapp and installing Whatsapp plus it says that can not install and that I should uninstall Whatsapp, but it's already uninstalled, some Ideas? Thanks in advance.

Best greetings

Hi,

I would first uninstall WhatsApp, reboot and install: http://www.whatsapp.com/faq/android/20950581
Or try this: http://gizmostorm.com/two-whatsapp-on-one-phone-without-root/

Hopefully one of these will work. If not, repeat uninstall (if necessary) then reboot to recovery and wipe cache and/or data --- though wiping data may be overkill. Then reboot and try (re)installing.

IF:
  • You don't want to wipe data AND
  • You are familiar with Android Debug Bridge (ADB) and basic Unix commands AND
  • You don't mind risking undesirable behavior such as loss of your previous chat sessions
you could try removing any files containing the string "whatsapp". Here is what I show before installing WhatsApp (free) and after uninstalling it:

Code:
C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools>adb shell
[email protected]:/ $ su
[email protected]:/ # find . -name *whatsapp*
./data/data/com.android.vending/cache/thmb_com.whatsapp
[email protected]:/ #

find . -name *whatsapp* -exec ls -ld {} \;
-rw------- u0_a35 u0_a35 5691 2014-09-09 16:07 thmb_com.whatsapp
From the owner/permissions settings, this file is not owned by root and is fairly well locked down, so you may need to first change owner to root and then remove it.

But as I alluded to above, this file may contain data you don't want to lose.

Then try (re)installing WhatsApp :)

@sendust7

Thanks for the recomendation, I'm going to try the first one, adding the reboot and after installing Whatsapp plus, I don't know if you're familiarized with Whats app plus, it's a mod of Whatsapp with a lot of options for personalization, that's the one that I can't install, playstore Whatsapp is working ok.

Anyway again thanks for your help, I let you know the result.

Best greetings

P.S. Waiting for the new version of your rom, excellent work

Edit: Solved

Es file explorer after uninstalling Whatsapp offers to delete the Whatsapp folder, in the past occasions I said yes, this time I keeped it, and there wasn´t any problem installing Whatsapp plus.

Edit 2:

I'm having some random reboots, I think it's a kernel issue, but not sure, maybe I'm just being extremely nitpicker, it happens with doing nothing with the phone, when it's just standing over the table, that's why I'm a little bit amazed, it happened with the KitKat rom that I've installed, but with that rom were at least 2 reboots each hour.

I'm back on SuperLite Rom now with this latest BlueSleep Fix, battery life has improved in standby mode. Overall, it's responsive and running the MapFactor Navigator with offline USA maps, Atrix 4G being used as a backup phone as it has no data plan - used it yesterday for a 3 hour trip in 2 states, plus previously for short local ones - all without error or FC'd. It's good enough for occassional use if for some reasons, I forget to take my N5 along.

It updated to Hangouts v2.3 by itself, which was suprisingly nice as I was ready to sideload it. Went to Play Store to add the Hangout Dialer. But, it FC'd on the device when I swipe to accept or answer incoming HO voice or video calls, or, when I tried to dial out.

Anyone else using this & notice the error popping up ? Solutions or workaround :fingers-crossed:

Wifi Tether Fixed / Fastboot Option Added [28 Sep 2014]

SuperLite V8 Wifi Tether Fixed / Fastboot Option Added!
Works on my AT&T Atrix 4G :)

Screenshots:

Download:
framework-res-new.apk: http://www.mediafire.com/download/acd19seen33453j/framework-res-new.apk

For wifi tether fix, there is a small issue that I haven’t resolved yet: wifi must first be switched OFF; else wifi tether must be cycled once and then once again to stay on. For wifi tether, go to Settings > Data Usage More.. > Tethering and portable hotspot > Portable Wi-Fi hotspot.

Test the hotspot with your computer or other wifi-capable device. Remember that wifi hotspot uses your phone’s data plan ;)

Note that in the “Reboot” menu I replaced “Download” with “Fastboot” which I think is more useful. Note also that the word “fastboot” will not appear on the splash screen as it would if fastboot were launched from cold start --- via PWR + VOL buttons. You can verify that your phone is in fastboot mode by connecting it via USB to a fastboot-enabled computer and entering “fastboot devices”.

Preliminaries:
  • Sorry, the download is not a flashable zip --- and the instructions are somewhat geeky and adventurous.
  • You must have an adequately charged phone, USB cable, correct USB driver and ADB (Android Debug Bridge) installed.
  • MAKE SURE that the /system partition you mount in the instructions below contains SuperLite! Else when you flash framework-res, your phone may soft brick or boot loop.
Instructions:
Ensure all commands are entered exactly as shown. If you are not comfortable with these instructions, please STOP HERE… I plan to update SuperLite with this and other fixes/features near term ;)

Code:
Download framework-res-new.apk to your computer
Connect phone to computer via USB
Boot phone to recovery
From computer, launch a command window and navigate to downloaded files.
From command window, enter:
adb devices (optional: verify connection via ADB)
adb shell mount /sdcard
adb push framework-res-new.apk /sdcard
adb shell

Install framework-res.apk (see important Note at bottom):

#mount /system
#cd /system/framework

Backup existing framework (important --- in case something goes wrong):
#mv framework-res.apk framework-res.apk.bak

Push framework to /system partition:
#cp /sdcard/framework-res-new.apk framework-res.apk

Set owner/permissions and reboot:
#chown root:root framework-res.apk
#chmod 0644 framework-res.apk
#reboot
Note (this is also important!): If you have dual-boot on your Atrix 4G and are running SuperLite on SD card, your /system partition is probably hosted on SD ext3[4] device: /dev/block/mmcblk1p2. In that case, use the following mount command:

Code:
mount –t ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 /system
If you have problems with this modified framework-res.apk, you can remove it and restore your original framework-res.apk from backup. Just repeat the initial steps above as necessary (recovery mode, adb shell, mount system partition etc.) and then:

Code:
cd /system/framework
rm framework-res.apk
mv framework-res.apk.bak framework-res.apk
reboot
No need to reset owner/permissions here since the move command “mv” carries over the original owner/permissions.

