No can do, not even with any safestrap.
That's what I was afraid of........argh. This is the wife's phone, and she loves her Maxx but she's also VERY PICKY and wants ever phone she gets to look exactly the same, plus doesn't want to lose her game levels, saved files, etc.....and it works as long as I keep her rooted and use Titanium Backup. I've kept her on 4.2.2 since it was first rooted, and would like to be able to update her to 4.4.x as she's starting to have some issues, but don't want to lose root. Is there a simple way to do this? Sorry, I just can't find a quick answer to this question. I don't deal with Motorolas much, I'm rocking an LG G3 and Note 3 right now :(

Unlocked with sunshine and followed all the steps but can't get TWRP install. Install 2.7.1.1-ghost, is that the right version? fastboot says it installs fine, says "done" on computer and phone, but when I try to boot to recovery it hangs at the "bootloader unlocked" warning screen and never progresses.

Should I use the 2.8 version of twrp? Is the "ghost" version right?

Thanks for all your help guys :)

Yep, you want to use 2. 8. 0. 0. Flashify is free on the Android Market, and will allow you to quickly flash a recovery image right on the phone... but is limited to 3 flashes per day.

I'm running this ROM I unfrooze Moto Ota. To see if I can get update. I know can't use this ROM I have nanoid of stock. Just wondering if there is anything debloated in this ROM that would stop it from notifying you of OTA. It keeps saying either I'm up to date or gives an error. I herd others speak of this. Thanks.

Your software version is up to date, but without all the bloatware, it sees your stock program as being compromised and will not install. Since the system partition is locked at a certain size, no matter what you do you won't get any memory back for apps. If you wants to take the OTA, you will need to either restore your stock back up, or flash the stock image from the FXZ file, and wiping it before, of course!

Thanks I'm good with that I have everything set up to go
back to stock system and recovery set up in mfast. I have the ota on root of SD. The only thing I'm concerned about is flashing OTA once I get back to bone stock. Earlier today I got a bug report on my phone it was the OTA. What is that all about I have got them before. I may have checked something in settings when I set the phone up any Ideas? When I go into stock recovery and find zip and hit it that's it will just flash the OTA? Thanks.

I don't know about the bug report, but if you have the raw update OTA on the root of your virtual SD card, then the stock recovery can find it and update your phone
