Just upgraded from stock 4.4.4 to OctOS 5.1.1 (still installing gapps as I type this).
Saw this error a couple of times while flashing in TWRP: error sending message to remove storage 65537

Noticed that shutdown takes a bit longer than stock.
The good part is bootloader is still unlocked and I have root intact.

I noticed that there is no way to get network strength on the status bar. How can I get that feature? Overall, network settings is a bit limited. You have only LTE, 3G and 2G if you were to make a choice.
How do I go about with XPOSED?
Welcome to the club. I don't remember seeing that error message. What were you expecting for network settings? My choices are actually LTE, 3G, 1x, or Global. Odd.

I just installed Xposed yesterday.

1. Download xposed-sdk22-arm-20150514.zip from [ALPHA] [UNOFFICIAL] Xposed for Android 5.1 - API v64 / Alpha 4 / 20150514
2. Download XposedInstaller_3.0-alpha*.apk from [OFFICIAL] Xposed for Lollipop
3. Put both on your internal storage.
4. Reboot into Recovery and make a backup of your entire device
5. From Recovery, flash xposed-sdk22-arm-20150514.zip
6. Turn your phone back on and install XposedInstaller_3.0-alpha*.apk
7. Use {Discussion} & Lists of Working and Non-Working Xposed Modules For 5.1 Lollipop as a reference to install modules for Xposed.

*Note: Any module not on that list just means it hasn't been tested/reported. And just because they work in 5.1 doesn't mean they'll work on 5.1.1 or on your device, so be ready to bootloop and have to use your backup to recover.

I personally have installed:
Statusbar Download Progress 1.6
AutoInstaller 1.1
Lock screen clock mods 0.93
True Silent Mode 2.7
Burnt Toast 1.2
Pandora Patcher 3.6.1 with Pandora 5.6.1

Thanks for those details. I was looking for an automatic mode 2G/3G as well.
I am trying to figure out how to put the phone into vibrate mode, and then how to put it back to normal mode.
I cannot seem to find any easy toggle.
Will look at Xposed sweeten I find some more time.

Edit: The icons for all apps are quite big. How do I reduce them?

I cannot get past "checking connection" screen after installation. Any ideas?
I'm stuck at this, too. Did you find a solution? I've tried reinstalling 4 different times, using two different gapps packages. I tried skipping the connection step, but it won't let me add my Google account, keeps saying it can't establish a reliable connection (even though my Internet works fine on it).

EDIT: Nevermind, I guess all I had to do was post that I couldn't get it to work, and it started working! I don't have any idea what I did or didn't do, but it seems to be working now.

Yep I did find a solution. Download CM Downloader from google store, go into setting and download Gapps from there. Flash that version.

I had the same issue too. Then I installed Banks Gapps and it worked fine

So far, the phone is rock stable. Nothing has crashed. And that is an indicator of a mature ROM. I have to admit, I have not used the device for anything more than browsing, social media and phone calls.

What I am missing?
While the screen is on, if I connect a charger, there is no way to figure out that the phone is charging (example, if bad cable is connected you cannot find that out soon enough). The battery icon animation does not work.
Active display works, but this is a bit different from what Motorola provided. So, I am still trying to get used to this.

How do I get the "OK Google Now" functionality back? E.g. Earlier, I could just say: "Ok Google Now, call wife"
I am missing Motorola Assist now. Phone does not read out the caller while I am at home. Some people are using tasker, but I have not looked at that one.
Vibrate mode: Is there an easy way to put the phone to vibrate mode while at office. There is no easy way to toggle between vibrate/ silent/ normal mode.
Network information. There is no built in way to determine the signal strength of your network from About Phone screen. I use apps now to do that.
Circle widget is gone. It looks like the character of Droid Maxx is a bit lost without it. :(

Battery doctor provides the profiles of silent mode/ vibration etc for different time in a day which can be customized according to your needs and it will also allow you to extend battery life.

Seems to be pretty solid for me as well after about a day. Only rebooted on me once, I had the flashlight on for a couple minutes and I guess it caused it to reboot. I also am having to adjust to active notifications, doesn't seem as responsive as Moto's. Battery charge indicator works fine for me, I'm using circle icon with percentage. Really liking it so far, just still getting used to it.

