Loss of GSM signal

Hello,
First of all, thank you very much for what you do.
I installed Lineage 17.1 on my i9195 and was very happy with it. However, I notice that the reception of the GSM signal is very weak and that at times it no longer receives. If I restart, it works a few hours and then more. Do you have a solution for me. Thank you again for your help.

Why are you still using GSM, sure your Carrier in your country is still Operational. Try 3G or 4G LTE.
Check your Network Provider Mobile Coverage Maps for info. Search on Google. Change settings in Phone . Select Network and scan.

Samsung custom ROMs don't have volte. So for telephony we need gsm. As soon as the last provider dropps gsm, I can scrap all my Samsung galaxies.

Thank you @ arco68 for your response. I am not sure I fully understand. What do you mean by talking about hotspot. On the other hand, am I to understand that you are advising me to restart my phone every time I want to call? Forgive my ignorance, but I don’t speak English and am not very familiar with hacking on these phones. Anyway, thank you for your help.

Hello,

Want to add that I have also been having cellular network issues for the last month. The first version of 17.1 I didnt note any of these issues, which I think was the August compiled version.

I am now testing the November one but what I experienced was no signal after moving around town in places with bad signal. Then in places I had reasonable signal, the network would not come back unless I forced to change the preferred network type or rebooted.
Tried a few days locked to 2G and default (4G) and had the same problems. Usually, I always used 3G network as preferred.

Was considering moving back to 16.0 until other people posted this was an issue for them also.

---------- Post added at 04:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:47 PM ----------

BTW, don't know if this should be reported to LOS bug tracker but I've been having a strange issue with Files app.

Downloaded the new 17.1 ROM to internal ok. Then moved the ZIP to SDCard and it was renamed with a .JAR added to the end (still .ZIP).

Tried this 3 times and happened every time. Any feedback is appreciated.

Hi,
Just delete .jar extension then .zip will flash using TWRPV3.4.0-0.

Try several apps that can read RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator), RXL, (Received Signal level) RSRP & RSRQ (Quality performance) on 3G & 4G LTE. Will also neighbouring cells from adjacent Cells or Sectors in same Base Station, which have 3 to 6 Sectors or close nearby alternate Base Stations. CID (Cell Identification) Details available, Carrier, Network, Band, lots of info available, even maps.
I use G-mon and G-mon Pro which are free to download on app store.

Change Mobile Network in Settings, Mobile Network, preferred network type, select either 2G, 3G or 4G.

Cheers

Has anyone had a problem using NetGuard on LineageOS 17.1? Anytime I enable it, it blocks all WiFi on my device rather than just specific apps. Any ideas?

Ever since updating to this, my battery usage has shot up dramatically and I've experienced at least daily crashing. I have the 20201112 version on serranoltexx, with pico gapps (20201121), and I've rooted it with Magisk.
It mostly crashes when I'm not using it, at different times and intervals, seemingly randomly. When I see it crashing, it's just like I'd have accidentally locked the screen, but when I try opening it, it starts booting. Usually it crashes also while trying to boot, but usually starts up fine on second or third try. Any ideas what might be causing this? Is there ways I could debug it so it could maybe be fixed or do I have to go back to a older Android?
What comes to battery usage, it was recently replaced and on Android 6 my average charging interval was well over a day, just couple weeks ago. Now I need to charge twice a day, without change in actual phone usage habits. Now I can lose 10% of battery an hour after charging without using the phone (<1 min screentime). Normal battery drop overnight (when it happens to stay up for the night, which is kinda rare) now is about 30-35 %. Crashing seems to eat a lot more battery than the phone just sitting there, I've had over 50% disappear at some nights.

The only thing that comes to mind as difference to other users is that my old installation was encrypted, so I had to wipe absolutely everything, and reformat /data completely (had to change FS to something else and then back again in recovery) to get rid of the old encryption.

Update:
For some reason, after being unusably unstable for couple of weeks, it has now stayed up for almost a day, and battery usage has dropped dramatically, I've only lost 6% in 11 hours. Something has clearly changed, it's completely different now. Will update later on whether this was a temporary thing or not.

U2:
Seems it fixed itself, quite fast after posting. Weird. Maybe the XDA-gods saw my suffering and made my Android behave finally.

Just completely wiped an i9195 (serranoltexx) and installed lineage-17.1-20201215-UNOFFICIAL-serranoltexx.zip via the provided twrp-3.4.0-0-serranoltexx.img

Directly after installation (and also after a few successive reboots) the cameras are working fine.
After enabling device encryption the cameras stopped working.

Standard camera app and OpenCamera say they can't access the camera.
I attached some logcat output.

P.S. LineageOS-16.0 (lineage-16.0-20201107-UNOFFICIAL-serranoltexx.zip) doesn't have that problem.
