I have 18.5. Update in setup to 18.8 start loading but stop immediately and say fail md5...

The answer is already found here in this thread, use another version of CWM, switch to TWRP or Philz another version. Of course check update's md5 to be on the safe side.

Hi all,

I've got a problem with installing v18.5. Just wiped DN4 rom and tried this one. I'm stuck on this part:
"finding update package...
Opening update package...

E: can't open/external_sd/PheoniX.ROM.....

(bad)"

Now I know this was already here in the thread. "wipe dalvik and cache only, reboot." After that the Opening update package... stage is a bit longer and after some time it displays the same error. I'm sure that the file is correct as I've checked that with md5 checksum on every stage.
DN4 is installing without any issues. I can't start the aroma installer :(

If anyone have any idea how to proceed please let me know.

I've tried to install previous version v18 and I've got the same effect. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.

Second update, tried philz 6.26 and recommended 5.15. Also the newest philz 6.48 did not work :(

first do the wipes, then install version 18.8. Now don't wipe anything and flash v18.5 and there you can select full wipe in Aroma installer.

Still the same problem. I was able to install 18.8 OTA update via philz but the 18.5 is getting stuck at this time :(. I'll try to go from stock to this rom. Lets see if this will help. Anyway thanks for your help. I'll post here if this will work.

Edit: The same problem after moving from stock 4.3 and trying to flash this rom. I wonder what is happening and why the Aroma is not starting :(

Edit2: I've tried to install different rom: Alliance and still failing with the same error. I'm missing something but I'm not sure what exactly.

Edit3: Little investigation shows that I'm able to install stock 4.3 and new stock 4.4.2. DN3 v5.5 and DN4 is working without any issue. Any installation of other custom rom is ending with a (bad) error message. I'm out of ideas. Full wipes and different order installations are ended in the same error. Seams that I'm stuck on stock or DN4/DN3 :(

did you follow the instructions I told you to? first flash the ota, and reboot recovery, don't wipe anything and flash the v18.5.

You can also try using TWRP with the same procedure if normal doesn't work.

Try flashing after wiping the phone with Agni Cleaner script. Since DN4 comes with Agni kernel, it may be causing the problems.

Yes I did exactly the way you described. The TWRP shows some strange error which may help to track the issue. Faild to sysmap I'll try to look for this error later today. Maybe this will work.

Tried this also. The Agni kernel is removed by the Agni clean zip. Issue is the same.

Are you using Philz 5.15.0?

Hi, yes I'm using 5.15 also trying 6.26 and I think latest 6.48. No Change. The error on TWRP was displayed only first time all later attempts are ending with not able to open file.

I'm wondering if this might be caused by the Card. I've recently got a 16G card and this is my first attempt to upgrade from this card. From other side DN is working so I'm not sure if this is the cause.

I'll try later today with PhilZ 15.5 and a smaller card.

The only solution for you is the one I gave you.
1. Do the wipes
2. Flash 18.8
3. Reboot recovery
4. Don't wipe anything, Flash 18.5 in Aroma there is option to wipe

PS. Try using latest TWRP and use Internal Memory

cool rom

I want to say its a great rom and impressed with it. this is my first flashing of a custom rom as i did it to try and solve the docking issue that keeps my screen on always but it didnt help. Anyways, i lost root privileges, so do i have to root via odin again?

If you have a custom recovery just flash the updatesupersu.zip(search on xda) and you'll have root back.

Ok, so if i want to make any changes to the settings i chose during the prior installation, does it mean i have to go through the whole process of re-installing Phoenix rom (in order to access the Aroma installer again)?

You don't need to install the rom again. Just select whatever changes you want and in aroma select don't install rom.

Hi all
been a long time since I've been here.
I just wanted to check something out with you guys.
I had a note 2 a while back and used this rom. I sold it to a guy I work with and he's just asked me about the ota updates. He wants to jump to the latest 18.8. Before I do it for him I just wanted to check it's ok as it'll be coming from v17. Recovery is Philz touch 5 Cwm based v6.0.3.7. I'm assuming this is all well out of date by now so just wanted confirmation that's is ok to just do the ota update without anything else needing doing?
Thanks
