Beta 1 CyanogenMod 7.2.0 KANG ROM for the Player 5.0 USA and INTL

Preliminary release, less problems than before.

Please note that for now I have removed the assert that was causing problems for INTL users, but this means nothing will stop you from installing this ROM on the wrong device! Please make sure you have a Galaxy Player 5.0 USA or INTL before installing this ROM!

Instructions:
  • Install Entropy512's kernel if you're on stock ROM.
  • Do a backup!
  • Copy ROM to /mnt/sdcard/
  • Reboot into Recovery Mode
  • Wipe Data/Factory Reset
  • Install zip from sdcard
  • Reboot

Not that installing this ROM will automatically convert your rfs partitions to ext4 (lagfix). Except for the /efs partition which I'm scared to touch.

Known Issues:
  • Camcorder doesn't work
  • Wireless issues
  • Boot loop when plugged in to USB port while powered down

Fixed in Beta 1:
  • Camera
  • Vibration

Fixed in Alpha 2:
  • External sdcard mounts properly. By default, internal sdcard mounts as /mnt/sdcard and external sdcard mounts as /mnt/emmc. This is a better default I think since some devices may not have an external sdcard. To switch, go to Settings -> CyanogenMod settings -> Application and uncheck "Use internal storage"
  • Airplane Mode
  • Wireless seems more reliable? Not perfect..
  • Updated to Entropy512's overclocking kernel

TODO:
  • Unify with tdmcode 4.0 release if possible..
  • More testing. Please post your issues

Thanks to tdmcode for the help and Entropy512 for the kernel. Thanks also to noisyfox for the INTL fix.

I have a INTL device and I just can't wait to help you to test it! By the way, good job!
I'm porting MIUI to G70 so I'm sure I can learn a lot from your CM7 rom!
Haha, I'm so excited!

Just tried it since I was curious.. looks really cool! Seems to be working pretty well considering it's an alpha build. I've never actually seen CM7 before so that was interesting.

I'll definitely be using it once its out of alpha!

OK, I boot...But no button will work.Trying to fix this...
I'm INTL user.

Umm they don't work because you can't use this ROM. This is for U.S.A users only. Sorry. But I tested it, works FANTASTIC! Camera is a bit funny lol and everything is so smooth. ICS themes work :D Love it, great, thanks for your hard work! WiFi is also not a problem for me soo I don't know about any problems with that. One thing i do wanna mention is that GApps wasn't on here, so i downloaded that and it works just fine. It synced all my apps back in and everything is fine. THANKS!

Usa uses capacitive, not pushbutton.

I know, so I'm trying to fix it(maybe it's too hard for me).
I want to replace it's driver with rj's kernel...
But I don't know how to unpack boot.img....
I tried split_bootimg.pl but it don't work... I also tried hex editor but failed...

To recognize my SD all I did was remove it and put it back. The wifi is a problem for me. The camera is funny lol. A few apps. Are not installing properly. Installed Gapps and it seems to be working. All in all needs a few bug fixes, but this is a great ROM. oh, and the overclocking would be a nice feature to get working.

Wifi seems to be working without any issues and the camera seems to be working but the image is mirrored. Installed Gapps and the market is working again. My SD card is working normally too, although the music library seems to be non-functional.

The only issue I've come across so far is that for some reason when I installed zeam launcher it just force closes. Also just noticed that none of the capacitive button lights work.. although I'm not sure that's a bad thing.

If you have a non-USA 5.0 you can't just install this ROM and reflash the kernel, becuase the "kernel" on samsung devices contains a lot of ROM-specific files from the root filesystem (init.rc being the main one).

I need someone with a non-USA 5.0 to post the following:

outputs of:
adb shell cat /proc/mounts
adb shell ls -l /dev/block/

Then, most critically, reboot into CWM recovery and go to Advanced -> Key Test. Press all the buttons on the device and post what the key codes are (for example when you hit the Menu button it should show "Key: 139").

I've updated the ROM with a couple fixes, and also to remove the device asserts that were causing problems with some INTL ROMs.

So here is what I believe is a complete list of bugs that I have found. No vibration, capacitive buttons do not light up, although not a bad thing, wifi has a lot of issues with turning off after a while then it will not come back on, the SD card is not recognized until I physically remove it and place it back into the slot then I don't know what happens to the internal memory, there is no sound through the earpiece for making voip calls, there is no sound through the headphone jack, and the launcher crashes once in a while when I try to adjust the weather widget. The GPS seems to be working just fine aside from all of the other things. If I knew more about development I would help out, but I don't have the time to right now. Thank you again for making this ROM and I hope this helps in any way. If you need any testing for a G.P. 5.0 U.S. just ask me. I will gladly do that.

Also is there a way to get the FM radio back?

Is there a way I can edit the file like if I did an adb pull, edit, then push it back to the device?

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

No, as it's compiled object code. You could, OTOH, compile and then adb push.
