I finally found a solution, its a bit weird but anyways, if anyone has the same problem:

I think the issue is, that most of my contacts are doubled in my Contact App. This is because WhatsApp and Telegram create their own Account and therefore create a new Contact for every Phone Number which can be reached via the messenger.

Oh right, I can reproduce that. Once you link contacts the menues change. I'd call that a bug, there's no valid reason to let you add a picture from the main contact screen but not remove it.

@dumdidum123
I've seen already on the first screenshot (although hidden by the menu) that in the background there was a "linked contact"-symbol.
So I would have found it very reasonable, that you cannot delete a picture in the contacts, that was provided by its original app. Simply either delete or exchange it in the app that provides the contact.
Cannot see any bug in that behavior.

That's not how it works though. You can still remove any picture but have to do it by selecting the specific account first. On the other hand, you can change that same picture from the main contact screen. That inconsistency alone makes me call this a bug already.

What's more is that you only get to choose which individual contact to manipulate if that contact already has a picture. Otherwise changing the picture of a linked contact without pictures adds it to a random one. However, changing the picture of a linked contact with at least one picture does not let you add pictures to individual contacts without pictures (which would make some sense if consistent).

tl;dr: It's a mess from a UX perspective to a point where I have no problem calling it broken.

But it's AOSP so we probably don't get to fix it here, do we.

Nevertheless, I still can't see any difference to CM13 though.
All this only occurs if you merged contacts. Without merging you'll have separate contact entries with only one location, be it phone, google, skype, whatsthef***app, ...
So I assume, you merged contacts or one of the apps in question merged them for you.

No I didn't merge anything by myself. All my normal contacts are stored in Google. Since I installed WhatsApp, I get additional enries for every contact who is using WhatsApp.
I have the choice now between calling a persona normaly, do a WhatsApp Call or send a WhatsApp Message.

I have no choice wether I want to merge contacts or not. Same with Telegram.
All I can do, to not see all Contacts doubled or trippled is, to go in to Contact's options and select "Shown Contacts/Angezeigte Kontakte". I chose my Google Account to not display all other contacts, which worked great. But I was not able to disable the automatic merging process which leads to the behavior of not being able to delete a picture...

I might be wrong. But I think you had a choice once.
Even if you are not aware any more. You decided to sync your contacts to your google account. :)
As I never did that, my contacts are not merged with any google account.
Neither in CM13 nor in Lineage14.1, so both behave alike.
But if you still consider this to be a bug, you could file a new issue in the bug-tracker. No regression, so it will most likely be closed immediately in the nightly-regression-tracker.
But who knows...

@the.gangster I wasn't saying it's a regression (the contacts are an AOSP app), I was just disagreeing with you whether it should be considered a bug. Contact linking is a supported feature so the UI for it should work properly, that's all.

P.S. I'm sure you know but for the benefit of others: Non-regression bugs can only be reported on weekends, please don't report them in the regression tracker where they will just be rejected, creating unnecessary work.

Why i can't store a phone number on phone? Only my google account is the "choice". In CM 13 i could select phone as storage too, if i didn't want to add the number to my google contacts.

You are able to choose where to store the new contact. See attached screenshot.

Hm I'm not sure, but my contacts aren't really merged with my google account. This is more the only place where they should be located.
At the moment I see that a contact of Google is connected to a contact from WhatsApp.
If I would have stored my contacts on my phone, I would still the the connection, not between Google and WhatsApp but between the local phone and WhatsApp. This would result in the same behavior, because the number is stored more than once (why are whatsapp and telegram creating their own adress book?)

Then you haven't updated to 20170322-build yet.
You are able to choose where to store the new contact. See attached screenshot.
Only if you have installed 20170322-build (and newer), as that option was not available before. Got fixed with that build.
But as tools like the must-have tool MyPhoneExplorer always did the job for me, I was not affected so far.

My accounts *are* local phone accounts plus there are those that were linked into the contacts by the apps. But as they are not merged it doesn't require the complicated way to edit or delete a photo as you guys described. If I want to edit a contact's photo that was set in an app, I also edit it in that respective app, while for "normal" local phone contacts, I edit (change or remove) it within the contacts. I don't see any advantage in having it any more complicated.

Yes, it does not matter what accounts you link - when testing after you found the cause I linked two local accounts.

As to other apps adding their own contacts that may be necessary to provide the link back to their application from the address book - and of course it's not optional because getting your data is their business model.

