G and E still in 2G category even its 2.5G or 2.75G
u say it change from H/3G to G/E , so it is working

yes that's right. but what i mean is about speed of surfing.. i change 3G network to 2G network, but speed of surfing still same like 3G network. when i see at APN setting, its still using 3G configuration not 2G configuration.. that is bug or i miss something else?

1. Browsing speed depends mainly on:
  • The number of active users in a certain area
  • The operator's servers

Which means that yes, you can have slower or equal browsing speeds in 3G compared to 2G if the 3G network is overloaded in a certain area or time of the day. 3G is not just about speed. It's about the network infrastructure your phone connects to. 3G means 3rd Generation networks. It doesn't have anything to do with the speed. The speed is a consequence of the upgrade, it's not the upgrade itself.

2. The APN settings should be identical, no matter if you're connected to a 3G or 2G network, considering that the network provider is the same.
I've never heard of an operator offering different internet settings for 2G compared to 3G.

If the phone struggles to get 2G network (in case you are in a low coverage area) when it could easily connect to a 3G network (with more coverage), it will consume more battery, even if you're on a 2G network. The best solution for battery is to be in a well covered area (no matter if it's 2G or 3G). It's not a bug.

Anyone knows if the latest cwm recovery (not the one with the new partition layout) will be able to flash the final build ?
if not what version to use ?

so we can say that generally that new versions of recovery do flash the lower android version rom while a old recovery cannot flash a newer version of android right ? (not taking about new partition layout again thats another story)
So as soon as it flashes successfully without any error than it is good ?

Generally speaking yes, but they don't assure the compatibility. I only said you could because I have already done it myself.

Link is down. Could someone post the rom again?

The "not-so-good camera quality as in stock" issue still remains in next CM's or it has been fixed in CM10 or CM12 etc?

Thank you

Hi guys
I got cwm 6.0.5.1 installed and then flashed Cyangenmod 11, but I did not really like it, not smooth enough and draining battery plus, could not move apps to sd card. So I wanted to try C9, but after, When I ask it to install zip C9, it opens the package, and says installing, and then the blue rotating this in the Androids stomac stop turning, and nothing will happen... please help - what am I doing wrong?

I think you have to downgrade your recovery. CM11 and CM9 recoveries are not compatible. Try to "upgrade" your recovery on the first page and then try again.

I figured it out..
when the install freezes, I had to pull out the battery and boot into recovery again and do the install one more time.. worked like a charm..
Only now I have a different problem.. Play store don't work, it just opens and quickly closes.. and under accounts and sync, there is no option to add a google account..
I also tried CM10.2 and CM10 - same problem oh and CM12 - same problem, but in CM12 and 10,2 I got Google Services has stopped, as a pop up, all the time

Any ideas?
Because CM 9 and 10.2 is my fav, I think they run the Galaxy W the best way it's possible :D

After over 3 months of work, 2 hard-bricks (and a few soft-bricks) and a lot of coffee, it's time to release the first alpha version of CM9 for the Samsung Galaxy W (GT-I8150). This is very much still work in progress, but it should be decent enough now that it's usable, if you don't heavily rely on the not working stuff.

For general discussions, bug reports and FAQ, go here.

    What's working:
    Audio
    Receiving and making calls
    GPS
    Compass
    Proximity sensor
    Wifi
    Bluetooth
    USB mass storage
    HW accelerated gui
    HW accelerated video
    Camera
    Torch
    Wifi and USB tethering

Before you install CM9: Preparation (First three are optional. If you want to start fresh, these can be skipped)

    1. Install AppBak from Market, run it and save a list of all your apps.
    2. Install SMS Backup and Restore from Market, run it and backup your SMS history.
    3. Install Call Logs Backup and Restore from Market, run it and backup your call log history.
    4. Boot into CWM5 recovery. Make a full backup. You will need this backup later if you decide to go back to your previous ROM and data.
WARNING: Many apps will Force Close crash if you restore data from a previous ROM.

    Install

    1. Use CWM5 or CWM6.
      • Warning: Only use this recovery to flash CM9. Otherwise, you risk bricking your phone!
    2. Wipe data and cache.
    3. Flash update*.zip.
    4. Flash gapps*.zip. You must flash gapps after every upgrade to CM9 since /system is formatted, wiping your previous add-ons.
    5. Reboot phone.
    6. After you setup your Google account, reinstall the three apps from Market in order to restore most of your apps, call log and SMS history.
    7. Warning: Do not restore backup data of system apps!
      • If you restore a bad backup with cached settings in telephony.db in data/data/com.*.*.telephony it can break MMS.
      • It seems that restoring backups can also break Calendar sync.
    Upgrades
Upgrades from previous versions of CM9 are the same process as install, except you do not need to wipe anything. Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to even wipe cache and dalvik-cache when upgrading between CM9 versions. You only need to wipe if you are doing a major upgrade, switching to a different ROM entirely, or attempting to fix bugs caused by bad backups or corrupt app data.

NB: Going from a ROM using 2.6 kernel to a 3.0 kernel, a full wipe is recommended though.

    fm radio

    • there's no fm radio support in cm9, period! It's not possible to add this when there's no support for it! So stop asking for it!
    camera

    • camera will never work as good as in stock rom, period! We are using ugly hal wrapper hack to get it to work at all! This is only guaranteed to work partially ok with included camera app. And still not everything will work at all with it, like certain effects or video calls. All other 3rd party camera apps may or may not work. Don't cry if they don't. If you absolutely need a 100% working camera, use stock rom!
