Me too, it's hot and Lag while charging
You may try 8.3.22 Firmware for better battery life

My biggest issue is the device not even installing Lineage. I'm not sure why. Would it have anything to do with using the latest Miui firmware? Because that's the only thing I can think of that I did differently here.

Edit: After the device reverts back to it's base Miui when trying to install a rom (while deleting twrp...)... I once again reinstalled TWRP, but then rebooted to see what would happen. Now it's stuck on the black loading screen with the "Mi" name in the middle... So could it be an issue with TWRP, somehow? :/ I'm using the latest gemini version...

Further Edit: It looks like it all had to do with installing the latest firmware. If I did the wipe, installed firmware, then lineage, it would crash then boot to Miui. If I installed firmware, booted normally, then went back to TWRP to do the Lineage install it seemed to work (on setup now. Hopefully all is good)

FURTHER further Edit: Root check finds my device isn't rooted. I did install the recommended addonsu with everything else, but apparently that didn't do anything. What am I missing now? :/

I've had to remove the battery twice because the phone was dead since I'm using this rom. Never happened before in LOS 14. Is it software related or faulty hardware? I'm very happy with this rom apart from this.

You are wrong. LineageOS team just added Opengapps as recommended gapps next to MindTheGapps. Check it here:
https://wiki.lineageos.org/gapps.html

I am not wrong. Read opening post. The discussion was about this device's maintainer recommendation, not general options in Los wiki.

Nothing wrong with both of you ... lol
both gapps are recommended ... but still in my experience, MindTheGapps give me less problems compare to OpenGapps with this LOS 15.1 Nightly

just use what suit you guys

Had my usb port burn out overnight whilst using last week's nightly. Whether or not the roms fault I Don't know. Everything was stock. Phone got very hot charging. Just fixed today by buying a new daughter board. Is there anyway to lower heat /current whilst charging?

you can always use regular charger (without fastcharge) to make charging slower.
i cant imagine how rom could result in overcharging since controller is strictly hardware and so is protection circuit . i bet your battery was faulty

Yes by limiting QC3 or using normal charger.
I can't understand why LineageOS still uses the unsafe charging rate (3000 mAh) where all other custom ROMs and even MIUI is limiting that to 2400 mAh

You need to enable root in System > Dev options after flashing the add-on.

Camera app cannot read QR-code with vcard data correct.
You can try (generate) it here.
Is it a bug or this error does not have nothing common with the tread LineageOS?

Is there a way of limiting current while charging? I am worried about always overheated battery while charging. 45 degrees Celsius is a dangerous level for a lithium ion battery.

any way of getting rid of the persistent notification of LineaGenuine ? setprop persist.lineage.nofool true doesn`t seem to work. I have checked the thread and no clear explanation was found on how to do it . I am on the latest build

It works, but you need to be in root terminal. Type su and grant permission, then type setprop command.

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 8.1 (Oreo), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. You will need to provide your own Google Applications package (gapps). LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

Base source code is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to the project, please visit our Gerrit Code Review.

    GPL compliance:

    • NFC
    • Bluetooth
    • Telephony (Calls and Data)

    Compatibility:
Compatible with all Xiaomi Mi 5 variants (32GB / 64GB / 128GB). Xiaomi Mi 5S and 5S Plus are not supported.
Builds are based off the Xiaomi's Android 8.0 firmware with proprietary blobs from MIUI 8.5.10 dev package.

    Downloads:

    Notice:
    • No custom kernels are supported in this thread. Only stock kernel and official builds will be supported. No bug reports if that's not the case.

    Installation:
    • Reboot to recovery (TWRP recovery for Mi 5 - Direct link)
    • Format /system, /data and /cache
    • Install LineageOS zip package
    • Install [optional] the LineageOS su addon to get root (there are obviously other root methods, but this is the recommended one as it survives to OTA updates)
    • Install [optional] a Google Apps package of your choice (Open GApps is advisable, but stock and super variants are not recommended!!!)
    Important notes:

    Credits & collaborations:
This work is due to efforts from Mi5Devs founding members (@h2o64 and me) that did the full device bring-up. Huge thanks to @deovferreira for all the help during the kernel bring-up after source code dropped. Last but not least, pleasure having @luca020400 and @LuK1337 onboard since the bring-up of the whole Xiaomi 8996 family, that lately did the major work in the O era.

Finally, all LineageOS team would like to thank everyone involved in helping with testing, coding, debugging & documenting! Enjoy!

Who wants a taste of Oreo with working camera? Grab the fresh link in the first post.

All credits goes to @highwaystar_ru for the huge help with the reverse engineering of the stock camera HAL.

First of all, happy new year everyone! :highfive:

I have just uploaded a new build with some more features ported (LiveDisplay is still broken), but the most important of all is that kernel is now based on the latest 8.1 tag and we're now using full CAF HALs (previous builds were compiled with display and media AOSP HALs). Feedback is appreciated, since this is again a major change.

Last but not least, my "new" gemini should arrive tomorrow. :D

So... Android 8.1 sources have dropped a couple days ago. :victory: Next release to be shared will hopefully be based on it (I don't expect any major issue to arise) and I'll keep using this thread. Stay tuned. ;)

New build is up. Nothing really new in terms of features, but fixed audio and front facing camera render. Enjoy!
