Please everyone who updated about Flamefire 20210422 to 20210603 share a short review with the community, thank you.
I've dirty updated over latest 17.1 from modpunk.

On the first boot phone seemed to have gone into a bootloop even though I've wiped cache/dalvik.

Second boot went fine. No obvious problems encountered.

The video recording still doesn't work for me, but I guess my camera hardware is just broken.

Would be interesting to see if there are any changes to GPS performance, which sucked over the last year or so.

Haven't seen this yet. What I know: First boot may take a long time, especially when dalvik is wiped. It is basically compiling all packages. Also battery performance is degraded after (at least) a full night of charging (again optimizations happening)

Could be. I've waited several minutes and tried attaching `adb logcat` to see if I'm looping or not, but that wasn't successful, so I've just rebooted.

UPD: yep, it was a loop caused by EdXposed Magisk module. Switching to LSPosed allowed me to continue to enjoy the bunch of good old hacks.

dirty flashed from Flamefire 20210422 to 20210603. As result lost vibration at all - in incoming calls, messages, silent mode, touch vibrations. :(
Vibration for calls/notifications works for me (dirty flashed as well from 20210422 as mentioned above), but the haptic feedback seems weaker than before. I did not really notice that since I have it on a very low setting anyway.

And you cannot change the vibration intensity in the "Vibration and Haptic Strength" setting, you can only turn it on or off. I cannot tell if this when this was changed or if is a change in the latest version though since I had set this setting quite some time ago and never looked at it after that.

Does anyone know if "Vibration and haptic strength" allows changing the vibration strength on a fresh install?

I clean flashed on one phone and dirty on another. Works ok on both.
Just out of curiosity: how does the "Vibration and haptic strength" setting look on your phones? Does it allow to vary the strength or does only allow "on" and "off" for the different options?

ok, is it possible to revert back to Flamefire 20210422 from 20210603 ? Just dirty flashing with dalvik/cache wipe ?
I don't know for sure, but due to the changes mentioned some pages further up in this thread I would expect a clean install to be required for that.

I upgraded from a Flamefire furnace, thank you for sharing your development ;)
17.1-210422 > 17.1-210603
ga-nano 210424 > 210617
magisk 22.1 > 23.0
The vibration is not gone! This does not vibrate in power save mode, did not change.
There is a huge change that has completely disappeared the Performance Profiles.
This is certainly due to the EAS kernel, whether it is good we will experience it.
Fingerprint is perfect without intervention, even though it was previously modified by me.
Of course, the magisk is essential for complete happiness which hides the open loader.

Yes the performance profiles were an addition by LineageOS. Changing those basically affects the CPU and GPU frequencies. This is now done automatically by the new power manager which reacts on the current task.

What exactly do you need magisk for? This ROM passes CTS test without it :)

hey guys, thanks for this mod.
I just dirty flashed from 17.1 20201217 to Flamefire 17.1 20210603. Only wiped cache/dalvic after installing. (no root mod installed)
Seems to work fine. Vibration, Cam working. Cant say if the gps performance is better now... needs testing outside.
Cheers /Hendrik/

I looked for kernel changes and saw what you wrote there but since you didn't indicate it in the log I didn't know it was already active
Down with the hat You and derfelot put together some very brilliant ruins, of course that modpunk has laid the groundwork.
I'm just amazed and staring and of course thanks for sharing.

Ok got it working and running the new 17.1 for a day now on my phone, have it here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=14943124697586359584

    - June security patches
    - 4.4.272 kernel (thanks to derfelot)
    - Usual modifications to pass SafetyNet w/o Magisk
    - Few fixes related to GApps permissions (maybe)
    - New/Updated APNs (thanks to LOS and linckandrea)

The 18.1 version with the same changes is at: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=14943124697586359658

Again: I only tested the 17.1 build. The 18.1 should work but may bootloop or have other issues.
I recommend (for both builds) that you have flashed TWRP to the recovery partition on the phone and have a working ROM zip on the SD card (e.g. what you currently use) to be able to boot the phone back to recovery and reflash the old ROM in case of bootloops etc.
And as usual: Have your data backed up!

@Flamefire Thank you for all the steps. If you are going to build it, I can wait. You can count me in for testing - nothing good as installing uncertain software over the weekend :D
Yeah gonna do that over the weekend, no matter if the upstream kernel was merged yet or not. I guess after half a year it doesn't really matter if that small part is missing ;)
There is a small chance that a bootloop or similar is happening which likely can be fixed by reverting to the backup. In that case I could take a look at the logcat to see if it is something obvious and easy. But due to the lack of a testing device for 18.1 (can't use mine here) I'm quite limited so it might take a try or 2.

In general for self-compiling: If you aren't at least a bit comfortable with Linux I wouldn't recommend doing that.
And as usual: Always do a full backup of everything before testing such things.

And of course: The HavocOS Android 11 is a good alternative. The maintainer is pretty quick with updates too.

Quick update: First test with new version failed. Got to check if its my new build machine or the new version. So gonna take a bit more time for testing (the 17.1 version. If that works I'll assume the 18.1 does too)

Edit: 17.1 on old build machine works. Investigating differences to new build machine. LOS gets stuck at the SONY logo when build on the new machine from the same sources as being used on the old one. This is annoying especially as I don't have enough space for 18.1 on the old one.
Lessons learned: Have a ROM zip that is working next to the new one on SSD and flash twrp (the 10.1 for 17.1) to the recovery partition so when stuck at the SONY logo you can still boot the recovery (via key combo) and reflash the old ROM

Thanks. Dirty flashed the 17.1 and it seems to work well.

Will try the 18.1 soon. How should I install it? Would dirty flashing it over 17.1 work?

LATER: Happy to report dirty flash of 18.1 worked well. I see no major changes except for stock LOS camera (which, like on most Sony 18.1 ROMs, has a problem with auto exposure). Otherwise, looks very promising.

Still EAS kernel? Is 18.1 also?
    The EAS kernel is awesome!
Yes. Both use the same kernel
