[ROM][I9190/I9192/I9195/L520/R890][Unofficial][11.0.0] LineageOS 18.1 for S4 Mini

Search This thread
Good day all,
Firstly, let me compliment arco68 for his never-ending work on these and other ROMs. Sir, your work is outstanding! I have just installed LOS 18.1 on my S4 GT-I9195 LTE and it is functioning like a dream so far. The only issue I picked up initially was that it did shut down unexpectedly while i was changing some settings, however, it only happened once so far. Will keep an eye on it.
I do have 2 questions if I may:
1: I cannot seem to find a way to set my own sound n the messaging (SMS) app? Could someone please advise on if this is possible?
2: When starting up or when rebooting, I find that it sometimes takes quite a while to connect to the cellular network (I am Vodacom South Africa, with LTE) and you can basically watch the battery percentage decrease by the second. Now I do understand that I only installed today and the OS has to "settle in" as it were, so for now just an observation really but if anyone has had this issue as well and has a possible solution I would love to hear it.
Other than the above, as I say, so far all great. Thank you again sir!

Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini
OnePlus One
Just attempted a phone call / USSD code - which was denied. This apparently isn't related to the condition @jbohac had reported as `getprop gsm.sim.state` returned `LOADED`.
So I tried to shutdown for a full reboot - but pressing the power button didn't show the menu at all. Since I had seen this before, I had "Power App" installed (io.github.domi04151309.powerapp) and could use that.
Now the power menu is back, but I can't do any calls. (I received two text messages yesterday, and sent another one to that phone just now. I also can call the phone, so GSM services are OK.) How to debug this?

On samfirmware, find the latest upgrade for your operator/country (and triple check the phone model!), compare with the baseband currently on your phone, they should not differ by a long time. Mine (Germany, unbranded) has I9195XXSCQAI, with a build ID starting with I9195XXUC (and three more characters).
If you're still on stock, try to upgrade - using system powers or asking Odin for help.

Addendum: I9195XXUCQL2 also seems to be OK for the baseband (and whatever CQ there might also exist).

File versioning:
Some of you might be unaware of how the Samsung versioning of the Modem is laid out,

The filename displays the version as I9195XXUCOG1, the layout of the versioning is as follows:

•I9195 - Identity of the phone supported
•XXUC - Identity of location [XXU] - European location (Unbranded)
•C - Appears this hasn't been identified as why its there or what it does
•Q - Year of version (here 2017) with P = 2016 and O = 2015
•G - Month of version (here 7.th [July])
•1 - Compilation number, goes from 1 - 9 and A - Z

From Download modem section is no longer there - I tried to uplaod here - doesn't allow 52meg files

this needs updating
this was the one that used to hold I9195XXUCQL2_I9195XXUCQL2.tar

this is how I installed I9195XXUCQL2 way back when (its a Dec 2017 file)

Back up using TWRP your current Modem imei efs before flashing , & Copy it somewhere safe

•Extract latest version of Odin to your computer.

•Install Samsung Mobile Phone Drivers for Odin to find your device.

•Boot your phone into download mode, by pressing [Volume down] + [Home] + [Power]

- Once you reach the Download mode warning screen, press [Volume Up] to continue.

•Open Odin

[1]Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
[2]Place the desired modem file in the [AP] slot.
[3]Go to the Options section and make sure Auto Reboot, Re-Partition and F. reset time are unmarked.
[4]Push [Start]

Once odin reports "Success..." message in the Message box, boot your phone into download mode once again and repeat step 1 - 4 once more.

Odin takes about 20 second and says "PASS" not success !!
and the phone never says it did anything, never says its finished and the carries on saying don't turn off target,
you have to kill it they do it all over again... all very reassuring !!!
they say do it twice coz the worlds mad!

