Ok, looks like I stumbled across a fix for this (at least for me), and @timduru , please tell me if this makes sense to you:

I had my governor set to OnDemand. I changed it to Performance, then rebooted, and my wifi has been up for the last 20 minutes with the screen off, while I stream Sirius radio (it was turning off after about 3-4 minutes before, shortly after the screen turned off.)

Tim, does that make sense? Is that the governor you're using?
I simply use the rom defaults myself (interactive)
one thing that performance does is simply to prevent the tablet to deepsleep, so in that aspect since your tablet is not sleeping, yes it makes sense that your wifi is not stopped while sleeping ;)
So if you need it to do so temporarily you can do that,
If it's for streaming radio you might also want to decrease the max freq too, as with performance it will stay at the max freq set, and you most likely don't need that much power for audio streaming.

One thing to remember too is that there's limited doze mode active, so unless you exclude the app and system + settings from it, it'll doze apps after a while when screen off.
Did you try that ?

Thanks Tim. I did not try that, let me give that a shot. I see that audio streaming is working fine now, but the wifi still turns off if nothing else is going on. Maybe that's it.

I also found this, but I don't see a Google Connectivity Service listed in our settings -

I love KatKiss ROM, which works perfectly on the first Asus Transformer 101. Now, it also performed beautifully on my TF 701! :D

My experience with KatsMallow on TF 701 is very smooth so far. But, I like to suggest few features, which is missing comparing to KatsMallow on TF 101. To further tweaking the kernel/io/network, maybe KatKernel could include additional CPU governors, I/O schedulers and TCP Congestion algorithms.

For examples, InteractiveX2 is the most recommended CPU governor for performance. http://androidmodguide.blogspot.com/p/blog-page.html
ZEN is the best IO scheduler for everyday usage. http://androidmodguide.blogspot.com/p/io-schedulers.html
Westwood+ is the most efficient TCP algorithm to date. http://androidmodguide.blogspot.com/p/tcp-algorithms.html

These may squeeze few percent of performance/battery without modifying the source code.

Hi together
I realize, WLAN is very slow, up and down is every 12 mpbs. With cm12.1 was 65 down and 25 up.
Any open issues with WLAN for this Rom version?

forgive the newbie questions here guys, but I'm a bit out of my depth. I have been using Chromi-X until recently, and others before, and am comfortable with flashing new ROMs but I have never had to, and have no idea how to, format to ext3 then back to ext4. I have tried the formatting in TWRP but as with many others here it is not completely formatting data and I have remnants from the KK ROM that of course keep crashing, and the home button in the nav bar is dead for me. I'm assuming this is because I haven't properly wiped the remnants of the previous ROM but I don't know how to do the multiple reformats to ext3 and back. I have been trying to make Google my friend but I remain friendless as I look at the confusing mess of responses. I don't want to experiment randomly and brick the tablet. Can one of you provide some guidance or a link?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide and happy new year to all!

I've been playing around in the ROM, which has worked great so far, except that I've found two quirks so far. One is that whenever I try to add an app that has a screen overlay when I go to the permissions section the app in question doesn't appear on the list of apps that can be turned on or off for this purpose. The app is in the tablet, and accessible to a certain degree, but the screen overlay can't be turned on/off in settings, either when manually going to the app management section or when being auto directed by the newly installed app itself. I tried this with several different apps with the screen overlay trait and had the same quirk with all of them.

The second is that the search function within a couple of apps seems a bit funky or non-responsive. The only one I can point directly to is Showbox. My phone with Marshmallow is able to do the search, but the KatKiss ROM on my tablet cannot. I have unistalled and reinstalled a few times to be sure. Minor issue, and not sure if this affects other apps or not.

I just installed version #33 and generally it seems to work fine, except for Google Play Store: it cannot install or update anything. If I update an app, it downloads the app twice, then says "installing", but it never installs and gives an error: Error code: 963.I first wiped everything before installing.

Anyone has a clue what is wrong here? Already tried several opengapps versions (older ones), but it's all the same.

What ROM did you come from? And you're sure you wiped everything? (In my case, I had to do a factory reset within Cromi-X, then reboot to recovery, do another factory wipe (/data), and I ALSO had to format /system.)

And you're installing in the proper order from post # 1?

Also, are you giving the ROM time to settle after installing? (At least 15-20 minutes.)

I came from some 5.0 ROM. Anyway, I did a factory reset and a manual format of all partitions. I installed the 3 zip files in the correct order, the only thing I didn't do is wait for 15-20 minutes (but I think that's not going to solve this problem).

I installed the micro gapps instead of the pico, but that should be ok I guess?

I use the APP speedtest.net.
User interface is 3rd submenu under device, if you call main settings from this rom
I test my WLAN speed with the App and I have full speed Download and Upload.
Also I test User Interface and everything works fine.
I use the Apex Launcher, maybe you can test it with this Launcher too.

The only thing that is not working for me, is the function "Right click sends back" in Dock options.
