with speedmod kernel installed (13c 500hz)

1. there are 2 roms here, one miui.us and one xda version by curry/galnet/mambo. which is the official or better version?

2. i always heard that there is spyware in miui cos of its closed source state. so which one is open source, doesn't have spyware, and which should i use?

Miuiandroid.com is official.

This one is outdated.
For the new one you have to Google for Galnet Miui

1. I would be flashing 2.2 fw first!
2. I would be downloading miui build from this site.
3. I would be following steps given on this site.

Is it all okay?
Please reply as this is going to be my first ever flash on sgs! Thank you

What android version are you on? If you are on 2.3 you don't need to flash 2.2 with Odin.
If you are on 2.2, flash 2.3 with Odin, or just the bootloader.
After that just copy paste the package in your sdcard and go into recovery and flash.
I do hope you know how to flash. How you know, this thread is outdated, so 2.2 is not recommended anymore. And while you are at it, try a non galnet miui rom , afaik latest builds are slooow.
And don't go by the number of posts a thread has.
Next time please read at least the last 4 pages, I said this to people a thousand times.
Search is your friend.

I am on 2.3 insanity rom now. I have knowledge of flashing from clockwork recovery.
and I read few posts behind somebody said that this thread is old and new builds are on galnet. I have downloaded that package from galnet. Its stable version. What do you recommend me ?

Then why did you say its your first ever flash on the sgs.
Miui.us is faster, try that. If you read more I am the one that said this is outdated...read man, read.

well it must sound funny!! i wrote the post (and wrote"first flash") and then flashed insanity after that cos it was no odin flash. just update via CWM..

So galnet or no galnet> i want more faster and less battery hungry rom!!

EDIT: Since i am on 2.3 firmware (insanity) can i skip the 2.2 firmware flash? i mean can i just flash the initail kernel and then the miui update.zip??

No need to flash the initial kernel man. That guide is outdated. Just flash galnet directly.
Also, miui is more battery hungry than cm7.

Successfully flashed MIUI.. Pretty amazing!!! But a little slow/laggy as compared to CM7 build (insanity).
any kernel/different build you would like to suggest!!??

and i feel that flashing is more easier on sgs than on my old sg3!!

Try the latest Neo platypus kernel, or fugu, or glitch. All good kernels.
Also, if you are having battery problems try changing modem, I get stock + battery life
