Hey guys. Been out of the flashing scene for a while but it's time. My concerns are A) I'm out of practice, and B) I'm coming from such an older ROM. After doing a bunch of reading, I'm leaning towards this ROM (LiquidSmooth).

I'm currently on a 4.2.2 custom ROM with a CWM 6.0.1.2 recovery. I understand I need a minimum of CWM 6.0.4.3 to flash LiquidSmooth. I also understand that I can get the newer CWM by flashing Shift kernel as apparently it'll update the recovery as well. What I am not clear on is whether I can just go ahead and install the current Shift kernel into the 4.2.2 ROM I have now. And if I cannot install the latest Shift kernel, what version of Shift I need to use for an Android 4.2.2 ROM (I see a lot of older versions available).

To get the proper Gapps after flashing the ROM, I assume I can grab it here?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942

Some initial guidance in this as it applies to my situation would be greatly appreciated. I really need to not fsck this up. Thanks! :)

After you flash the kernel just immediately reboot into recovery then flash your ROM and gapps

You didn't say which rom you're running now. If it's cm 10.1 then shift JB kernel SHOULD work as a running kernel on that rom. Other's just do what's mentioned in the previous post

I'm on the old Task AOKP ROM. Ancient, I know.

I'm comfortable doing what David suggested. In fact, as soon as he said it I had a deja-vu moment as I recall having to do the same thing at least once long ago. :)

I downloaded the "Shift-ETERNAL" edition of the kernel as that's the latest (11/1/2014). If I need to use an older one, just let me know. Just trying to get all my ducks in-order ahead of time. Thanks!

1) Flash Shift

2) Reboot recovery (should be Philz Touch)

3) Wipe Data/Factory Reset .. Wipe cache and dalvik.

4) Flash LiquidSmooth

5) Flash Gapps

6) Flash Shift again

7) Wipe Dalvik

8) Reboot system and enjoy!

It should be that easy. :)

Ah, I see now (CM12 forks). Fewer seem to be forking Omni, but at least theres stuff to compare, and I'm sure I'll find more if I look at the n7000.
@TheGeekyNimrod, isn't myself5 one of the Carbon bringup guys? It'll be interesting to see what he contributes his branch toward.

It's around, just not in the usual places. I'm push my common s2 and i777 when I know it'll build

He is but there's another dude that will be contributing more as well. I haven't been keeping up as much in the last bit. Busy prepping to start school in January and some health related things. I definitely can't wait to get 5.0 rolling for this phone though!

Cm12 777 zipping up fellas lol. I pushed initial sources but they need uodated again. @cyril279 is that team have lysergic? That's where I starting looking in i9100 for common tree. I did some things a little different than they did tho. LOTS more work needed but I have a build that JUST completed

@rogersb11 does that mean I can start scouring your repo for updated device tree? :D

Or do you not have it pushed to Github yet?

Your gonna make me regret ordering a new phone this weekend. Its really nice having developers like all the ones who keep this thing alive.

I'm gonna open a thread with Alpha build 1. Works pretty well just to play with. Can't use as phone until I fix baseband but is still fun to play sk thought I'd upload for everyone to try. Plus nobody can text and bother you while using it

Just an update that I had success. Not bad for my first flash in 3+ years. Many thanks to rogersb11, david72262 & TheGeekyNimrod.

Still getting things set up the way I want and learning the new way of things but thorough use of Google is getting me by for the time being. I'll post back if I get totally stumped. :)

Enjoying being back in modern times and on a supported ROM again. Keep up the good work!

Just thought I would update on the progress of LiquidSmooth. The last build I put out, the LS v3.2 Milestone will be the last KitKat based LS build. Development on KitKat has pretty much ceased for the time being it seems, and there's nothing new in the code that really has to be there, or is a required update.

I am currently working on getting LiquidSmooth v4.0 (Android Lollipop) built and running. Many thanks to @rogersb11 for his help with getting our device tree updated and things in place so that this can become a reality. I hope to have an early alpha build out by the weekend or during the weekend. That being said though, don't get TOO excited yet. Even if it's out as an alpha, I don't want to release it until I've played with it extensively myself and made sure that basic things are running and I'm not going to risk anyone bricking because my build is that incomplete.

So that's where LiquidSmooth for the i777/959g stands right now.

I've got more updating to do. Ril needs updated BAD. I've ran 2 newer builds that I didn't release because the freakin reboot upon sleep. It's pissing me off lol. I'll work on it more tomorrow. Don't wanna get burnt before it's ready to be used
