@Sobek5150 had the best advice on this. Helped me too. Install Smartpack Kernel Manager for this:

"Personally I have always (since getting on custom roms in 2018 with the G6) underclocked the CPU. Usually 1593MHz on the CPUs that are bigger and 1100MHz or so on the smaller two. I use Interactive CPU scheduler. Also in Virtual Memory make sure you have Zram turned on, use lz4 compression option (better than lz0) and 2048 Mb for the size."
Thank you very much for the prompt reply. I just noticed that if I change my CPU governor to "on demand" or "interactive" the big CPU clocks are locked at maximum frequency while the small CPU clock fluctuates (but mostly stay close to the highest value). For instance I set the big CPU clock to 1500 and it was locked there and never went down even when I was looking at the screen idly and doing nothing. The only time this clock fluctuates is when I set the governor to "power save".

In think there might be an issue with the kernel and trying a different kernel might be worthwhile. I'll wait for the developer's response since he will be able to tell us if flashing another kernel over the current ROM would be safe or not.

UPDATE: I tried different frequencies with different governors and was able to find a frequency for both small and big CPUs that fluctuates appropriately on "interactive". Thanks

I have found the same with Safety Net...tried every combo of Universal Safety Patch, MagiskHide Props Config, etc...No luck. Not a big issue for me since I don't use Google Pay or banking apps.

I had a heck of a time getting Viper to work. Eventually found a download for v 2.7.2.0 & v 2.7.2.1 - it wouldn't download through Magisk for some reason. I installed v 2.7.2.0 along with the Audio Mod Library, switched on Legacy Mode in V4A and viola....it works. YAY!

All else appears to be working well.
To everyone whos Safety Net is failing. I came across this solution in the G6 Kindergarten Telegram channel
https://t.me/g6com which worked for me.

Activate Magisk hide and hide the app itself via properties.

Download MagiskHide Props Config as module

Download Termux and input su for superuser access

Input props then 1 then f and change fingerprint to Google Pixel 5

Restart and check with Safety Net Test app from PlayStore. Magisk safety net check may still fail. Also check PlayStore certification if applicable.

Hope this is useful.

Tried this but Safety Net still fails. Google Play now says my device is certified, however, I cannot download Netflix from there.

Are you using Magisk Canary? I'm on Magisk 22.1.

I'm using 22.1. But as already discussed before the problems with Safety Net are getting more diffuse at the moment due to Google rolling out hardware attestation for Safety Net. You may got unlucky earlier than me.

This ROM runs pretty bad on the H870..
Everything is laging and the device gets hot very fast (almost not holdable without a case)
Battery drain is insane (85% capacity), 10-20 seconds for 1% while watching a video.

I don't know why, but Lineage works better with the H870.. (Battery drain is still bad but no lags and the average device temperature is lower)...

Sounds like it's not the roms fault...

I'm facing the same issues. had to switch to lineage. hoping havoc becomes usable again, because i really like how customizable it is.

I have noticed a significant drop in call quality - I can't hear anyone, sound is dropping like the other person was keeping the phone next to a fan...
Is this my phone? Did anyone have similar issues?

Did anyone of you having battery drain and heat problems try installing smartpack kernel manager and tweaking CPU clocks and Virtual memory.
Please try this as described in the quote. These problems are known issues for Android 10 and 11 Roms and usually not unfixable.
Also make sure you clean flashed the ROM.

Since this thread is a bit silent atm I wanted to ask something I'm curious about for some time now.

I expect to use the G6 for at least another 2 years. But I'm already experiencing some performance troubles when in heavy use. I really love the phone, the cam, sound quality, sturdiness and of course this Custom ROM. But it may be time to at least give some thoughts to its successor.

I don't want to pay the price of a brand new flagship model I'm happy with a flagship phone which is up to 2-3 years old and ideally has a custom ROM which is as well developed as this one.

I heard many good things about the Google Pixel 5. And I want to avoid lineage roms. I never had good experiences with it.

Do you have any thoughts?

Hey! Yeah we're getting close to this phone not being as viable anymore.

With that said, if you use lean ROMs like lineage, that's probably the best case scenario for usability going forward. I personally love the Havoc ROM as well, however, with a feature that packs in it usually does run hotter and sucks more battery down, as well as affecting performance, then other ROMs like lineage.

I cannot speak to the pixel 5, however in November last year I went to the OnePlus 7 Pro. I personally love it, and still use my G6 for some Media stuff and testing the ROMs for OP. My wife has a pixel 2 and she enjoys it still to this day. Still using Android 11 on their stock, no custom firmware yet. I figure when they move to Android 12, and the pixel 2 gets left behind that'll be about the time I'll probably look to do custom roms for her to extend the life.

Thanks again for your great advice. The OnePlus 7 Pro is indeed a phone I would be interested in since it also has a 5g model. It's still quiet expensive here in Europe close to 300$ for a refurbed device.

What ROM do you use? I saw that Havoc ROM on XDA is relatively "outdated" still running with A10.