We are only talking about linked contacts ourselves, I wasn't even aware that contact merging was possible (and I cannot find the option). Also e.g. WhatsApp contact pictures are not even displayed in the Android contacts app, this is never what this was about. And I don't have a single contact stored on google. Frankly I'm not sure now you really understood the issue. Anyway, I'll drop a report into jira when I get a chance and the team can decide what to do with it.

I just did a clean flash after getting a lot of issues when dirty flashing in each weekly. So far, is working better than I expected, but there are a few things mocking me:

-Sound notifications stops working for some reason:
I think whenever I'm watching a YT or Instagram video, and I get a notification, the sound notification stops working. New notifications can't be heard and the vibration is the only thing that is working. To fix this issue, I have to restart the phone completely to make it work again.

-AOSP Clock/Calendar apps seems to have a lot of wakelocks without launching the app (Fixed by replacing default apps):
Yesterday I've installed BBS to see which apps were giving out wakelocks, and I'm surprised that these 2 (Clock and Calendar) were the ones draining the battery. I've disabled both of them, and installed Google's Clock/Calendar as an user app. No wakelocks at the moment.

As a daily driver, yes, definitely it can be.

Keep it up the good work, guys.

I saw in i9300's LineageOS topic that the devs managed to create an opensource hardware composer. Does it also apply / can be used on Exynos 42xx or it is only for 44xx?

All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review.

    IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Root is not included by default on LineageOS 14.1. You need to install an add-on via recovery. You only need to install this once. You can download the SU add-on here
After installation go to Settings>Developer Options>Root access and set to Apps only or Apps and ADB.

LineageOS comes with LineageOS Recovery by default, if you don't like it (like me ;)) you can flash alternative recoveries using IsoRec. You really need 1GB /system partition. The smallest build-configuration is larger than 512mb. You can use ODIN, but you can also use Lanchon's REPIT.

If you're interested in BLN, check this thread for a complete support of this feature.
If you're interested to go to emulated-storage, check this thread.

Hi there you all diehard S2 users,

As a few of you all users know, last couple months I'm working and testing PegasusQ-governor with a new PowerHAL. I'm planning to make this the default governor instead of on-demand to get same performance and better battery life. I resolved the issue PegasusQ with the 150Mhz fix of zeitferne so it is stable to use.

    What does the new PowerHAL?
    Currently the PowerHAL does this:
    • Powersave : conservative governor
    • Balanced: On-demand governor
    • Performance: performance governor

The new PowerHAL supports PegasusQ governor by tweaking its settings (like its big brother i9300 does):
    • Powersave : PegasusQ freq limited to 600Mhz
    • Balanced: PegasusQ freq standard profile
    • Performance: PegasusQ fixed freq 1200Mhz (still drops to 800Mhz when CPU is getting hot. This is by-design and not managed by governor)
Also we will have PegasusQ boosting:
    • Frequency will be boosted for 2 secs when an app launches
    • Frequency will be shortly boosted when interacting with the device for more responsiveness
    • Less aggressive profile when the display is turned off to save battery (using max 1 cpu max 600Mhz in PowerSave)

I'm planning to submit the following commits in next weekly, but I want to notify you all first about these changes:
    https://review.lineageos.org/#/c/168813/
    https://review.lineageos.org/#/c/168815/

What I like to know is if PegasusQ is really improving battery and/or performance when we set it to default governor.
It must be set to default governor (at boot) because of the permissions which needs to be set at boottime.
Otherwise the PowerHAL doesn't have permissions to tweak PegasusQ and we miss all the nice features.
When the experience with PegasusQ is poor, I will revert the commits so we switch back to on-demand.

    • For those who wants to test PegasusQ + new PowerHAL right now, download my unofficial build here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=889764386195918750
    • For those who wants to test performance with Official build: Keep track of your battery life until next weekly and compare after you updated officially
    • For those who don't want take any risk with PegasusQ until tested: Don't update your phone at least 2 weeks

In my case I got about 10% more battery life and PowerSave now actually saves power. However Antutu Benchmark maxed out at about 18100 (instead of 19500 with ondemand).
I hope this will be the also the case on your devices.
    21
@the.gangster: I think it can just put LineageOS recovery two times, and since it is an option it can be disabled by the user.
And maybe it can be extended to auto-flash it when the phone come from a not-IsoRec kernel but it is just my opinion.

I hope someone fix sepolicies before the next nightly build raid.
It is already fixed. The faulty commit is reverted and I requested to add our device again. https://review.lineageos.org/#/c/162099/
