Quick review

A few days ago I decided to try CM14 on my phone, to see how this Android Nougat was, what features it brought etc. I haven't used it for more than one day, so what I'm writing is not a detailed review, but only a quick list of the positive things that have impressed me.
As we all know, the camcorder is broken and so are all the screen recording apps, so my humble hypothesis is that there's something wrong with the hardware video encoder, but anyways I've got a very small knowledge in this field so I'd better move on and talk about something else.
The OS seemed to run more smoothly than CM13, I even restored my 50 apps with Titanium and started using the phone normally and I really appreciated this extra responsiveness of the phone. What's more, the phone boots faster and as soon as it loads the launcher it's ready to be used smoothly, no need to wait for more than a few seconds.
Another good thing I noticed: now, when I open Snap camera and tap on the screen to focus something before taking a photo, the phone focuses the object almost immediately and always at the first attempt, whereas on CM13 it takes a longer amount of time and a bigger number of attempts.
Ok, so in the end it looks like a really promising CM release, and it's bound to improve with time so... Prepare your phones!

OK, well all I can say is wow. I installed this ROM a few days ago and I am amazed by its performance. Note I also have helium kernel installed and its amazing buttery smooth only slight lag here and there. I have made comparisons with my Z2 on stock based eXistenZ custom ROM and it is almost as close as my Z2 when opening apps its only when I open games that I can see a difference. So I decided to do an antutu benchmark Even though the results never usually mean anything. Yet I was stunned to see that it gets this score. My Z2 scores around 40000-50000 and my brothers opo scores 62000. For a dual core device at default kernel values I think these results are amazing.

Hi,
Installing CM14.0 right now. I just want to say that first post should be modified! I flashed the "boot.img" that I've extracted from "cm-14.0-20160927-UNOFFICIAL-huashan.zip" before applying CM14.0 (I was in pure AOSP 7.0 since then).
What is weird: I couldn't apply CM14.0 in CM recovery, and I wiped everything that was "wipeable".

I had to restart the phone in fastboot mode once again, and flashed back twrp recovery. Then it was possible to flash CM14.0.

Is this normal?

Why do you extract the boot.img file ; just flash the .zip on twrp + Gapps...

The GApps did not work. I installed micro as it was recommended. now my device won't start, it is stuck on the SONY logo and i don't know what to do. I flashed the ROM correctly and it worked but the GApps did not. Please tell me what to do...

Well I just read the 1st post :)

About the ROM itself, I have a bug with the default music player or Joe Apollo Music Player: when the screen turns off, it stops music. Can it be changed through settings or not?

GPS is perfect for me and I use it every day, can't tell for now.
Neither for awake, for now I'm getting my best battery lifetimes & no deep-sleep issue.

Small screenshot of tonight's work on 7.1 ;).

New 14.1 build coming soon, with various improvements and working camcorder.

As always, DO NOT forget to upgrade GApps to 7.1 too.

PS: Build restarted because camcorder commits were missing somehow.
