Got random lockups and reboots again with todays (12/11/18) build.

Edit: Possibly Magisk related, removed and so far so good...

Also got reboots, etc with the new build but I've never used magisk. I loaded the old boot.img that I used to get the 10 10 version working but still had reboots. I then loaded 10 10 with the old boot.img and all is ok again.

Stuck in Checking updates

I tried new build with opengapps pico-20181111 and stuck on startup "connect to wi-fi" screen. It says connected and then checking for updates, but after some time it`s Connect to wi-fi screen again.
Same with OpenGapps Nano-201111.

Same case here. After a while searching updates goes back to connect wi-fi!

lashed the newest update.

Positives:: Lot less random restarts and freeze.

Negatives:: Gcam got less stable after the latest update.

Verdict:: Usable as day to day device if camera is not important to you.

EDIT:::eek:h ****.

Dont update last update is broken.

Had 15.1 on my mi5 so far, tested now with all the 3 LOS 16 versions. When I install GApps togehter with LOS (after wiping system, cache and data) I got stuck on the "checking for updates" screen, after 30 secs network connection drops for a few seconds and it asks me to connect after, then "cheking for updates" again and so on.
If I install only LOS booting and first configuraiton works but I cannot restore the backupped data and apps in the cloud, so I installed GApps afterwards and get stuck with the "setup wizard keeps stopping" info which makes the setup wizard start again and again without starting really.

Any hints how to do that LOS 16 and restoring apps + data will work?

Thank you very much!!!

Can someone posts working gapps please? :)

So, I was a little bit surprised to learn that one can already dirty flash from 15.1 to 16.1 . My question is, will it also be possible to dirty flash from unofficial 16.1 to official, or will that require a clean flash?
In any case, thanks again Bruno for all the hard work, we all really really appreciate it.

Hi, I tried flashing 20181112 build over 20180928 build. Works until I try to enable encryption. Then it reboots and says it needs approx 6 minutes to encrypt. Then it reboots and goes to recovery. There it shows up password prompt, which is unsuccessful decrypting data.
Rebooting manually a couple times brings up the boot password entry, but it either freezes on "starting android" or reboots during password entry.
Then the only way is to format and restore from backup...

Format data before flashing.

Apparently encryption is not supported so formatting data removes it.

Otherwise it will keep rebooting.

TWRP>wipe>format data.

I hope it helps

I wiped everything. Installed lineage-16.0-20181114-UNOFFICIAL-gemini and open_gapps-arm64-9.0-nano-20181114 and still stuck on "Connect to Wi-Fi - Checking for updates" loop.
Which gapps should i use?

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 9 (Pie), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. You will need to provide your own Google Applications package (gapps). LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

Base source code is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to the project, please visit our Gerrit Code Review.

    GPL compliance:
    Broken / not yet supported:
    • Something must be broken, right?

    Working:
    • Camera (and flashlight)
    • WiFi
    • NFC
    • Bluetooth
    • ANT+
    • Telephony (Calls and Data)
    • Audio (Record and Playback)
    • Video Playback
    • Sensors
    • GPS

    Compatibility:
Compatible with all Xiaomi Mi 5 variants (32GB / 64GB / 128GB). Xiaomi Mi 5S and 5S Plus are not supported.
Builds are based off the Xiaomi's Android 8.0 firmware with proprietary blobs from MIUI 8.5.10 dev package.

    Downloads:

    Notice:
    • No custom kernels are supported in this thread. Only stock kernel and official builds will be supported. No bug reports if that's not the case.

    Installation:
    • Reboot to recovery (TWRP recovery for Mi 5 - Direct link)
    • Format /system, /data and /cache
    • Install LineageOS zip package
    • Install [optional] the LineageOS su addon to get root (there are obviously other root methods, but this is the recommended one as it survives to OTA updates)
    • Install [optional] a Google Apps package of your choice (Open GApps is advisable, but stock and super variants are not recommended!!!)
    Important notes:

    Credits & collaborations:
This work is due to efforts from Mi5Devs founding members (@h2o64 and me) that did the full device bring-up. Huge thanks to @deovferreira for all the help during the kernel bring-up after source code dropped. Last but not least, pleasure having @luca020400 and @LuK1337 onboard since the bring-up of the whole Xiaomi 8996 family.

Finally, all LineageOS team would like to thank everyone involved in helping with testing, coding, debugging & documenting! Enjoy!
