The EOS gapps have cut out everything available on the play store giving them a much smaller footprint./QUOTE]

They also moved the data files for offline speech recognition to /data/eos-srec. That saves 33 MB or so right there.
The use of symlinks is a great way to safely move large items out of the system partition.
A new version of EOS gapps will soon be released.

Yes, that was a clever idea.

I made another change as well in my personal version. Made the face unlock and srec optional since I never use either of them. I added some checks to the install-optional script that looks for files like /sdcard/.gapps/no-faceunlock. If the file exists it skips that item. Also removed the srec files from the main backup script as there is no need to back them up if they are on /data.

thanks for the updates Zig and trust me man, take the weekend off, we will be fine :)

and not to get too off topic regarding symlinks and the /system partition size, but since this is linux, can we not resize that partition and make it whatever we want? or edit fstab and have /system mounted somewhere else?

I'm not too keen on messing with fstab, as that's the kind of thing that could break my Xoom! I can and will look into using symlinks more. Thanks for the info on the EOS gapps.

Lemme jump in here just real quick. Resizing /system is dead and any effort will lead to certain brick. The partition offsets are mapped in the bootloader. And it's a signed Motorola bootloader so we know how that goes. Symlinking and bloat removal is the best way to approach this. Also facelock on Xoom for jb is dead atm too. We need non-neon libs and they just don't exist in the wild, yet. Btw I dig the rescaled recents thumbs. Looks clean :highfive:. Won't troll your thread anymore. Promise, maybe.

thanks for explaining that about /system, makes sense. wish it was as easy as any hard drive/partitioning scheme

Thanks.

You're more than welcome to use the recent thumbs elsewhere or to troll the thread by the way. Here are the commits:

There is a new build up by the way, but not much in the way of custom features. I feel like I've been neglecting this ROM a little, because I'm doing a lot of work on my Nexus 7 kang, playing with my own version of tablet mode on a little tablet which Google wants to be a big phone, and I have also spent some time this week pushing the expanded desktop feature into CyanogenMod. It's there now and should be coming to the official CM10 ROM for the Xoom in the next nightly, and I also had a major breakthrough with my Nexus 7 ROM yesterday, so I am hoping to spend some time giving a little love back to my Xoom this week.

Any suggestions for features you want? I am thinking about digging around in AOKP and seeing if I can pinch any goodies from ROM Control, but I'm also open to any other suggestions.

one suggestion i had and not sure where this comes from, is the menu when rebooting. CM10 makes you select your choice (reboot, recovery, bootloader) and then click OK. there is one out there that has the same menu choices but when you click one it does it, no need to hit OK. not sure if that comes from EOS or CNA or AOKP or if that is something engineered in somewhere

rom control stuff is pretty nice. really anything else you add to this rom is just icing on the cake :)

As requested, today's 20121030 build features a transparent combined nav/system bar. I'll work on making a toggle for the settings menu later in the week :)

now THAT is cool!!! updating now!!!

question - how do you get one row of icons to be close together and then another row to be farther apart?

I use Nova launcher ... the row at the bottom is the dock, and the ones above are on the homescreen. You can play with the number of icons and the spacing to move them relative to each other. I keep five homescreens each with just a few icons and at most one folder, and the dock is visible on each screen. Keeps it simple.
