i won't be able to update for a long time since i don't have the device but thanks for keeping this phone up to date. today i gave it to someone else and he's using it as a main phone with groovy now. he's not a tech savvy guy so i can't even guide him to update lol... just rooted and installed magiskhide props config to pass safetynet just in case then locked magisk so he can't mess with settings he doesn't know. using a modified icey kernel since i had the source code for it, removed 1.1 ghz for little cores cuz its defective or something, was boot-looping with the stock kernel. also i modified that kernel to disable off-mode charging and boot when you plug the charger cuz the power button is dead. this phone also had a battery and screen replacement. i did my best to keep it alive and it was my secondary device till yesterday. still usable for daily tasks. tried almost all the roms but i think groovy is the most stable one, not having the notification categories is a bummer but it wasn't a big deal for me since it was my secondary device and probably that guy won't care either. i don't think he even knows about the notification categories lol. i tried the newer roms it was a fun experience but i choose groovy for active daily use

Good Morning. Guys, I have a zenfone 2 ze551ml, with the aokp rom installed. I want to remove it to install the groove, but I haven't dealt with it for a while. In my case I just follow the steps of the option to install the rom? My zenfone 2 is not reading sd card and i think this aokp rom is the problem because i always had trouble reading sd card with it. When I do the wipe process, can I play the files on the zf2's internal memory by the pc using adb?

If the external SD issue is related to AOKP then you should be able to read your SD under recovery. If it's some kind of hardware issue it won't work on any of them.

Having said that, and assuming you have a compatible recovery, you can even clean flash the rom without using your external SD or ADB. There's no need to wipe internal storage. Just place your ZIPs (rom, gapps, magisk, etc) in your internal storage, wipe dalvik, cache, system, data and flash rom, gapps, magisk, etc.

Got it, I did the test for recovery and really it still doesn't recognize the sd card, so it's a hardware problem. I will take you to a service center to get it fixed. But I'm going to use it right away and install the groove, the bootloader is mm, the twrp is version 3.2.3-0, will this version work without problems?

IIRC there were issues witn MM bootloader, you should downgrade to L.
I'm using this TWRP version: https://dl.twrp.me/Z00A/twrp-3.3.1-0-Z00A.img.html

To do this, just follow the steps in the sub-item "Upgrade bootloader and install recovery"? Or do you talk about reinstalling stock firmware, with android L? If so, what is the procedure for reinstalling stock firmware? I don't remember what the process was like anymore, as I haven't used Zenfone 2 for years, it's with my father now.

I used the indicated method for installing the groove, I went back to the stock firmware, lolipop version. I used bat to install the bootloader mm, brick my ze551ml, I just can't get back to the lolipop version through xfstk. I don't know if it was a bug that caused the problem, but this method indicated on groove's website doesn't work.

Sorry to hear that. But that's exactly the same process me and everyone else followed.

Hi everyone.
Phone: ZE551ML 2GB RAM WORLDWIDE model
Firmware: Latest last ASUS official from 6.0 release
Bootloader: UNLOCKED
Recovery: TWRP 3.2.1
Magisk: NONE, Boot is clean
xposed: NONE

I just want to say I love this ROM. It really is the best option as a last, almost recent security updated ROM. It's fast, featureful, and since it's Android 7.1 there's way more app support.

I really want to use this ROM and phone, but there's a huge problem: I cannot make or receive normal calls. When attempting to call any number, the dialer will appear and then the call ends after 10 seconds. I can also see if data is enabled, that data will change from LTE to H or H+, then back to LTE, then to H or H+.

Here is all the testing I did:
  • Tested SIM and calling on another LineageOS device (Android 8, Motorola brand). Works perfectly, calls come in and go out, no problems.
  • Tested with latest available of: NutOS, Mokee 7.1.2, and lineage-14.1-20180120-nightly-Z00A-signed. same problem. No calls in or out. I did clean flash, TWRP wiped /system then flashed a ZIP.
  • Tested in SIM 2, SIM is recognized, but the provider has no 2G service.
  • Forced to activate on the specific Mobile Network provider in Settings.
  • Changed to 3G, rebooted, problem persists. Changed back to 4G, rebooted, problem persists.
  • Installed ASUS ZenUI, ASUS Contacts, ASUS Calling Screen. Didn't help
  • Installed Simple Dialer from F-Droid, didn't help.
Here is what works:
  • Everything normal operations wise. Clock, NTP, networking, internet, music, videos, Youtube, Games work, basically all apps I want work. Even apps needing GSF or Google Play Store works (just like my moto without MicroG). Basically just like a normal phone. It's super fast, slim, lightweight, it's awesome awesome awesome awesome.
  • I CAN send AND receive SMS and MMS text messages on the SIM card, in SIM 1. Works without issue.
  • I CAN connect to full LTE 4G data networking, works no problems. I can also connect to 3G, no problems. APN is correct.