Active display does seem a bit less responsive, and I especially miss just being able to poke the proximity sensor and have it light up with my notifications.
"OK Google Now" functionality can be set up. I think it's in the Google Settings app. Go to Search and Now, Voice, "Ok Google" detection. I have it turned on for 'From the Google app', 'From any screen', and "Personal results." You can also retrain the voice model here.
Tasker is one of the best apps out there for many reasons.. probably your best bet for reading out caller info, or even making shortcuts to your home screen for vibe/silent/normal modes. For that last part, I installed Xposed and True Silent Mode 2.7, and then just use the volume rockers to go down to vibe/silent, and can hit the button to drop down your media/alarm volumes if you need to change those too, as well as set priority mode.

So, am I to understand the "Active Display" you guys are talking about is really googles "Ambient Display" and not moto's version?

Are touchless controls available? (i.e., OK Google Now with the screen off works or no?).

I would love to flash a 5.1 ROM on my Maxx, but don't think I can go without moto's active display and touchless commands, they are just too convenient to give up!

I noticed the same thing, came across a setting in Gravity Box (through Xposed) about waking the device with proximity sensor, once I set it, it seems to be more responsive but it may just be my imagination. It's under Power Tweaks near the bottom, called Proximity wake-up (use proximity sensor to help decide whether to wake device up).

Yes, Ambient Display. I haven't figured out how to get "OK Google" to work with the screen off, but it can be used to unlock the screen if it's at the lock screen. There's also a setting that leads me to believe you can use "OK Google" from a bluetooth or wired headset with the screen off, but I haven't tested it.

Would there be any way to get the volume slider moved to underneath the Quick Settings, and be able to have Ringer/Media/Alarm volume sliders down there as well?

Been using for a couple of weeks, seems rock solid until about three days ago. I can't stay connected to LTE, keeps dropping to 3G, and it's burning through my battery big time looking for/trying to connect to towers. Not sure if this is ROM related or a Verizon issue, though. Like another user, it almost always shows the network I'm connected to as a sequence of numbers, usually 000000. I may have to go back to stock over this tower/battery drain, love this ROM, though.

UPDATE: Looks like it may have been a sim card issue. Replaced sim and so far seems to be back to normal.

Droid Maxx finally has another ROM!!

Thank you so much for this. It is sad that a Developer Edition device has so little development. Thank you for breathing life back into my Maxx.
this rom runs great. are there any plans to update it OP?

Yep, I use GPS weekly.
I am wondering if I should somehow try and 're-install' this ROM.

Should I wipe cache, dalvik-cache and something else?

I am missing the ability to put the phone into silent mode after 11 PM till 7 AM. This was achieved by Motorola Assist in the stock ROM.
Right now, I am manually putting the phone into vibrate mode (by pressing the vol - key), but I tend to forget about this when I wake up in the morning.

Also, OK Google Now, does not work at all.

You shouldn't need to wipe anything else:
OP said:
The Oct-L ROM installation script will automatically wipe /system, /cache, and /data/dalvik-cache
but I don't think it would hurt to try wiping those three before flashing the ROM.

You could easily make a Tasker task to put your phone into silent mode from 11PM to 7AM. If you'd like to and need help, I could make one and share it or tell you how.

Tbh, I've noticed Google Now doesn't hear me nearly as often as it did with stock Moto. You have to go into your Google Settings to turn it on and set up the voice recognition though. Have you done that and it still isn't working?

On 16 June, I had made a nandroid backup of 4.4.4 stock (it was rooted and with bootloader unlocked) and then installed OctOS 5.1.1.

Today, I installed Exodus since OctOS gave me a problem with GPS. With Exodus, I have the same GPS problem.
One solution I read was to flash stock again.
Now, I can see a backup of 4.4.4 SU6-7.2 which I can restore via TWRP.
It give me three check boxes - System/ Data/ Boot.

All of them are selected by default. Is it OK to restore all three of them?
I am worried about bricking the device or loosing boot loader's unlocking.