Blessings. Enjoy!

I duplicated the behavior and MAY HAVE fixed the problem. Behavior that other users have reported may stem from different problems.

First I installed Calendar+Sync from the SuperLite V8 Addons flashable zip linked in my OP: http://www.mediafire.com/?21dn8v8p60di422

Then I entered a Gmail Calendar event on my computer.

Then I did… Settings > Accounts > Google > {[email protected]} > Calendar {sync is OFF} press check and got "syncing now…{Last synced dd/mm/yyyy

But although SuperLite Calendar appeared to sync, it did not show the new event.

So I did this…Calendar > Menu > Settings > {[email protected]} and ensured that the check box to right of {myusern[email protected]} was checked.

Then I deleted the test event on my computer and SuperLite Calendar synced.

Then I entered a second event for a different date and SuperLite Calendar synced again.

Then I entered a third event on SuperLite Calendar, exited and reentered Gmail Calendar on my computer and Gmail Calendar synced.

Then I deleted the third event from Gmail Calendar and SuperLite Calendar synced.

Hope this helps :)

---sendust7
Ha ha ha! It worked for me.
I couldn't figure out why my calendar wasn't syncing (I use aCalendar+) and after reading your post, I realized I didn't have the Superlight V8 addons installed, so I downloaded them, flashed the calendar+sync addon in the Aroma installer, followed your instructions and it worked perfectly.

I gave my brother my Nexus 4 before he moved out of state so he could have a reliable phone, and I'm so pleased to find my old Atrix 4G still has support.

I have enjoyed this rom very much, however I have had certain lag issues and force closes that I blame more on my phone than the rom. My wifi and bluetooth have not worked in quite a while. I found a thread that said to basically flash the stock image back on it and it would re-load the drivers which should fix that if its a software issue, which it fixed for about 20 minutes. Back on topic, recently my touch screen would become non-repsonsive, sometimes for a few minutes sometimes for a few hours, but it always started working again. Well the latest is going on a week now. I went in to recovery and when I do a key test, the home, back and other touch screen buttons work normally so I am thinking there is a problem/conflict with the rom at this point. I am considering a factory reset and re-flash but hate that I cant back my data up and will lose quite a bit of stuff. I have a nandroid but that only goes so far. Knowing my touch buttons work in recovery, and doing a cache wipe/reinstall of this rom has not solved my problems, where do I look next? Should I try installing a different rom, or stock image (if thats possible at this point)? Really want to keep using this rom, at least until someone comes out with a new phone that I cant live without out (not currently excited about AT&T's offerings right now), going on 3 1/2 years and it has been a good ride.

Just wanted to say thank you for this wonderful rom. Had been using it since 2013 when I found it. It's worked great for me for a long time. Sadly I must leave it as my trusty Atrix 4G's touchscreen has almost completely failed and as such is nearly unusable. So I have had to move to a new phone (Which sadly is unrootable at the moment). Gonna miss using this rom and phone and just wanted to give my thanks for your hard work on it, and hope you keep up the good work of making awesome roms for phones, and helping to keep my Atrix usable for far longer than I thought it would be.

Thanks! I am always delighted to hear from users like you who have benefited from SuperLite.

My Atrix 4G touch screen also failed, which I attribute it to a year or so of development and experimentation

In 2013, I bought a new SGS4 which I subsequently rooted, unlocked and installed the Liquid Smooth ROM. But the phone only lasted a year and now I am back on an Atrix 4G having found a "new" one on eBay for $80.

As for SuperLite, yes I do plan to continue working on it in 2015 pending my work schedule.

Thanks again! :)

You might have a new kernel to work with. The 3.1.10 kernel has reached beta, and i will be working on getting changes brought down to the older android versions as soon as i get off orders on the 23rd

Yeah. I had mine since 2011 when it came out. The top and bottom portions of the touch screen became unresponsive recently to the point where most tasks were a pain to complete (Especially when the phone decided to just think I was touching the screen and start scrolling and selecting things on it's own).

I am now on a Motorola Moto G 4G ATT Variant which sadly cannot be rooted at the moment. Wasn't the phone I wanted to go with (Was eying a Galaxy S5 non ATT variant through a third party ATT reseller. But sadly ATT would have gouged our monthly rate severely if we went with anything other than the lowest end android they sell). Am hoping it gets rooted. Is really annoying going from a rooted device to a non rooted one. So many little annoyances, not to mention the TON of pre-installed, non removable apps (My count 38 pre-installed apps on mine).

Glad to hear you plan to keep developing for the Atrix. Was looking forward to that new update. Keep up the excellent work!

Wow, hello there & much appreciated/obliged - thank you. That's super cool to read/hear - count me in as a "happy camper" to check out your next update, my Atrix isn't going anywhere - been using it for 9 months now as backup/spare. (Just made some comments about someone else's battery life - http://forum.xda-developers.com/atrix-4g/help/epinter-cm10-rom-drain-battery-t2974470#post57617970)
