Hi arco,
not sure if there is a problem with the lineage-17.1-20201014-UNOFFICIAL-serranodsdd.zip build.
I did update the TWRP with the one in the first post, then I wanted to dirty flash from your LOS16 -> LOS17.
Got an endless boot. Then I reinstalled factory ROM, installed twrp again wiped all, changed data and cache to f2fs again like I used on LOS16 and then tried to install LOS17 again.
Again boots just endless (Lineage boot animation).
Not sure if the build has a problem or if it maybe lacks f2fs support?

Have you got any idea?
Thanks!

General hint: never dirty flash between different LOS versions, nor same LOS version from different distributions.
Regarding Endless Boot: Don't allow TWRP to install it's App, its broken and prevents LOS booting...

It's not so hard to use the "Search thread" function...
Thanks Mr. Shine - that did the trick!

Yes, I know the search thread function is not that hard.
Problem is it was not that obvious that this was the problem. First I thought it has something to do with Magisk. So I searched for the wrong stuff.

And I did update (dirty flash) my Galaxy S5 LOS 16 (official) to LOS 17.1 (official) just a few days back. I use f2fs there on cache and data as well and it worked like a charm.
So in principle LOS 17.1 does support f2fs. Only this build does not whereas the LOS 16 build does.
And f2fs on cache and data does stress the flash less, so in principle it is a good idea to use it on old devices like this.
Maybe Arco can even add it some time later.

So only when I was writing my post the idea came to mind that maybe, maybe f2fs could be the problem.

Good day Arco68:
I just want to report black screen, also when I play music with any player it randomly stops more than once and finally that the sim card slot 1 does not work. I have flashed the 10/14/2020 build. Thank you in advance for your support.

Hey arco68! Could you please post .config file for this kernel? Any patches of yours or is it just vanilla LOS upstream? I wish to add zRam support and other goodies.

/proc/config.gz has the full config. I'm maintaining the kernel, so upstream and mine is the same.

No Sims Detected

Hi @arco68,

First of all, thank you very much for maintaining LineageOS for the S4 minis.

I tried your 17.1 image as well as a custom build on my i9192. Everything seems to work well, except that no sims are detected. I can see both IMEIs, so I suppose the modem should be working. When I flash the original firmware back, the sims are detected without a problem. Do you have a hint where the problem might be?

I tried my custom build first, with the lineage recovery. Then yours, with the same recovery. Will TWRP make a difference?

I am a long time developer (1986) working on computational solutions for technical problems with industrial applications (simulations, geometry, numerical data,...). I am very familiar with linux (and other Desktop/Server operating systems), but relatively new to the android world and to mobile phones (as a developer). I find the available information a bit too scattered and difficult to find. I would gladly do some debugging directly on the phone, to try and understand the issue, but I have no idea how to setup a debugging environment for android. Could you please point me to some documentation? I would be glad to contribute to keeping these devices alive in Lineage.

Thank you very much,
Best Regards,
Manuel

Thanks, now the sims are detected

@bierma32 Thanks for the tip, updating the bootloader and modem worked tip top, no need to change the recovery.

Yet, I am still curious where this version of the firmware is coming from. My original firmware was indeed very old: it was my first smart phone, bought at amazon.de, but they sold me an iranian or iraqui version, which almost never got any updates (the last one in 2014). I looked at sammobile and saw a lot of more recent firmware versions, but not the one you shared (which I used, thanks). Is it also a Samsung Version of the the firmware, or does it contain any kind of "extra" engineering?

I am still very new in this world of android and mobile phones and I am trying to learn as I go...

Thanks!

First post updated with builds with November security patches.

The issue with camera preview sometimes having the wrong orientation should hopefully be fixed now.

Howdy arco.

Updated my 9195 from the October version. Now it gives me some fault with the SD-card. I can unmount/mount it and it shows me 2.29 GB used of 64,00 GB. Below it says, SD card Not inserted.

Unable to get into the phone from my PC. Says empty folder.

All apps installed on the card are not working. Unable to format the card as it times out.

Tried twice to flash the new version, same problem

I might have "accidentally" built the kernel without f2fs support, so if that's the filesystem you used,
try flashing this boot image in twrp: http://www.mediafire.com/file/ium85ql53566wpv/boot.img/file
