Thanks for the quick response. Inundated at work lately so just getting back 'round to this...

The situation I'm in is that, currently, when I reboot to Cyanogenmod recovery, the items available are:
Reboot system now
Apply update
Factory reset
Advanced

If I select Advanced, I see:
Reboot to download mode
View recovery logs
Power off

There's nothing to effect of "Install zip", for instance, hence none of the SuperSU packages install. Am I completely missing some setting? If I try using "Apply update", the package starts to install, but this is where I get the failure during "updating SEpolicy" and it aborts the process.

So, with regard to TWRP recovery: how can I get this installed to then allow installation of the SuperSU package? Or, am I on the wrong track completely?

Download the md5 tar for odin and flash or if u have root dl flashfire from play store and install zip. In CyanogenMod you need to go to dev options and enable root for apps CyanogenMod comes rooted but myst be enabled

I suppose Odin may be the answer. I'll locate the "how to" and giver 'er a try when I have a little more time to spare.
Again though, as a newbie, am I missing something (hidden perhaps?) in the dev options?? I see nothing that states "enable root", or anything even closely resembling that. The root checker app I have also indicates not rooted.

A thank you to hilla_killa and all previous responders (and Odin, and TWRP and SuperSU ;) ).

Downloaded Odin, Samsung USB drivers, latest TWRP and SuperSU. Installed accordingly and Voila! Rooted again. Very quick, Very effective. Very cool!

So, lastly (for the moment): I keep seeing that dev options should have a "enable root". The device is definitely rooted now and operating as such. However, I see nowhere in dev options an "enable / disable root" toggle. I can enable/disable superuser within SuperSU, but nothing under dev options. I'm guessing this is just something not included with this ROM??

Galaxy S3 Running:
ResurrectionRemix-M-v5.7.2-20160806-d2spr
Build: Marshmallow 6.0.1_r61 - MOB30Z
Kernel: [email protected] #1

You're running an old build btw. I uploaded one about a week ago it should be RR-v5.7.4
And it doesn't have an enable root option because the devs at RR didn't include CM's root

Oh my! Look what released today RR NOUGAT
If only we had someone to port this to our devices ;)
Just "might" happen eventually... once things progress a bit more 😎😉

I know of a few others that are gonna attempt to keep this device kicking a little while longer. CM "is" still working on d2. You can see it in their 14.1 change log so that's good news ;) The guy that did these RR M builds is a good friend of mine & he doesn't give in easily. I'm sure he'll give it a shot once he feels the time is right 😁

Just installed, and running smooth! Thank you! For those having trouble, a couple things I noticed... Odin is your friend! Flashing from recovery locked me up. Philz or CWM will likely have problems. Be sure to use TWRP.
I started with a full wipe then flashing stock from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal.../stock-l710vpudnj2-pc-odin-flashable-t3007847
Update profile and PRL next. This got me a fresh start after using CM and Philz. Then install TWRP, also with Odin, Then CF Auto Root - with Odin again!
Then Flash the ROM and Open GApps ARM 6.0 Stock (or smaller, don't try the Aroma installer) with Odin (seeing a pattern here?) I had to reflash TWRP at the end with Odin also as the stock recovery was replaced when flashing CF AutoRoot.
All in all the process went smoothly, and the end result is worth it! I'm using this as a backup office phone using hangouts with google voice for calling/sms/mms so I can't comment on mobile data, but using wifi to make calls/etc with hangouts or the hangouts dialer works flawlessly. If you go this route be sure to make hangouts and hangouts dialer your default programs for calling and sms.
As I'm sure you all know, I am only sharing my experience here and am in no way responsible for your phone. When in doubt, read. read. read. And then after reading some more, ask questions!
Now it's time for testing!

Thanks to all involved for keeping our Old School S3 alive!

Anyone know if this ROM supports OMS and Masquerade? Wanting to try out Substratum because I haven't had the best of luck with Cyanogen theme engine themes
