I'm testing the latest version of rom 24 hours ago, wifi ok, audio ok, bluetooth file transfer problem, gps not used, overall the rom is very good, I'm using magisk, thanks to the developers.
ah good to know that I am not the only oneHi, steadfasterX
I am also using SM-T285 as car navigation. I would love to see good GPS-able ROM for this!
Hi, steadfasterX

Hi steadfasterX,
I use the SM-T285 almost daily for various stuff and would love newer builds for this device! Especially, up-to-date security patches.
GPS works on my tab — time taken to get a lock if set to Device only can range from less than one second to about a minute.
Since one minute is too long, I installed UnifiedNlp as a system priv-app and various back-ends from F-Droid. Works great in my experience.
I have previously flashed Open GApps Stock with Jedld's Oct 2018 build — also works great and Google Maps consistently takes less than a second to resolve location if Wi-Fi is on. But I don't want my tablet to query ssl.google-analytics.com every minute so...
For navigation, I use OsmAnd~. Downloaded the map for New Zealand for offline use.
I'm excited! Will be looking forward to the new builds!
Jedld did an awesome job with this tab! Many thanks to him
This may put off some users though as camera does not work fully on the LOS 14.1 builds. Open Camera and video calls on Signal work, but the stock app, even Google Camera and other apps that use the camera (e.g. barcode scanners, FreeOTP) fail. Also, video recording will fail even in Open Camera. Maybe something to do with missing libs or the Camera2 API? Otherwise, the build is as perfect as it gets.
On the other hand, if the goal is simply navigation, then the camera may not be needed, unless one absolutely must navigate while simultaneously using the device as a dashboard camera (e.g. using multi-window)
As for TWRP, I am using the one from Jedld's OmniROM build (title below, can't post links yet sorry). Device decryption works, formats partitions to ext4. Previously used it to flash Open GApps successfully.
================================
OmniROM:
[ROM][UNOFFICIAL][6.0.1][BETA] OmniRom for Galaxy Tab A 7 LTE (SM-T285)
yea I have made a TWRP build here already, just need the tablet here to test it![]()
reg. the cam I will look into that, maybe I can solve it , maybe not
.-
Cool! Would your TWRP build be able to format partitions to F2FS?
maybe in a later build yes. the ROM (kernel and system) must support that as well then so first of all I want a general working release![]()
****.....
the moment when you open the package and find 2 Tablets and both are SM-T280 instead of SM-T285... damn..
tbh I didn't realized it until I flashed TWRP and it didn't booted whatever I tried..
then I realized it shows SM-T280 in download mode.. wth.. and yea I ordered SM-T285..
I hope to get it exchanged asap..
Sorry to hear that. Look out for the presence of an earpiece in the coming tablets (although I find it rather ridiculous to hold up such a big device to your ear)
The seller hopefully will accept back tablets with TWRP installed?
Unless of course you removed TWRP and installed back the original recovery (I couldn't somehow find the original recovery and stock images for this device from the Samsung website)
I still use this device for navigation. Stock 5.1.1is there any interest for newer builds?
I am starting a new personal project to use this TAB as car navigation and so working on LOS 14.1 based on the OP's sources anyways..
so I was wondering if there are still users out there using this good old boy? if so I would make a new thread for this ofc...-
iGO Navigation (main app), TomtTom NDS and Sygic Truck (both for testing)a bit offtopic I know but what app do you prefer for navigation in your country (which one is it)?
I still use this device for navigation. Stock 5.1.1
Would be realy nice to have an newer Android version available...
I am currently downloading the stock ROM from https://sfirmware.com which has pretty fast speed and then will try to set the tablet back to its original state.
JOdin still works great on linux btw..![]()

wow! Thanks jedid!
EDIT 2 amazing...wifi, cellular data for internet, sms, mms, calls all work (and no echo!)
as you wrote...mms (data) and internet (data) work after the 1st reboot
not yet installed gapps
slower than cm13 but an incredible start! (compare with tab s, s2 that even have official marshmallow and even nougat coming or already there for the tab s2 that have all call and data issues...this one is simply a great feat!)
only thing for some reason it will not automatically get the time and day from the cellular network
EDIT 3
a TWRP backup would not restore properly-android.phone.com errors (no root no gapps just basic setup)
strange thing when I flashed gapps (full not pico from Oct for 7.1) had all kinds of google apps force-closes and the network would not connect easily-it did but the errors never ended so I ended up trying to go back to the twrp backup which is when I got the android. phone.com stopped error (repeatedly coming)
am redoing the installation now (maybe was a bad twrp backup cannot know for sure)
thanks jedid...yes lockscreen is odd as it is working fine in your first version of this rom
EDIT I do not use the PIN option always have it on swipe (nothing to hide..lol)