It is really a confusing situation. It is down to something in software I will say then, because if SMS, MMS, and LTE Data work, but only calling does not (and only calling not working on the Zenfone, not on other phones), AND the issue is present with multiple different ROMs (although they were both NutOS lineageOS based)

I had the screen and battery replaced recently but I don't see how that would cause the issue here. I think calling worked before the screen was replaced, with this ROM, but I can't remember if I tested. Could there be a part inside that was damaged during repair, some kind of antenna? It doesn't make sense because LTE Data and SMS MMS works.

I hope someone has a solution. thank you!

Iirc that was a common issue when coming from Android M. Thats why I used to recommend this installation procedure: https://groovyandroid.github.io/installation

Thank you. Yes it seems I have this package downloaded. I am just hestitant flashing "random" core files like this. I think what I did was follow the steps in the shell script, but using 4_xx_40_352 files as that's all I could find for MM that came from an official image file.

I did a fastboot flash of the commands in the shell script, everything seems fine. I am clean wiping and flashing the Groovy zip now.

EDIT: Sorry to just edit but I wanted to make sure this was visible. Calls are still not going out or coming in unfortunately, after doing the previous step.

@bernadobas , do you have another suggestion? Will I need to downgrade back to 5.x, up to 6.x with your upgrade zip, then flash Groovy? Or is this not going to work>?

I do not want to install GApps if possible because every app I use daily doesn't need it.

Thank you!

It was also 4.21.40.352 and before I installed Groovy I had to first rollback to L with such firmware UL-Z00A-WW-52.20.40.196-user.
Thanks, so you had the same issue?

And so, in my case, I need to do the following then?
  • Downgrade to 52.20.40.196.
    • I also have the full package for 2.20.40.206, is that safe?
    • Can I just downgrade bootloader files, or should I flash the whole package?
    • I assume downgrading will wipe out custom recovery, but not relock system right?
  • Upgrade to MM BL with Groovy upgrade package
  • Clean system wipe, flash Groovy
Please let me know if that sounds good. Thank you very much!

Groovy Android is a ROM based (mostly) on Resurrection Remix, LineageOS, NutOS, Slim and Omni, this creates an awesome combination of performance, customization, power and the newest features, brought directly to your device.

    Code:
    #include <std_disclaimer.h>

    /*
     * Your warranty is now void.
     *
     * We are not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
     * thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
     * do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
     * before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
     * you point the finger at us for messing up your device, we will laugh at you.
     *
     */

Special thanks to the teams of LineageOS, SlimRoms, Omni, @nutcasev1.5, @ramrasekar, @say99, @Huikhor99 and @jrior001.

All the releases are rootless and can be dirty flashed. If you are using Magisk, you will have to flash it again after upgrading. If you get an error message while flashing the ROM due to Magisk, please, flash Magisk uninstaller and then the ROM again.

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. ALL PEOPLE AROUND PAY HEED.
In the past I have received about 12 PMs about Oreo support & I have usually said that once my exams are done I would try.

It turns out that the device specific sources for Oreo were TAKEN DOWN BY LINEAGE as they were work in progress for Oreo when they went official.

THEREFORE THERE WILL BE NO OREO FOR THIS PHONE.

I will however keep improving N & maintaining it.
RR has made a comeback. AICP as well. We are rebuilding this community rom by rom. But N is the latest version we can have.

RIGHT NOW, my plan is to update the kernel to 4.4 & update our specific graphics drivers to the stock MM. This would mean long term support for this phone. Effectively keeping it secure till maybe 2020, or whenever Google stops releasing patches for N.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT
    It should have ended differently.
    17
Finally we have the new GA version based on NutOS. We should all thank @nutcasev1.5 whose hard work is now part of the rom.

    Rom improvements
Better ril strength & reduced ril drain
    Better data speeds
    O3/Ofast code optimization ( performance )
Better media recording (AAC) & microphone performance
    GPS latency enhancements
Seccomp ( performance when playing media )
Much Better Doze ( idle )
    Autobrightness sensitivity fix
    Better Memory management

    Kernel (Hololite)
    Updated to Linux 108 in reference to atom's 72 ( security )
    Uses latest 7.2 TC ( efficiency )
GPU UV ( Better Thermals )
Lots of under the hood efficiency & battery tweaks
    NTFS, EXFAT OTG support
    Wireguard support

Please remember that this new build must be clean flashed, otherwise it will mess things up.

    http://groovyandroid.ga/downloads

    Enjoy!

PS: Z00D is built upon Lineage Kernel, not Hololite
    14
So basically this is resurrection remix with custom kernel? You removed things that are related to RR brand and claimed it new custom rom?
Actually it's not a new custom ROM at all. The Android world is dancing around Oreo and we are stuck on Nougat. So this is an old ROM which I'm trying to keep alive with a lot of effort.

I'm not even a software developer and I'm not claiming anything. As I said many times on the RR thread, I'm just a builder and I enjoy sharing what I do with the community.

FYI, the Oreo branch of the RR repository is not getting any new commits. The idea of this project is to start using NutOS as a base but in a progresive way to avoid making the os become unstable.

I hope my explanation was clear enough.

Please, feel free to keep sending me private messages asking for help. I will be delighted to keep answering you.

    Best regards ;)
    13
New builds are available for all the supported devices including December and January security patches.