Hi all,
Updated observation since installing on Tuesday, December 06th, 2022:
1: Data connection does not seem to work, there is a constant small "x" in the cellular network icon, whether on LTE, 3G, or 2G. Phone and battery also get extremely hot. I have purchased data, so no issue there.
2: Along with 1 above, battery also drains extremely quickly, basically you can watch it drop by the second.
3: Turning off data completely does not seem to help much, still a small "x" in the cell network icon. Not sure what that is telling me. Battery does not drain quite so quickly, however.
4: If I remove the SIM card completely, the phone works wonderfully, no overheating or battery drain
So it seems just the "modem" or cellular network part is an issue, so if there is anyone who can suggest a simple "fix" for a 60-year old who has a little knowledge of these things, I would appreciate it immensely.
EDIT: Ok, found out the small "x" is telling me data is disabled, so solved that. However, the other issues still remain as above.

All your issues, are a sign that the installation was not perfect.
Charge your battery to 100% boot to recovery, wipe dalvik cache, format data and system.
Flash your ROM and if you need also gapps.
Wipe cache and dalvik again, reboot to system.

If you come from stock Android 4.x , than wipe also the internal data / Sdcard
Good day @bierma32,
Thank you for your reply. I am using TWRP so if I wipe the SD card, how would I then get the LOS ROM and GAPPS installed?
EDIT, not to worry, I found the answer in another thread, TWRP is recognised on a PC, so will upload the files from there after wiping.

Hello,
a tip for example, i never configure the SD-Card as an additional internal storage.
Still leave as external storage. So it's easy to change the SD-Card or eject for
writing or copying with PC. A ROM file or update can also copy to the Card and
install with TWRP from this. DCIM-Camera storage etc. can also configure to Card.

Hi thank you, yes I also never configure SD card as internal storage. I prefer to leave it as external storage for this very reason.

@bierma32, Well just did a reload as per your instructions and things are even worse, sorry to say. Playstore not working, phone still overheating something chronic, cellular network still playing up, shuts down when at 50% battery, battery still drops by the second when booting up, It's really worse than when I first installed. Maybe my phone has an issue, I don't know, but it's such a pity. Thank you for your assistance anyway.

@markdewet
1.I wrote internal Data / Sdcard not ext.Sdcard.
2.which gapps version you have installed ? Opengapps nano or pico ,ARM Android 11 ? Or Mindthegapps ( I preferred ) ( works perfect on my phone since first LOS18.x Version )
Try another clean install.
First install LOS and see how it works.
Boot TWRP , wipe factory reset install Mindthegapps , wipe cacvhe and dalvik, reboot system.

@bierma32, Hi, OK,
1: I misunderstood but no issue, thank you.
2: I also only use MindThe Gapps, I find it best
I have given it a bit of time and it seems to be stabilizing now, so I will just work with it for now.
Last question:
I cannot seem to find a way to set my own sound n the messaging (SMS) app? Could you please advise on if this is possible?

@ahoellrigl I just checked the link to the 3.6.2 build from the original post, it seems to be still the same. With that one, besides the issues reported in #631, I found that I couldn't reliably adb into recovery; replacing it with the official 3.6.2 still in sdcard fixed the issue (but removed the image restore feature which also somehow didn't work for me). I never went for 3.7.0.

First post updated with new builds.

November security updates

Hey @arco68 ! Thank's for this nice release and the security updates 🚀

It's awesome that a Android 11 runs smoother on this 10 year old device than the original Android 4 it was shipped with 😆

A question about your rom: Would it be possible to add Signature Spoofing/MicroG support? That would be the cherry on the cake 🍰

The phone that never dies, gets a new Android version yet again.

Samsung only gave it Android 4. Lineage gives it Android 11. A whopping amount of 7 newer versions than the last official one it came with. This time I can present a usable build almost 3 months earlier than what was the case with Lineage 17.1.
All major functions should be working, but keep in mind that there's probably some features not yet ported over to Lineage 18.1.

For root, use Magisk (untested on R): https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk

If you are doing backups of 18.1 with TWRP, and wants to restore one of these backups,
you need to flash this right after restoring, or otherwise the boot will hang: http://www.mediafire.com/file/a454nnpp8l7afbr/fix_rootfs_label.zip/file (Needed only for older TWRP, and not for the one linked to below)
