Today Samsung released new official 2.3.6 firmware I9000BOJW6 for T-Mobile/Netherlands (TNL) via KIES
Release includes CSC I9000GTNLJW5 , old modem I9000XWJW4 (CL1118084) and new kernel CL1177078 (XWJW8 was CL1152999)

Installed it now. This ROM has 364 MB RAM. Comes with lot of T Mobile **** apps and widgets. The ROM look smooth though. Will use it over night and see how it works.

No problems rooting it. It works with the latest CF-Root. But that kernel is to old. Need a new kernel for maximum performance.

Root your rom with a custom kernel, then flash this kernel on top. You will still have root

.

Personally I just flashed the kernel on top of ZSJW4 (been rooted and customised for ages). It's not worth to flash a branded rom with no new features but the kernel is new

(and so far so good).

Ram is the same 364mb, no noticable benchmark difference or anything as usual.

how to flash the kernel alone? I have downloaded the Zimage zip file then how can I make a tar file? shall I replace the Zimage of an existing tar file?

I think odin can flash the zImage directly (no need to make a tar). If that doesn't work, use "sgs kernel flasher" from market, it's free and will work on zips or plain zimage

(needs root though of course).

Help with rooting and flashing CM9

Hello,
I own GT - I9000 with STOCK ROM exactly this one (2.3.6 TMZ - Baseband i9000XXJW4; and Build number - gingerbread.BOJW6)
And I wanna root and flash from stock to custom rom (CM9).
Before posting I tried to root my SGS by SuperOneClick 2.3.3, however it stopped in the step 7. And now I would like to use ODIN for this. But I will do this once and I dont want to make hard brick from my phone. I am confused in this terms like PDA,CSC atc. And I dont know where to find new ones.
It´s possible to join files to this thread for ODIN for rooting and flashing?
It´s needed to upload new kernel, baseband (PDA,CSC and so on) on the phone?
Please would you mind to clear this issue up for me?
