Hi, I was a stock Oxygen OS (3.6.1) user, today I flashed the latest rom of Lineage OS 16.

(Details:

Build: lineage-16.0-20200311-nightly
Gapps: open_gapps-arm64-9.0-pico-20200311
)

The OS is working fine, but whenever I call someone, the screen goes black and nothing works, the call is also not connected, same happens when receiving incoming calls, the caller gets the call ring, but on receiving end the screen just remains unresponsive. The phone only becomes responsive once the call is disconnected (after 40 sec when it automatically disconnects).

I am using JIO sim, and I only see the LTE symbol (no VoLTE symbol). Also, I'm unable to enable Volte provisioned by dialing **#4636#*#*, it is greyed out. I also tried dialing *#800* (oneplus logkit) but nothing happens.

I am new to all this, can someone help me what's wrong? Does Volte even work with LOS 16 on op2 and if it doesn't what's the workaround?

Thanks.

Not sure about the black screen but VOLTE doesn't work on any Pie rom including this one.

No Notification Light for Texts

Hi,

I've been really happy with the performance and stability of this ROM. My only issue is with the notification LED not blinking when receiving text messages. I've read that this is a common problem in Lineage 16 for multiple devices.

I did a bit of research and found a fix from a Lineage dev; I would post the link here but XDA won't let me. The patch is titled "Messaging: And there shall be light (LED)".

I'm wondering if this fix has already been included in the current release and, if not, would it be possible for an end-user such as myself to add it to the ROM running on my phone?

Thanks

It's sad to see there are no more updates for LOS16, even though it's still an officially supported version. I understand updates have been paused because of some kind of hack on LOS servers, but that's a long time ago. Will updates ever be resumed for OP2?

LineageOS 17.1 (Android 10) has been out for a while:

- https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-2/orig-development/rom-lineageos-17-0-t3969619

They always stop creating builds for old Android versions when a new one is ready, so this is nothing new. I guess you can build LineageOS 16 yourself if, for some reason, you don't want to update to Android 10.

I tried upgrading to LOS-17, but had to downgrade because it has no PrivacyGuard, no Expanded Desktop, no CF.Lumen support, which are all features I want to have. Also, Notifications settings are a total mess in Android 10, IMHO.

You are mistaken. Previous version had always been maintained alongside new version until it reached EOL.
For example, fresh LOS-15 builds were offered weekly alongside LOS-16, up until LOS-17 was about to get released (that's when LOS-15 reached EOL and got discontinued).

That is a common practice for many OS's and dates way back to CM for this ROM. This only changed after the aforementioned security breach, since which 16.0 builds just got "frozen", even though LOS-16 is not discontinued (officially).

I stopped actively using this phone a while ago... so I checked the Wayback Machine and it seems that LOS 14 builds stopped after LOS 15 was released. I don't remember what used to happen in the CyanogenMod days, so maybe you're right about that.

I think having both LOS 15 and LOS 16 builds for this phone was an exception, not something for all supported phones. The OnePlus 3 that I used until last year stopped getting new LOS 15 builds as soon LOS 16 was released. The same thing happened with the OnePlus One.

The 16.0 branch is still being updated, but they don't make builds for phones that already have LOS 17.1 (due to lack of resources, I believe). Phones without 17.1 (eg: some of the Asus Zenfone devices) are still getting 16.0 updates.

In any case, if you have a computer, you can create your own builds. I found this guide and it doesn't seem to be that hard to do (make sure you change the branch from 17.1 to 16.0). You need to have a few GB of free space though, everything else (internet and hardware speed) only affects the building time.

Interesting what you did with Wayback Machine! There is a gap of about 7 months though between the two snapshots, but it's possible that you're completely right :)

I also found building instructions for OP2 in the official LOS Wiki. It's good to have multiple reference points when learning something new, so thank you for the link and the explanation! I would like to give this a try. The only issue is that I'm currently using a laptop with just 4GB RAM, so I'm afraid it might take a very long time to complete the build. Do you have any insights on this? (Storage space is not an issue, I have plenty of it).

It's a good point about the time between each snapshot. They match what I remember happening with the builds for my OnePlus 3, though.

From time to time I download some builds and archive them in the Internet Archive... just in case someone needs them in the future. If you look at my pages for the OPO and OP3, I stopped adding builds for the previous LOS version as soon the new one was available because that's what I could fine on the download page. The OP2 was the exception.

In any case, now LOS only builds the latest version available for each device. In the OP2's case, it's LOS 17.1. I think self-building is the way to go if we want to use older Android versions.

I never tried to build a custom ROM, to be honest.

The XDA article talks about 22 minutes, but that's with a very good CPU and 64GB of RAM. I guess you can leave it over night if it takes too long on your system? One alternative would be to use a virtual server on some hosting service and just leave it running until it's done (google cloud has a free tier, not sure if it's enough for this).

Let us know how it goes... this info is always useful for people with older devices. :good:
