I have cwm 6.0.5.1

OK, what I would do is install an older kernel with TWRP. I've attached one you can use. I'm assuming you have re-partitioned and have at least 1gb in /system

1. Reboot to CWM. Backup whatever you need to.
2. Flash the attached kernel. Reboot straight back to recovery. This kernel you have flashed may boot RR 5.1.1, but it may end up in a bootloop. am just suggesting you use it for the embedded recovery
3. Now you should get TWRP 2.8.7.0 booting. From this recovery do your wipes(for clean flash), flash the new rom and gapps(use a small package unless you have the space in /system), and also flash the TWRP 3.0.2.x isorec recovery, then reboot to system.
4. Wait for a few minutes for the initial boot-up.......enjoy.

All the newer roms these days are isorec enabled. You can check after you boot up the new rom. Just reboot to recovery and you will see TWRP 3.0.2.x

Thanks a lot for your clear instructions.
I have 1.5gb system.
Which type of gapps shall I download. In page one the link drives me to:
Platform ARM
Android 6.0
Variant stock

Can I use super with the partition I have?

Yes for RR 5.7.3: ARM; 6.0; whichever gapps you want

With 1.5gb system you can install any gapps package including "super"

Is it enough in TWRP 2.8.7.0 to go to Wipe>Swipe to Factory Reset? DO I need to go to Advanced Wipe? If yes what shall I clean from there?

Hi everyone,
I'm running RR with TWRP twrp-3.0.2-1-i9100.img 2016-04-25 14:16:58
from: https://dl.twrp.me/i9100/

I tried several time doing (TWRP) backup to the microSD (as external storage, 16GB with 18.5GB avail space) card but the backups always stop before completion and it automatically reboots to Android.

When I check the backup folder, it always (many backup attempts) missing the big files (either system.ext4.xxx or data.xxx).

I tried everything (downgrade TWRP to 2.8.7xxx, enable compression, etc) and still not working.

I DON'T WANT backup to the internal sdcard.

Please let me know if you have problem backup to your MicroSD card.
Thank you everyone

I believe it is enough to just factory reset. This should wipe data, cache and dalvik/art cache. The installation of a new rom should automatically format system as well.

What I do is advanced wipe -> system, data, cache, dalvik/art cache. If I want to do a really clean wipe I also wipe internal sd(this will wipe photos and other media which otherwise would be left on the device)
