Hi @SkewedZeppelin! Sorry, I'm back here with another question lol.

Since the mata kernel is EOL, I was wondering if it is theoretically possible to upgrade the kernel? If all the drivers are upstreamed, could I just build a newer kernel and use the same HAL interface and vendor proprietary blobs (HAL modules)?

Or do the vendor proprietary blobs only work for a certain kernel version?

Thank you for answering these questions

Relocking works both critical and regular.
Banking and financial apps are installed and worked.
GPS does NOT work, satellites are not found. SO from Wze to here you go maps etc are useless and drive a car useless too.
On official website wrongly noted green color and written GPS works. It is a lie.

Builtin TTS , text to speech, is the mockery on human speech hearing, was replaced with VocalizerEX2.

Builtin Calendar is the mockery too, XXI century is outside but still there is no import and export manually a file in CSV or TXT format? It's beyond of my mind.

In short good try to replace old stock, but taking in account the age of the project not clear why GPS and apps issues exists. In builtin phone apps there is no masking block call feature.

It does not work after waiting 12.5 minutes too. It was reverted back to stock and voila 22 seconds and GPS map apps works. Wireless and Bluetooth scanning features are off. Then it was replaced with different brand custom degoogled ROM image, ..and again voila it took the same time to turn on Bluetooth, start car engine and point target location. In ordinary user view GPS does not work in Mata on the ROM.

12.5 minutes is an inherent limitation of all GPS devices due to how the satellites physically orbit the Earth.
It doesn't *always* take 12.5 minutes, just some times.

Try the app, it will very clearly show GPS working.
Hi! I tested for 2 hours including being outside clear sky. GPSTest shows 3-5-7 satellites with 10-25 %. Other apps no one even gets location. Lets name them.. bus public scheduler apps /several/, here you go, igo, waze..

P.S.
Its clear that whole subsystem does not work because of what? What to install , which subsystem apps to get things sorted?
And do not forget if I install stock firmware and even turn off search bluetooth/wifi/celluar and second inside Google Location option similar to previous (strange wording the same but boxes are different and condition) , still gets location from mentioned above user apps.

There are no apps you can install to "fix" GPS.
Even in general network location providers do not have any effect/impact on GPS.

On typical Qualcomm devices the IZAT extensions are used to spoof to the system what are really NLP results (derived from incomplete GPS locks) as being GPS results which is why the stock and other systems seem to lock quickly.

In my experience of testing GPS on many phones, mata has very awful antennas which can make it hard to lock even outside. You can test this even on stock OS where GPSTest will show poor signal strenths when compared to another phone side by side.

I assure you however that GPS is functional, as is shown by your device detecting satellites, but sadly not locking in your case.

Some things you can try:
Does the device have accurate time? Ensure it is accurate if not.
Is the device in airplane mode? Disable it if so.

Interesting detail on why stock *appears* to lock faster. Thanks for the detail!

I can confirm GPS works, but it takes a long time to lock (usually less than 10 minutes). I noted the GPS signals reported by the GPSTest app appear to be "weaker" in DivestOS than on stock. Possibly due to more tricks from the binary blobs?

GPS does work yes, but man, that 10min lock really negates any app that need GPS access.
Any way to get the IZAT extensions back? They're bad for privacy and thus why they were removed?
Even if it gives NLP results while the phone is trying to get a GPS lock, I'll definitely take that. At least apps won't bug out.

IZAT will not be added back.

In the past DivestOS included only the UnifiedNlp component (from microG) which mitigated this mostly, but that too was found to have issues.
I'd like to have it back in the future, but the standalone variant hasn't been updated since 2017.

There was work on reviving it in 2020, but it never merged: https://github.com/microg/UnifiedNlp/pull/199

From the pull request you mentioned, in the comments, someone mentions his own pull request that he messed up but says is actually functional?

I'm no dev so I don't know if that could be usefull at all.

Yes, I could probably compile that or bodge it together myself, I just always prefer to use official releases for apps.

The other issue is that UnifiedNlp may leak location to apps without permission per their wiki:
Does not honor AppOps!

Any of you having issues with sending out SMS?

After all this time using this ROM, I had to send a SMS for the first time. The SMS would never go through.
Receiving SMS is no problem on the other hand. Tried with 3 different SMS apps.
Reading on other ROM threads, seems like VoltE is the issue, but even when disabling VoltE, still can't send SMS.
Switched between "Global" and "LTE Only", still no go. Resetted the APN, no go.
Some ROMs apparently have this issue fixed.

Been using messengers all this time, thus never had the need to use SMS until today :(

Can both of you confirm if VoLTE works on your device?

Either via the HD icon showing when you make a call OR dial *#*#4636#*#* > Phone info > 3 dot > IMS Service Status.

hedge can you also try reseting your APN settings?

In my case, phone calls have always been rock solid for me, incoming and outgoing.

Please see the 2 screenshots below.
I should also add that when I use the "Global" Preferred Network type, outgoing SMS just hang and never get sent out. I have to go in airplane mode to cancel the neverending sending attempt.
When using "LTE only" as the Preferred Network type, sending out a SMS will disconnect me from US Mobile network, aka no more cellular connectivity. Going to airplane mode to cancel the neverending sending of the SMS, brings back the cellular network back online.
