I've done a fresh flash, turned on art, and installed the rest of my apps. Running perfectly and very quick. fYI 91hwoverlay is still in the init.d folder. I've removed it. Also I recommend to everyone to go to developer options and change all 3 animation scales to .5, it has a really nice placebo effect of making everything snappier.

Drop bar lag?

Just flashed this on my brothers phone, looking great!(much faster than 4.1.2 touchwiz) I'm only seeing one problem, and that is the lag when pulling the drop bar down. I have tried overclocking, changing the animation scale to .75, and keeping the ram clear. I have also wiped the cache. Any idea how to fix this? Great rom, just hoping that gets fixed :)

Delete the /system/etc/init.d/91fixoverlays script and reboot ;) I'll be updating the zip today to fix that.

Hey guys, I've uploaded a new zip for Carbon. No changes other than the removal of the /system/etc/init.d/91fixoverlays script. No need to re-flash if you've already flashed, just delete the 91fixoverlays script and reboot phone. It will now be very snappy ;)

Thanks, as usual.
Flashed the ROM but found WiFi performance oddly unstable (relative to your other ROMs). It kept dropping and reconnecting. I also got a FC in WiFi advanced settings --> wifi order preference.

I'll try your CM11 and SlimKat to see if similar results.

I'm on latest recovery (Phil) and radio firmware, etc.

Thanks,

Can I get you to send me a logcat after the Wi-Fi settings force close on you. Instructions on how to do that are in the second post.

CM11 vs Carbon

How is the performance in your cm11 rom compared to this one? Also if I flash cm11 over carbon do I need to factory wipe?

Switching to this rom from Slim fixed the music scanning problem, and I'm getting very good battery life as well. However there's still a lot of screen flicker with HWoverlays on. It is very smooth, but scrolling or typing makes the screen flicker and tear.

I just want to say I am actually in disbelief of how fast my phone is now when running art instead of dalvik. Loading and exiting apps is where I notice it the most, but the entire phone is quite a bit quicker. If you want to switch I recommend doing a fresh flash then install gapps, boot, switch to art, let it do its thing, then reboot into recovery and dirty flash the rom again then install your apps. Don't know the science behind it, but when I just switched to art without the second dirty Flash I would get stuck on the boot animation. Anyway I haven't come across an app that doesn't work with art and once again the speed difference is incredible.

Is there a way to edit sysctl on this rom? Android System has been eating up most of my battery recently, about 50% of ever charge even with 2 hours screen time, and I've read certain sysctl edits could fix this problem

Not directly, but you can change values by using busybox sysctl. For help on how to use it, type this into terminal after issuing the su command:

$ busybox sysctl -h
This will show you the command line options and how to enter them. If you want your values to stick, just write the commands into an init.d script to be run on every boot.

busybox sysctl -e -w kernel.random.read_wakeup_threshold=128;
busybox sysctl -e -w kernel.random.write_wakeup_threshold=256;
Was the fix for the OS drain, from what I've read it helps with entropy levels more directly than scripts like Seeder. Different values might be better for our phone.

ECHO NO_NORMALIZED_SLEEPER > /sys/kernel/debug/sched_features;
#
ECHO NO_GENTLE_FAIR_SLEEPERS > /sys/kernel/debug/sched_features;
#
ECHO NO_NEW_FAIR_SLEEPERS > /sys/kernel/debug/sched_features;
helps with other various wakelocks. I'm trying out lifting various stuff from Crossbreeder and seeing if it improves anything.

Hello! Just to say that everything is fine, no crash, no random reboot. This ROM is my favorite. I also switched to ART and I see a difference. Sadly, the space in the phone is almost all used and I can't move anything to SD, it always tells me that the sd card is full.

I didn't have to do a dirty Flash to go with ART. Just a clean flash and everything was fine.

Trickster Mod has a sysctl editor built in that will set values upon boot. To set the sleepers, Pimp My ROM has a simple interface to do so. They also have an Entropy generator you can use. Something else I noticed is it can caculate your Random Read Wakeup Threshold as well as the Random Write wakeup Threshold. The average value detected on my device was 698bits, or in the units we need it to be in, which is 87 bytes. The Write value is 174 bytes. These values were found AFTER setting your values. So I dont know how close you need to be to these values, but 128 read and 256 write appear to be smart choices as we may have been introducing some lag into the system by starving those values. I dont know much about the sleepers, I have played with them in the past but I cant see the harm in disabling, as it seems it could help.

Nice find @formercontra
