Actually it's not too bad. From the Rom .zip grab the system->app->systemui.apk and the framework-> framework-res.apk and upload them to the UOT kitchen. Select the icons and such you want and in about 15 mins it will package them as a flashable .zip for you. Just be sure to read all of the instructions. Found here:

Hey ryude, just to let you know, I was itching to get the longer battery life of GB and flashed the ME version of unoriginal. I am staying here for a while now :) When I used to use unoriginal ROM, I stayed at stock DPI. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that the DPI of 200 is stable as well. Just that I use exdialer instead of the stock dialer.

That's great to hear! I recently changed the governor to ondemand with minimum frequency of 500nhz and Max of 1000mhz. Its much faster and battery life seems a little better as well. It could just be confirmation bias, but still you should try it out.

I am already on noop and ondemand, but 200/1200. I will try out 500/1000 and let you know. I have also set screen off max to 500 using SetCPU.

What's the kernel on the 1.4.6 ME version? DD 3/4?

It's the same kernel as the last 4+ versions.

I am curious because you had mentioned that you had included DD 3/4 kernel in 1.4.3 version. And if 1.4.6 ME has the same kernel then Ex Tweaks should work with it. But it's not.

btw your tip was excellent. I have on-screen freq set to 500/1000 and off-screen set to 500/500, ondemand: 80000/95/nice load=1, noop.
And I was astounded when I saw how low the overnight battery drain was (of course with data and wifi turned off, only mobile network working).

3/7 is also good, but I have better luck on versions without gpu control.

Ugh, I hate how every other ROM I flash makes me immediately want to flash back to this. I like the way the phone works on this ROM, but I am getting the itch to get a new phone...

I've been meaning to try this for a long time now and finally flashed it a few days ago. It just works, which is more than I can honestly say about any ICS our JB ROM. Plus the speed and battery life. I'll be using this for awhile. Thanks so much!

Question: how much of a difference did the odex script make?

Honestly odex didn't make that big of a difference. I'm sure it does something, but I can't really see it.

How much battery saving difference will I see if I go to a custom GB Rom?

Sorry for the dumb question but the first day I got my phone I rooted, installed a custom recovery and flashed ICS.

To me battery life is one of my top priorities

That's something you have to find out for yourself. Everyone uses their phone differently so I can't just throw out a number.
